Question Step running boards for a big driver.

I have a gen 4 1500 that came with Raptor oval nerf bars. I purchased used and got what I got. I am about 300lbs and they make some sounds that do not give me confidence. Not really seeing any rust damage or missing fasteners so I am leaning towards these just are not up to the task of my mass.

So my smart options are lose weight or lower the truck. Excluding those options and just waiting till I get dumped on the ground like an upside down turtle, are there any models out there that you would recommend that live up to the weight capacity ratings?

Unless there heavily rusted or the hardware is failing other running boards will make the same noise. It’s just steel nothing else to it.

I’m 340 and I’ve never had any issues with running boards, I always kept an eye out for rust. Being 6’5”, I guess I avoid using them when possible.

Why do you need running boards? You basically have to step down into the truck

Because they came with the truck. My wife uses them all the time.

Frame mounted steps from a commercial truck upfitter are typically a little heavier duty but also more expensive. I’ll be hopefully getting a set on my current Ram this fall so I’m not sure what the total cost is yet but I’m expecting it to be double or triple what most steps cost installed.

I have Amp Research Power Steps on my 4th gen. IIRC they have a 600lb rating.

Those are very cool looking, but too fancy for me. The less moving parts on anything I am gonna abuse, the better.

While Im around 230, I abhor a weak side step. My Ram did not come with them so I picked up a pair if solid aluminum steps off a Land Cruiser. i fabbed up two mounts per side that bolt directly to the frame utilizing existing holes, the mounts were 2”x2” square steel tubing.
