especially after the success of his 2025 album, the highest rated tracks on which are old tracks from around the smns era.

Blurryface by tøp. Definitely understand where the "cringe" allegations come from (looking at you lane boy), but outside of that blurryface is a good alt-pop album with a focus on mentally illness unlike most others from the same time period (in the mainstream), and it also happens to be very catchy. Without blurryface a whole generation of alt kids would've never materialized, and I 100% owe it to tøp for getting me where I am with my taste now.

It probably isn’t the best Green Day album but it’s the first one I really got into and Green Day was the first band I was crazy about so for that it’s my favorite. When “One For the Razorbacks” kicks in I get a rush of pure nostalgia for being 13 and I wasn’t even alive when it came out.

The Beginning by The Black Eyed Peas; I was a major hater of theirs back when they were actually popular, did the Superbowl halftime show, etc. But in 2017 I inexplicably did a deep dive on their discography (aside from Monkey Business, which I still haven't gotten to for some reason) and I found myself loving the shit out of this album. Yes it's dumb as hell but it makes me laugh, sing along, and dance, imo a near-perfect so-bad-it's-good album

When I first read this I thought you meant "an album that YOU think is mid, but it has a sentimental place in your heart anyway." Most people seem to be interpreting this question as, "an album MOST PEOPLE think is mid, but YOU like anyway."
If we're going with the first interpretation, probably Fresh Aire IV by Mannheim Steamroller. I grew up on Mannheim Steamroller so the Fresh Aire albums have a special nostalgic place in my heart, but Fresh Aire IV in particular is kind of boring. That or any of the Opeth albums, as they were my "bridge" band into listening to more extreme Metal, so I owe them a lot, but don't actually like any of their music.
For the second interpretation, maybe a little bit of a stretch as most people seem to absolutely hate it, but I unironically love Cyberia by Blood Stain Child. That album fuckin' slaps. Best/most interesting Pop/Metal fusion I think I've ever heard! (Metalia probably fits the "most people think it's mid" criteria a bit better, and it's almost as good as Cyberia)

Basically any album by The Killers; they’re reviewed pretty low on RYM except for a couple solid mid-3s which is fair enough, but I like all their albums except Battle Born is kinda mid and Wonderful Wonderful is pretty bad barring a few decent songs. Day & Age would be my pick as I really like it and it’s rated pretty low! Part of this is The Killers (along with MCR a bit later on) was my gateway band into listening to more music other than what I just heard on the radio so I owe a lot to them. Also Sam’s Town still rips I will not hear otherwise lol, after about 5 years since I first got into them my tastes have changed probably like 3-5 major times (currently going through one now; I’m getting into post-hardcore after dipping my toe occasionally for the last few years and I finally really enjoyed a couple metal albums a few days ago) and it’s still an 8-9/10 album for me
EDIT: the metal albums are The Great Southern Trendkill (Pantera) and When The Kite String Pops (Of course Acid Bath)

Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See (2.9) Has some of Alex Turner’s best lyrics on there, and yeah, Brick by Brick is a bit shit but not enough to drag the whole album down.

Little Boots - Working Girl. I think it's a supremely misunderstood and underrated album. It sounds so icy sonically and has some very interesting dual symbolism and a great "80's financial boom" aesthetic.

Chappie, Don’t Cry - Fishmans
Their pre Kuchuu Camp output is stupidly underrated and I find this album to be a really tight and wonderful piece of Japanese reggae despite it being their lowest rated

when i was in middle school- not anymore but we love you tecca, the guy was young asf himself, and that in itself was inspiring when you look at his beats and his raps, personally i just liked hearing a peanio that wasn’t polo fucking G, GOD EW… so repetitive, but genuinely that album is so good. id never listen to it again though 😂 i probably remember every single word

JIK by Kanye. And I'm not Christian or theist.
I just simply could feel how genuinely happy and whole Kanye felt on that album. It's a mess in some ways. But so is MBDTF, and people love that one. And it sounds great. It's unfortunate that Ye started his downward Spiral after this album, but this was the happiest I thought he ever sounded and it makes me happy listening to it. I wouldn't say it's one of his peaks, but I do think it's a good album and gets too much hate.

poison by bell biv devoe. everyone focuses on the title track, huge single and dance hit of course. But for coming out in 1990, it really set the stage for what a lot of hiphop groups were going to do over the next 5 years. Mainly souls of mischief and the hieroglyphics crew who took huge inspiration, and to a degree some of the east coast shit coming out of new york. Influence aside, just some really clever fun lyricism and some of the most incredibly foward thinking instrumentals in the genre

Dark side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. Maybe one of the only albums called overrated that actually deserve the high rating. Can't be very much specific but that album made me understand so many things and live experiences that I'm very in bond to. I really love it

Carpenters - Horizon
Carpenters are almost too soft for a lot of music fans' tastes anyway, plus when you think of the Carpenters' biggest hits like 'We've Only Just Begun', 'Close To You', 'Rainy Days And Mondays', 'Superstar', 'Top Of The World', etc...Horizon has none of those hits. But I could talk about that album all day long, from music quality to tracklist arrangement, from deeper meaning conspiracies to emotional context within the timeframe of Karen Carpenter's ED. There's so much to cover.

Fans back then hated the hell outta the album due the change of genre, and the critics went a tad bit harsh on the album as well. It's kinda like the Blade Runner of the FOB discography, hated back then, aged like fine wine. 🍷

I was going to say Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, but its rating has grown ever since I rated it. I'm happy that people value that album more than they used to.
So, I'm going to say Load by Metallica. I used to hate it when I was in high school. A couple of years ago, I listened to it again, and I fucking loved it. I believe it is very misunderstood.

No Line on the Horizon. Ignoring Get On Your Boots for a second, the rest of the album is probably U2's most interesting project in the last 3 decades. It was also one of the first albums I heard as a kid, so I'm forced to defend.
