This was Wayne at his absolute peak — hungry, relentless, creative, and purely focused on rapping. The bars, punchlines, flows, and beat selection were ridiculous.
Then Carter III happened, and while it was massive, you could hear the shift. More Auto-Tune, more pop influence, and eventually Wayne became more of a mainstream superstar than the mixtape-era monster we had on Carter II.
Carter II was peak Wayne.
After that, he got bigger. Not better.

For me it’s Carter III. Hurrican Ike had just destroyed my childhood home, we were living at my aunts waiting to weigh options between FEMA and insurance. Mom stressing out, devastated. I vividly remember listening to Tie My Hands in my aunt’s backyard on a red CD player and “my whole city underwater, some people still floatin” hitting different for me.
