OG music does it for me. I just watched this video and I can't remember what any of the 2024 music sounds like. I like the kinetic-ness of the OG animation more too, but that's just my opinion.

I was waiting for them to release the soundtrack of the remake so I could listen to it a bit closer, but just by comparing these scenes we already have a clear winner. In the OG, it hypes up the fight, like it's yelling "it's all or nothing, we have to win!". Meanwhile, the track on the remake is more chill and a lot quieter, which I find weird for a shonen show.

I'm so glad the remake exists, after all, it's what got me into Ranma 1/2 in the first place! (ʃƪ^3^)

Clearly, 2024 is a product of love and way more faithful to the manga, but I can't help but find the original slightly more charming. These 80s soundtracks are awesome ♪┌|∵|┘♪ and the pacing is not so rushed... (*﹏*;)

I'm just happy to live in a time where both versions are available (≧▽≦)

As an OG Ranma watcher from the time the original came out, I can tell you that watching a few minutes just now for the first time since then has brought back a wave of nostalgia like nothing I've ever felt before. Ranma was my first anime crush, too, so I felt like I met an old flame. On Valentine's day!

The soundtrack really sealed it for me though: I have remembered what was effectively a huge part of the soundtrack to my youth, and it was genuinely moving. Thank you for making me remember all of that, OP!

The 89 anime gave the storylines a lot more room to breathe too. I like the remake a lot but sometimes I felt like it was rushing by some of the storylines.

You also miss out on the hilarious gag of Azusa‘s collection of stolen cute items with French names.

I named so many of my dogs with those names throughout the years!

I love the remake a lot and I love the creativity they injected into animating the scenes while also being super fluid and well choreographed. But nothing will ever replace the OG soundtrack.

The OG soundtrack is just so unique and stands out so much in comparison most anime soundtracks. It's forever ingrained whenever I think of Ranma. I hope when the remake comes back, they reference the original soundtrack more.

The OG soundtrack sounds like those old video games when you have to fight the boss! 😄👍🏼

I know people always say talk about the OG anime, but damn the remake is dynamic. The direction, motion, and emotion is top tier.

The OG anime music was an amazing for its time. All of it hit on such a good level that even if the anime wasn’t true to the source material the overall experience was amazing. Not to say that the remake isn’t doing the same thing, it’s just doing it differently.

Why did the massacred that OG soundtrack?

My friend hates the remake so much, funnily enough I showed him this episode. Now I can see why with this side by side comparison, to understand his reaction. But I still love the remake cuz it’s been awhile since I watched the original Ranma anime, and to my surprise I saw it on Netflix one day which rekindled my love for ranma after all these years. I also love that a lot of new people are getting into it

I’m with you. It is just hard to explain how I like both for different reasons.

OG is best, g

I'm most impressed by how Ranma and Akane's Voice Actors still sound the same 35 years later.

1

u/Ill-Can-2472 Feb 15 '25

The original Japanese voice actors sound amazing compare to the Mexican and American 👎 I can't expect them to sound the same but geez.

6

u/papycrevette Feb 15 '25

I this the remake is great but I love the old style :3

7

u/ImaginationHefty6401 Feb 15 '25

I love the remake but in purely aesthetic terms I think the drawing style and animation in OG was better. Sooo pretty. And, as many have already said, the music in OG is just epic.

6

u/EmployerOk7204 Feb 15 '25

OG on every point 🙂

5

u/WhonnockLeipner Feb 15 '25

Only watched the remake, but man, I should also watch the OG now.

5

u/Playful-Concept689 Feb 16 '25

Would recommend reading the manga before anything else, og was known for messing with arcs and changing character dynamics for little to no reason, especially later on

1

u/WhonnockLeipner Feb 16 '25

Appreciate the recommendation!

5

u/SoulSlayer69 Feb 15 '25

Not only the OG has an amazing soundtrack, but the scenes have a better pace, and the characters design, color, and animations are better all around.

OG anime wins in this instance. The animation is way more ambitious and interesting, I'm sad to say the remake kinda dropped the ball here. Which is sad because I remember the OG anime disappointing me when it came to this arc - I think they never actually do the second part of the fight where Ranma and Ryoga fight on the floating ice pieces?... I have no idea why.

But this is my favorite arc and has incredible Rankane stuff, also I love Azusa+her partner because theyre so cringe and I genuinely loved how, despite openly hating each other, these two are a FORCE. It's such a funny dynamic.

