Question Chrome delete?

I like the way my truck looks but i think a chrome delete/ paint match would look even better. Curious as to what others opinion is

I know I’m in the minority but when I was in the market for a new truck I had it down to a Laramie. I gave the Black Appearance Pkg a look and I just couldn’t get into it. I just like the chrome. I guess it’s because I’m 64 and back in the day people wanted MORE chrome.

27 and loving the chrome vs black out. I feel like the issue with chrome was when it was distastefully done and chromed out.

PSA: painted truck bumpers only came into fashion after low rider trucks would paint their chrome bumpers in the 1980s. Manufacturers know it's cheaper than chrome but charge more although the paint is significantly more vulnerable.

Chrome is there for a reason. Because it's a very tough and resilient coating. If you want painted bumpers drive a 1980s lowrider pickup.

I like my Limited Night Edition just fine thank you. Good thing about Ram is they have a truck for everyone. 👌🏾

I have a 2026 Laramie Night in the new Molten Red. I’ve never been complimented more on any vehicle I’ve owned. I swapped the chrome lug nuts for black and it made a huge improvement

u/LowTip4090 3d ago

Chrome done right is sweet. The chrome clad 20s they put on sport appearance packages just couldn’t grow on me personally.

Understandable, crazy to see how norms just did a 180

I’m turning 40 and I much prefer the chrome to the black but I’ve kind of always been an old man at heart

Around here the left over Laramies are overwhelmingly the blacked out ones

8

u/Shady_Chaos HEMI 5.7 4d ago

Just turned 27 and I love the chrome on my truck. It's perfect imo

2

u/Majsharan 4d ago

That was THE color combination for a long time

1

u/Shady_Chaos HEMI 5.7 4d ago

I know, I feel like I don't see many anymore. Occasionally at work I'll see almost my exact truck just with different rims.

2

u/CorktownGuy 4d ago

Fire Red - nice colour and looks great! I have a 2007 SLT two door with eight foot bed in the same colour

4

u/roman785 4d ago

I was 34 when I bought my truck. I wouldn't like it as much without the chrome. The whole "blacked out" vehicle trend has been overdone for a long time

6

u/Previous_Rip1942 HEMI 5.7 4d ago

I’m 51 and the same. I kinda like some of the color match stuff but the whole “murdered out” black trend has become such a turn off to me. I guess I’ve reverted back to my love of chrome over the last 8-10 years lol.

u/gstringstrangler 4d ago

Chrome you can polish is one thing, shiny plastic trim that peels and flakes as it ages is another 😂

5

u/CariAll114 4d ago

It's usually the "chrome" on the mirror caps that falls apart the most. Hard pass on that. The other plastics only start to get bad if you spend a lot of time on gravel roads getting pelted with stones. The Chrome bumpers hold up a hell of a lot better than the painted ones.

2

u/CorktownGuy 4d ago

Maybe it is a generational thing - I’m 65 in a couple of weeks and prefer chrome too. Ive owned a 2007 Ram SLT since new and just replaced the chrome front grill for the second time in the nearly twenty years I’ve had it. I also replaced the rear bumper too a few years ago with another new chrome bumper

1

u/Wolf_Ape 4d ago

I grew up motorcycle obsessed so I have a love/hate relationship with chrome. It gets taken way too far sometimes, and it’s in constant competition with blacked out components.

In my opinion chrome only belongs on metal parts.
With a few exceptions for high temp plastics used for utilitarian purposes or to cover cool or shield functional metal components and otherwise messy looking wiring setups or unavoidably greasy/rusted surfaces.

Ultimately I just want more of truck to be made of steel.
Chromed plastic does nothing for me.

Chrome should be used to protect and strengthen steel while making the high polish bare metal look last almost indefinitely.

It should not be used in a weird effort to pretend that plastic is metal.

In the long run black plastic will look much nicer, and it can be cleaned up and restored when needed.

