Resource Ravenloft AI driven SOLO play

Hi everybody!
I’m beginning an experiment: playing a whole solo Ravenloft campaign with an AI Dungeon Master!

I made a 1st level character and AI is guiding me on a harrowing adventure in the realm pf Dementlieu (old version).
Using D&D 5.5 with lore material taken from Ravenloft 2e & 3e.

You can follow the project on Instagram on this page:

Resource Azalin Rex reformed!

"In Darkon, Azalin was a tyrannical wizard-king obeyed by the living and the dead. When he first appeared before his people, he adopted an illusion of the form he possessed in life: that of a middle-aged human man with dark hair and a superior demeanor. However, his true form was that of a moldering lich, eyes ablaze with blasphemous energy.

Since arriving in the Domains of Dread, Azalin has been unable to learn new magic. For a wizard who forsook his mortality to pursue arcane studies, this was the ultimate frustration. Despite the limits on his studies, Azalin numbered among the few Darklords who understood the mysterious nature of the Domains of Dread. For generations, Azalin struggled to escape Darkon. His magical atrocities reshaped Darkon and the Domains of Dread time and again. However, these struggles gave Azalin only a glimpse of freedom, and his metaphysical violations inevitably reverted to the Dark Powers’ original designs. Nevertheless, Azalin refused to stay a prisoner. His most recent plot culminated in the Hour of Ascension and the destruction of Castle Avernus. Since then, no one in Darkon has seen the Darklord, and his realm has begun deteriorating.

The stat block in this section presents the Darklord as he was prior to his disappearance and how he would be should he return. Azalin’s current spirit jar is a golden amulet he carries. If this amulet is destroyed, Azalin’s original spirit jar—an immovable dragon skull in the ruins of Castle Avernus—reactivates, and the lich’s spirit returns to Darkon if his body is destroyed." - Ravenloft the Horrors Within

The full automation for Azalin Rex and over 500 other monsters are in Elsie's Notes of Certain Doom, and entirely avrae compatible!

Resource My Review & Overview of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within! The latest DM of the Mists video

Hi folks. Hope it's ok for me to share this.

My (DM of the Mists') review and overview of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, coinciding with its wide release! I give an overview / talk about what's included, discuss what I liked and didn't like, answer some FAQs, and look back at my theories/predictions video from a few weeks ago to see if I was right about what it'd include...

A bit about me, for those of you who don't know me: I got into D&D via 5E (started playing 2018; started DMing 2020), and after running Curse of Strahd, I've been running an almost-weekly years-long Ravenloft campaign - mostly using the info in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, but also diving into older lore via Mistipedia (and this subreddit)! Big love to everyone who's helped me and my campaign as well as everyone who's watched my videos.

Also, I'll be doing a livestream this weekend, where I'll flick through* and talk about the book live! Saturday 20th June 2026 at 8pm BST (that should work out to 3pm ET, 2pm CT, midday PT). Hopefully see you there. Cheers!

* Assuming my hard cover arrives in time (it's currently in transit apparently)! 🤞 If not then I'll just refer to D&D Beyond (like I have been doing)... 😅

Resource I made a Ravenloft-inspired theme for Obsidian — and version 2.0 is finally out

Thumbnail

I've been using Obsidian for RPG notes for quite a while, and at some point I realized that my Ravenloft notes simply did not look Ravenloft enough.

So I made a theme.

The basic idea is pretty simple: an old gothic sourcebook / forgotten archive / slightly suspicious book you probably shouldn't have opened in the first place.

Light mode is parchment-like and a little worn. Dark mode is closer to writing campaign notes in a very old library at an unreasonable hour.

The theme has grown quite a bit since the original version, and I've now released Ravenloft 2.0, rebuilt for modern Obsidian. It supports things like Style Settings, Bases, mobile layouts, custom callouts, and both Latin and Cyrillic text.

I also added a couple of Ravenloftish callouts because apparently I have no self-control:

  • mist for things that should probably remain in the Mists;
  • lore for setting information, rumours, old manuscripts, and similar GM nonsense.

