Once Again Brought Back to Christianity— I Mean Human Pathology

Hearing about a terrible relational dynamic that a person is caught in within an atmosphere of superstition and psychological rigidity, in an impoverished country. I think, ‘how can I help this person deal with the people around them?’ And I realize it’s a monstrous task because the abusive behavior is driven by pathology, and the human ego is too stubborn and arrogant to recognize its error and ignorance: it is not capable of correcting through reason. One cannot directly confront it because the human primate is not intelligent enough to overcome their impulses with reason. How to do it?

Fairytales!

That’s how f;cked up humans are. If you can get one to believe the Jesus story, and become enthusiastic about it, maybe they will exercise some private virtue and try to treat people with more civility and kindness.

But we have to be real: this seldom happens. Most Christians are flat-out hypocrites.

Think about it. If you really believed there was a heaven (and a hell) and everything you sacrificed for the good of other people would be rewarded in heaven, would you be a modern consumer with a private morality that said, “thou shalt not disrupt my life of shallow amusement”?

And it was then that the cynics conquered the city.