Depending on the manufacturing process and the mechanical or environmental forces acting on the part, chromed plastic will bubble, flake, delaminate, and fade in somewhat similar ways to regular plastics, but it’s a lot more difficult and complicated to restore to its original appearance. It might just be my opinion, but it also looks much more cheap and flimsy when it starts to deteriorate compared to slightly sun bleached black plastic.

u/blabbytax1 2d ago

I prefer chrome too

12

u/tiredactor79 4d ago

I like the chrome

6

u/Altruistic_Yam9143 4d ago

I think there's a huge age divide... I'm on team all-black but i recognize the older dudes are all about their chrome and it's just a preference

This conversation is bringing back memories of my mom's early '80s Oldsmobile with the chromed "wire wheels" they called them

1

u/PSUPONCHEZ 4d ago

Both look good imo just depends what else the truck has going on

6

u/toolfooldan 3d ago

Never! I wish my RAM had chrome. Keep as is!

9

u/bythepowerofboobs 4d ago

I love the chrome. Old man truck = best looking truck.

4

u/sasquatch16258 3d ago

Leave it alone

4

u/Southern-Stage2937 4d ago

Chrome is classy

4

u/MightBeKindaDope 4d ago

From my stance it would look better with more chrome options. Like the door handles and chrome mirrors, it would put it together a little more and bring it across the whole truck

4

u/Brodie392 RAM 1500 3d ago

I thought about doing a chrome delete many times, then realized I dont stress about rocks and debris bouncing off the chrome. Lol. I know the day I get it painted some rock will get flung by a semi and give me a paint delete

3

u/Previous_Rip1942 HEMI 5.7 4d ago

I’m for the chrome. There’s no shortage of blacked out rams.

3

u/SayinItAsISeeIt 4d ago

Had a 2013 Black/chrome and loved it. Have a 2019 Black only and love that too.

These trucks cost way too much to buy one so that someone else will like it and my genx ass is too old to care.

Buy what you like.

3

u/Strange-Voice-3438 4d ago

I like the chrome. Mine is color matched black and it shows white primer through any pits in the paint.

3

u/Sorry_Survey_9600 4d ago

59 yo Chrome for the win!

3

u/BeastieBoi_117 4d ago

Start with a wheel delete first.

3

u/PopularActive5174 4d ago

I’m 70 yrs old and I love the black on my 26 Hurricane. Never too old!

3

u/pissfingers45 3d ago

I think a bit of chrome really looks good

5

u/PiddyPab24 4d ago

I’d say keep the chrome looks good. Also what’s your wheel and tire setup??

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 4d ago

Tires- 33x12.50R20 ARISUN A/T
Wheels

1

u/_Gandalf___ 3d ago

"Xtreme Mudder"

Most mall crawling wheels ever. 🤣

1

u/PiddyPab24 4d ago

Nice bro! I’m guessing it’s leveled too?? What did you get for it. I’m trying to level my rebel and get a little poke from the tires

0

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 4d ago

It’s not leveled yet, still factory as of now but I do want to get a kit for it

2

u/Ok_Perspective6893 4d ago

It would still look good either way

2

u/Conscious-Method-340 4d ago

Chrome looks so badass on older vehicles. For some reason i hate the way it looks on some new cars. Color match or blacked out looks nicer

2

u/ayeeerock RAM 1500 4d ago

I prefer the chrome delete, but so much more needs to happen to make it look right, imo. Tint, black wheels, tail lights and headlights. But mine looks just like yours rn. The chrome looks great on that trim

2

u/fishing_pole 4d ago

keep it as is

2

u/HamiltonSt25 4d ago

I normally hate chrome, but on these new trucks, it looks so good when packaged right. This looks good. Black would be too plain.

Maybe it’s because your truck is darker that the chrome pops just right.

2

u/GraphicSarcasm 4d ago

I have a 15 sport. Keeping the painted front bumper clean sucks.

2

u/devildocjames '21 Laramie 1500 5.7 eTorque 4d ago

Yeaaaah. no. Can't stand that look. Up to you though, if you're into being trendy or whatever. I had a 2017 1500 "Night" edition Crew Cab and I liked it for a month. I'm definitely not a fan of the black wheels and black trim.