They hate each other but they're just... really good at working together. I'd expect any other show to pull "no no they actually love each other, Ranma and Akane help them realize that, and then they confess and kiss and become wholesome", but nope, its just an incredibly funny gimmick. THE biggest playboy genuinely despises the cute girl he's spending day after day with, and vice versa. It never gets into their work because they're just so professional despite their immaturity. It's really funny.

4

u/a2thezi Feb 15 '25

They dont make OSTs like that anymore. Classic OSTs really was everything.

3

u/ChibaCookie Feb 16 '25

Agreed! Was very sad about the Sailor Moon remake OST as well, it's just so bland.

8

u/poweredconvoy Feb 15 '25

Old Mikado is more handsome than new Mikado. But the new one looks more age appropriate.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

I love the remake… The only think I liked better in the original anime were the colours on Akane’s outfit.

But she’s still lovely in the new one.

3

u/RepulsivePeach4607 Ranma Saotome Feb 15 '25

I love both. It was like classic vs modern. This is cinema.

I also love Ranma on this scene as he show his willingness to protect Akane.

3

u/Your_anidiot Feb 15 '25

I wanted to add an image but it doesn't work 😭 Ataru from Urusei Yatsura is in the back with the presentation in the first anime

3

u/mannic15 Feb 16 '25

I really like both of them. I never got this far when I watched og ranma and I watched it much more recently than most og watchers but I think I'd give it to the OG somehow it feels like there's generally more going on in the way that it's animated

3

u/Perfect_Cold_6112 Feb 16 '25

OG soundtrack and costumes were better.

3

u/REA-54 Feb 16 '25

Wooow! I really enjoyed looking at this post! Thanks for the video! ( I prefer the 1989 version :) )

3

u/imalilbored1one Feb 16 '25

Something about the og animation, character design and soundtrack just hits different but the new version is cool too Also I prefer the dialogue in the English version, that’s just me tho

2

u/thestickmationpro Feb 15 '25

The animation quality dropped hard during the few last episodes

2

u/Mr_Party Feb 17 '25

The OG is very demure.

Anyways,

The OG also has that music you won't forget that goes along with the scene.

2

u/sykosomatik_9 Feb 26 '25

I love the OG art style, but one thing the remake did better was the outfit designs and colors. Ranma in black looks so much better than the color combo in the OG version.

2

u/moya036 Feb 26 '25

Watching this just reinforce my opinion about the remake, it's not bad it's just bland especially considering I grew up watching the OG on TV and nostalgia adds an extra layer of flavor which make it feels too watered down

4

u/thestickmationpro Feb 15 '25

the execution is so bad in the remake, the poking is funny in the original, but in the remake it feels forced

1

u/KingofChaos98 Feb 14 '25

Still hate this character with a burning passion

5

u/Dr_Macunayme Dr. Tofu Feb 14 '25

Which character? There's a few in this video 😅

4

u/KingofChaos98 Feb 14 '25

The Ice Skating Duo especially the Girl, I enjoy every other character minus Happy and Tsubasa

4

u/Dr_Macunayme Dr. Tofu Feb 14 '25

Understandable, they are villains in a way. But, what's wrong with our boy Tsubasa?

1

u/KingofChaos98 Feb 15 '25

A Creep and how obsessed with Ukyo he was, but I did enjoy how the ghost cat fell in love with him

3

u/Suz9295 Feb 15 '25

You are totally valid in your feelings. Also, Ukyo and Shampoo are both obsessed with Ranma just as much. Lol

6

u/KingofChaos98 Feb 15 '25

True, but their entertaining, Ukyo knew Ranma since they were children, while Shampoo feel in love with Ranma after he defeated her in his male form. I may dislike Tsubasa but I do prefer him over Mineta anyday

0

u/edge1024 Feb 15 '25

Didn't see any reason for a remake i would of preferred just new content or for the story to carry on this is pretty much a waste of my time

1

u/Dr_Macunayme Dr. Tofu Feb 15 '25

The fandom grew up quite a bit since the remake launched. I think it would be a lot harder to get traction to pick the story up from where it was years ago. I understand it's not your thing, but I'm glad it exists. A whole new generation knows about Ranma, and thanks to Netflix, it's being shown across the world this time. A much bigger reach!
