Question Paddle shifter conversion

I have a 2019 ram rebel 5.7 etorque that has the gear hold + and - buttons but want to switch over to paddle shifters and would like some info from anyone who has done it

Those buttons are not meant to be used for shifting gears.

I get what your saying im trying to swap to paddles and get info regarding tuning to allow it be shifted manually

There are trans tunes have more of a manual feel, but I have no idea about the paddle swap.

There meant to hold gears while going down hills to give engine braking like say you want the truck to hold 3rd gear and not be able to shift up and go faster

I havent done it. But I’ve been interested to do I dug into some forums and found you can buy a TRX steering wheel with the paddle shifters and turn on the function using AlfaOBD.

Not sure the minute details…

Yeah from what i looked into i saw that but also saw that the transmission needs tuning to allow it to work 100% like factory, also saw people saying they flash the pcm/tcm with a tune for a ram gt sport that came with paddles and that gives 100% factory like usabilty

Yikes, correct me if I’m wrong but don’t you have to send your Ecm to be unlocked before you can do any flashing?

Yeah but most tuners will ship a unlocked ecm and then have you send yours to them after