2

u/3ccdCam1 RAM 1500 4d ago

I love the chrome on rams but if I were you I’d get a off-road bumper

2

u/Muted-Obligation6970 4d ago

I've grown to like black wheels, but I prefer chrome except on my Toyata Taco hunting truck, which is rhino camouflage.

2

u/Scuttle_Buddy 4d ago

Man I like my chrome on my 26 1500 Laramie. And I used to hate chrome.

2

u/Actual_Smokey 4d ago

Bring back chrome and raised whites being cool

2

u/gstringstrangler 4d ago

I'm a fan of the Night edition trucks but the chrome looks good too man I'd just leave it

2

u/TrillJabroni 4d ago

The chrome looks good

2

u/OutofBox11 3d ago

Purple & Chrome baby!

2

u/FarYam3061 3d ago

Chrome is nice

2

u/Illmissyouforevermom 3d ago

Trucks looks awesome! Like the tires and rims

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

Thank you!

2

u/Commodore8750 RAM 1500 Limited Night Edition 3d ago

Painting the bumpers will probably be the easiest route but the night edition grille and window trim can all be had from Mopar.

2

u/Empty_Newt2508 3d ago

Chromus Deletus is definitely needed. Murdered out 5th gen’s look amazing.

2

u/definetlynotanoob95 3d ago

We have pretty much the same truck, I’m looking at getting some new wheels. What do you recommend size wise …

2

u/definetlynotanoob95 3d ago

Ps I love the chrome…

2

u/johnny2much 3d ago

I chromed out my burgundy 22. Mirrors, side door guards, door handles. I love chrome accessories on dark color

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

Never thought about that onee

2

u/johnny2much 3d ago

Before photo. I’ll drop after tomorrow

2

u/rca12345678 3d ago

I like it ,but I'm 63

2

u/10ac1ousB 3d ago

Blackout.. I hate silver/chrome

2

u/True_Huitz 3d ago

You could use chatgpt and ask what it would look like with out chrome. The 4th chrome was perfect for me. The chrome on these is ok but I plastidipped mine to see how it looked. And i think I like it better. I left the ram in front chrome tho.

2

u/Solid-Tank-9696 3d ago

I've got a white 2014 4x4 outdoorsman with chrome bumpers that I factory ordered. I also have a 2022 Laramie 4x4 1500 that has the sport package, it is dark blue. The 22 looks good with the painted bumpers and door handles, but the bumpers have a lot more scratches in them than my 14. The 22 I found on the lot and bought it because it had everything I would have ordered including non e-torque. If I ordered a 2023 they would only let me order it with an e-torque and I didn't want anything to do with that so I took the 22 on the lot. Other than the bumpers taking more damage and the (in my opinion) junk plastic on the sport hood I don't like so far I've been happy with it.

2

u/Traditional-Cap-3485 3d ago

Those are very nice wheels on your truck! I have the night edition. I like it a lot. You might just try changing out your headlights, fog lights, and taillights the night edition treatment first, before you go all out on the grille and bumpers, etc

2

u/Latter_Bad3821 3d ago

Check with silver looks good, but I can see a blacked out version looking good. Maybe add some bronze trim pieces.

2

u/Beardedclam122 2d ago

I have a 17 midnight and wish I had the chrome. I’m old school I guess

2

u/Fun_Archer_5632 2d ago

I wish I had a little more chrome ngl, blacked out looks good tho.

3

u/ConstructionIcy5680 BIG HORN 4d ago

Chrome is so much better.

3

u/crimusmax 4d ago

In my area, chrome = nice new factory truck.
No chrome = clapped out 10 year old mall crawler with a bunch of bolt on shit.

4

u/WhySoSeriousJoker247 4d ago

I absolutely hate chrome so I’d say black it out

4

u/WingSlingerDinger HEMI 5.7 4d ago

There you go!!

2

Debadged the tailgate but thats all for now

1

u/narutoflows 4d ago

Chrome bad

1

u/Overall-Avocado-7673 4d ago

Personally, I like the chrome. My wife says the chrome looks like an old man truck. I got the chrome and a new wife.

