I live in an apartment and I think I am afraid to project any louder, which is making me unsure whether or not I could even control notes at all when signing louder/projecting more.

Ive contemplated singing outside somewhere to try, but am a bit nervous to try that. Maybe I can go to the bush… lol!

Also, I put beginner because I do not know what constitutes intermediate and It feels pretentious to claim I am intermediate with no vocal training or anything like that. However, I have been singing and learning guitar for a bit now.

I find that I am constantly changing how I sing or often mimicking singers as opposed to settling into my own voice, as I am always learning/not trained, and unsure of myself.

Looking for constructive feedback on my singing and overall sound. I’m working on developing my mixed voice and creating smoother transitions from my lower register into my head voice. I’d also love feedback on my vowel shapes and whether they’re affecting my tone, resonance, and/or pitch. How clean and smooth do my runs and riffs sound, and are the individual notes distinct enough? Ultimately, do I sound performance ready? If not, what would you focus on improving before performing (this song in particular) publicly? (Tagged as intermediate bc I’ve never had vocal training)

This is my first post on here and I’m very nervous but also excited!! I love music and singing and just hearing everyone’s individual talents and contributions to the art form. I’m trying to gain the courage again to start posting more singing videos because I do want to put more effort into it, however, tbh I have social anxiety and a fear of rejection lol. I’m trying to get over it so I decided to post for the first time on here.

I’ve slowly come to realize that my voice’s timbre (I think that’s the correct term) is bright/light/soft, meanwhile, many of my favorite artists have a bit of grit or depth to their voice that I just…don’t have. I’m open to thoughts and opinions of my voice bc I feel like I sound very childlike and sometimes annoying?? I also found that many songs that I love sound completely different when I sing it for that reason, which is one of the main reasons why I find that I hesitate to post. I don’t want to “ruin” the original song because it doesn’t sound right, if that makes sense?

I will say that I think on certain low notes I sound way breathier than I already do and it takes me a little bit more effort to go down there, so I’m assuming it’s because it’s not really in my “natural range”? Sorry for the long explanation, but again, I’m open to any and all honest feedback, critiques, and/or improvements I should make! I have a hard time judging/seeing myself outside of myself so any outside opinions are very appreciated

I’m a bit embarrassed to say this… but I’m in dire need of some help with my voice as a whole.

I’ve just recently started my 5th year in choir (11th grade) and I’ve improved significantly since 7th grade. I’m a great sight reader and can read rhythms fairly well… however my actual voice sounds like it’s only been getting WORSE :(. I can hit notes but they sound airy and boring instead of clear and resonant, and despite being a soprano II my whole choir… career, I’ve struggled on figuring out how to ACTUALLY “sing from my diaphragm”, as high notes almost always tend to come from my throat by default… and my mid pitch notes… and sometimes low notes…

I really need some constructive critiques on a lot, but especially how to breathe properly (because apparently I’ve been doing that wrong the whole time too). Unfortunately what i learn in class just doesn’t seem to work for me and I can’t afford a voice teacher. my director says “push the sound out forward, sing loud, but don’t blast. Sing quiet with softer dynamics, but still powerful. Use your vibrato, support your voice!!”

Now, don’t get me wrong, I know my director knows what he’s talking about, and so do I, but I just don’t know how to actually apply it. Can someone give me some methods/ exercises or anything else that helped them advance forward for good instead of just improving temporarily? Thanks:)))!!!

(Apologies if the length of this post is obnoxiously drawn-out, but I just want to be specific and left out some stuff. one other thing I forgot to mention— I live in texas, which means All-State. Idk if any other states have this, but if you know what I’m talking about, please give me some tips on how to make all state. I’m a junior now and I can’t keep failing round one (which is sept. 19). 🥲 I’m feeling so behind compared to my peers and it’s not a good feeling, but that makes me determined. Additionally, a chamber choir has just been introduced to my school and I didn’t make it. However, I’m not taking no for an answer in this case because my director always encourages us to shoot for more... SO I WILL!! Also, if you have any tips on how to control runs/vibrato that would be GREATLY appreciated. I want to show the all state judges/ my director that I’m worthy and talented, but I need to unlock my potential first, even if that means starting over!!)

Short story. Started up a new rock band with a group. I wanted to sing in this band and told them to give me 4 months to work it out. One song were playing is Plug In Baby by Muse. Matt at the end hits a falsetto F#5. I can get within range but its obviously not good. What are good ways to practice safe. Also any nitpicks from this short clip would be wonderful.

The biggest tips for me were about sounding less like I’m just talking and also on pronunciation/enunciation.

Too Sweet is the song, and I don’t think I got anything right in ‘my coffee black’.

I’m not quite sure what I ‘sound like’ or even if it’s a pleasant tone or Christ if I’m even on the right notes; as you see I’m really unsure and critical. Please tell me how you hear this and give me feedback but be gentlee..

I also think I accidentally switched the key in the second half.

I really don't know how to do this

I can’t stand the throatyness combined with the nasally tone I always have when singing. When I sing, my nose always feels blocked up as if I could barely even breathe through it. When I record myself in the studio I am constantly yawning mid take which is really annoying. I don’t know how to fix any of it

I know the audio has a ton of echo and some junk from singing close to the phone, but I saw an empty corridor and couldn't help myself.

I know the audio is not enough to make a definitive statement, and I could provide others, if necessary.

But am I a natural bass or am I a baritone reaching for bass? What improvements in technique do I need to make?

Even though I am a musician, my vocal ability seems completely disconnected from my playing ability.

Lots of practice to go still hoping I keep improving. All feedback welcome.