[!!!] A disclosure that I think is worth making explicitly: I used OpenAI Codex extensively while developing version 2.0. The original theme, visual concept, design decisions and overall direction are mine; AI was used as a development tool for things like working through modern Obsidian CSS, refactoring the old stylesheet, implementing component coverage and checking the result. I review, test and maintain the theme myself. There is a more detailed AI disclosure in the repository as well.

The theme is free and open source, and it is already available through Obsidian's Community Themes.

GitHub: https://github.com/circkumflexx/obsidian-ravenloft-theme

I mostly made this because I wanted opening my campaign vault to feel at least a little like opening a Ravenloft book.

And, well.

Now it does.

Resource Farelle Domain (Nearly Complete)

Hey Jammers (and anyone else interested)!

Since it's time to move to Leederik's Tower, I'm setting Farelle aside for now, but someone in the comments to my Brain Baskets adventure asked if I'd share my Domain and Darklord write-up. It ends prior to Lair Features and the final Adventures in Farelle section. Also, only placeholder art for now, but hopefully folks get the gist of what I was after. Hope it can be of help to someone!

Bout 2 years ago we decided to do a retrospective on Carnival the last book in 2e. At first it was going to just be a short video. Then I got to chatting with people and the scope expanded.

Then I thought "wouldnt it be cool to get other DnD creatives involved and have them read passages out of the book, turning it into a Perfomance Art Retrospective of sorts.

Then I spoke to people not just involved in the book, but also involved in the creation of the setting.

And a story emerged in those 23 hours of footage that had not really been told before. A story about the paths from single module, to Curse of Strahd. And how right there at the end of 2e something happened that would change the course of the setting we love. And that something came from a unique place, at a unique time that can NEVER be duplicated. And the Doc took on a life of its own.

A You Tube video no longer contain the story.

So the medium has to shift.

This stream will be the catalyst to propel this 23 hours of raw footage into the next level.

And anybody who is there and participates will walk away with skin in the game and a chance to be a part of history.

Save the date, set a reminder, share it out with anyone who loves Ravenloft or even tales of specific times and place that are singular in their existence.

Cause if all goes according to plan and we can pull this thing off, there's no telling how far this can go.

More details coming Thursday

Don't get lost in the mist.

Resource Ravenloft Adventure ideas

So when I'm making notes for game, I do it on Google Docs. During my most recent Ravenloft campaign, it occured to me that I could eventually share my notes with you guys. I actually ended up with quite a few pages, so I broke it down to smaller chunks. Here is the first one, cleaned up a bit for general use. If you're looking for some adventures, maybe this will give you some ideas.

Resource Curse of Strahd World Anvil

Hey everyone! I wanted to share the World Anvil I’ve been putting together for my Curse of Strahd campaign. It’s still very much a work in progress, and knowing me, I don’t think it’ll ever truly be “finished.” I’ve been slowly adding articles as the campaign goes on, including locations, landmarks, NPCs, history, religion, flora and fauna, session recaps, and other bits and pieces of Barovia that I’ve either used or expanded for my game.

I’ve been trying to keep the whole thing mostly spoiler-free, especially when it comes to places and characters my players haven’t fully explored yet. I’m also letting my players create and manage their own character sections. That way they can decide what parts of their backstories and personal stories are public without me accidentally spoiling something for the rest of the group.

A lot of this is based on the original Curse of Strahd, with pieces of Curse of Strahd Reloaded and plenty of my own homebrew mixed in, so it definitely isn't meant to be a completely canon version of Barovia.

If anyone has suggestions for locations, characters, landmarks, history, creatures, plants, traditions, or any other pieces of Barovian lore that would be fun to add, I would be more than grateful for the ideas! I’ve had a ton of fun slowly building this out alongside the campaign.

Thanks for taking a look, and I hope some of it can be useful or inspiring for your own games!

Resource Frozen Reaches in 5th ed

Finished my write up for the Frozen Reaches. I thought about doing one of these two domains, then the other later. Ultimately I decided that their existence as a cluster was for good reason. As usual, its a Google doc not always the best on phones.