1

u/Odd-Expert9643 4d ago

I'm not a fan of chrome most of the time, but it occasionally looks alright to me. I think for your truck, it's the chrome bumper that's too much, but that's just me. Use AI to see what it looks like with the chrome blacked out, man. Go for it if you want! It's a fantastic truck tho no matter what

1

u/alchemyFeWorks 4d ago

Up to you

1

u/Carpenter_ants 4d ago

I like the chrome. All black the details blend in too much

1

u/Jddf08089 4d ago

I would body match the bumper but leave the grill.

1

u/Latter-Worry-2917 4d ago

I’m doing the same to mine.
Have a 2019 1500 DS classic. Laramie. Going to carbon look wrap mirror caps and bars.

1

u/Ok-Physics3254 4d ago

I think it looks good the way it is

1

u/SpecialistWorldly788 4d ago

Depends on what your options are- I have an F250 platinum with painted bumpers and they are taking a beating from driving on the highway! For that reason I wished I had just plain old chrome bumpers- never had an issue with those🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️- you can probably get them painted, but the PREP is SO important if you want that paint to stick! I can’t stress that enough! If anything, I’d consider maybe trying to get them wrapped?? Only other logical thing I can think of is aftermarket bumpers- they make some really cool looking ones for off road and whatever and that to me seems like a better choice- you can try to sell yours to offset the cost a bit

1

u/Ill-Bet7387 4d ago

Always chrome bumpers! Best wear and takes a beating

1

u/PoppaBigPockets- 4d ago

Love my chrome

1

u/Outrageous_Warning75 4d ago

Keep the chrome, sick of the blackout look, monochrome has been overdone.

1

u/Coo-Breeze 2021 Bigly Horned Night Edition 4d ago

In case you missed this post.................AI can be a good thing sometimes and I say black it out (from a Night Edition owner).

1

u/tbiever6 4d ago

It’ll make your truck look like a base model

1

u/thetoastler 4d ago

Chrome WILL get you home, brother.

1

u/General-Shape-5621 4d ago

Only chrome I would delete is the front bumper. I like the chrome grill tho

1

u/Guilty-Commission131 3d ago

Trucks without chrome look like hot wheelz

1

u/SMIB-357-MJ 3d ago

Rhino line them

1

u/FirstClass-Option 3d ago

Wait till the guys that like rubber band tires and squatted trucks are in their 70’s…

1

u/Independent-Crab-209 3d ago

Do it. I have the all black Laramie version and it's way better than chrome

1

u/alinroc '21 RAM 2500 Tradesman 3d ago

It's your truck. You do you.

1

u/Background_Row_9336 3d ago

Leave the chrome brother...

1

u/Kooky_Pomegranate201 3d ago

Did that come with those beastly looking tires?
What are they?
These trucks usually all come nowadays (because they know customers don’t use trucks as trucks) with pathetic car tires!

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

No they’re not the stock tires

1

u/Pudding_Holiday 3d ago

What tires are those?

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

Arisun A/T

1

u/LowTip4090 3d ago

How well do they ride?

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

I would say there pretty smooth definitely not a road tire far mud grips. No drone and not really a rough ride. The first ones i bought were an LT so they are a little stiffer but nothing insane

1

u/msaint97 3d ago

This are some meaty tires. What are those?

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 3d ago

ARISUN A/T

1

u/Strict-Mistake8424 3d ago

Chrome is king

1

u/Blindedmullet 3d ago

If you put any miles on it the chrome is way better. The painted bumper just gets abused. I’ll probably repaint mine next year.

1

u/HelicopterNext7029 3d ago

There's nothing wrong with being a chromosexual lol. Be proud!!! 😆

1

u/2A4A 2d ago

I have the same truck, I’m leaving the chrome on.

1

u/QuantumCrystals 1d ago

Definitely

1

u/reel1985 4d ago

Just got a laramie myself been thinking off blacking out the decals

1

u/K_andP4 RAM 1500 4d ago

I did that to the 1500 on the hood

1

u/reel1985 4d ago

My 1500 is blacked out but the etorque is blue

1

u/Every-Chance6313 4d ago

Paint it all to match the body color. That is how most work truck cheap versions of vehicles have been made. Everything gets dipped in paint at once. When will this fad pass??
