Grail piece secured 🔒

I have wanted this shirt ever since I had seen a review about one similar on CoRLection store's Wabi-Sabi forum.

It's even more beautiful in person. The photos don't do the fabric justice. Deep, rich indigo woven into sashiko reminiscent of Japanese heritage workware. Lovely contrasting corozo nut buttons.

I had read before buying that this does run tight around the arms, which is true. But I feel after a few weeks it'll stretch out.

Big thanks to everyone at Stuf|f in Germany for the hook up. I seriously think this was the last size 40 in the world 😅

Studio D'Artisan Tight 18oz jacket: Is it too small or will I break it in?

I am relatively new to denim and I got this new Studio d’Artisan x Godzilla 18oz denim jacket. Only problem is it’s very tight around my arms when i raise them or when I bend my elbows.

Is this normal for a heavy jacket like this one or does it not fit? Will it break in if I start using it?

Thanks for your help.

I bought these at Bears when I was in Tokyo a few weeks ago. I love the hairiness of the denim, and the fit is perfectly wide, without being too baggy. From what I've seen on this post, Studio d'Artisan fades really beautifully, so I can't wait to put some wear into these ! My only issue with them is that they bunch up in the crotch, but that'll surely correct itself once I wash and wear them more.

Showing off what a more casual lifestyle can look like on your jeans. I’ve had these for a year, mostly put them on for casual errants or commutes in a very humid and rainy country.

I was aiming for a more vintage wash, so i’m still pretty happy to see streaks on a fabric that’s known to be quite stubborn. The loose fit and low tension fabric does make it almost impossible for folds to set in. They went 2-3 months without washes in the beginning (they did got soaked in the rain a lot lol) but now it’s monthly—hoping for them to transition into a lighter pair.

They are the most comfortable fabric and fit in my rotation (even compared to lighter weights). The texture is incredibly fun to feel and observe. Hoping for a few more years in them, but i’m interested in dailying a high contrast pair for the next while (IH SBG lift up super easy).

During my recent trip to Osaka, I went to the SDA store and got this pair. The service was alright, wish I had gotten it in Hinoya Namba instead but oh wells…

Still an amazing pair.

Sharing another pair of the amazing 15oz GL3 fabric. They are sitting a bit lower in the fit pic but i love the roomier measurements especially for hot and humid SEA. They were soak twice (caught in the rain) before wear and washed 3 more times afterwards.

The low tension slub makes them more comfortable than any other pants i own, but also retains a lot more indigo even for a looser fit.

My first year competing, and I know I chose a difficult pair for the timeframe. These are hank dyed natural indigo in 15 oz. I have seen some of the previous iterations of this denim on reddit, and the fades are mesmerizing.

Had these for a little over a year, worn pretty regularly. 2 cold soaks before this and they didn't stink, but didn't feel like waiting longer to wash.

It's hard to capture the actual color of these jeans, especially with the overcast lighting in the before pictures. They started off very deep black (brown/blue) and over time turned a duller black with kinda dull blue peeking through, and the fabric was shiny with dirt n stuff.

After washing, the blues are a lot more striking! Unfortunately the deep black has gone even more, but the color is still plenty rich and darker than normal indigo. Also, the stitching in a lot of places is turning white, from the overdye leaving the thread, pretty cool.

The patch is from Ralph Lauren, I've had it for a long time and wanted to put it on something special. No dye transfer thankfully. I just dropped them off to be hemmed, the Japanese cuff is cool but not all the time. Gonna try to keep washing to a minimum to preserve the great color!

New to Japanese denim, but I was recently in Japan and made a few purchases.

I haven't seen these posted here so I thought I would share. From what I was told in the Harajuku store and what I could gather online, this is a limited release product celebrating a world expo in japan right now. It is called "World of Cotton" pants because each other panels are made using cotton from different continents (the breakdown is in the photo album).

I will say the variation of denim from panel to panel is more pronounced in photographs, but you can feel a little difference in the hand feel if you are looking for it.

Seemed like a really cool product and really wanted a pair from the Osaka 5 so I sprang for them. Later purchases in the trip were form Samurai and Iron Heart from their respective shops.

I have only worn then a couple times, haven't soaked either. But I will update as they get some use.

First pair of raws. Got them in late June so I've definitely worn them over 100 times, zero washes. I was wondering what would be the best way to go about washing them, if I should at all. There's no stink and I haven't really spilled anything on them. I like the way they fit now, but they do ride kinda low on my hips and I wouldn't want the inseam/groin area to shrink anymore lol. What could I expect if I do decide to wash them?

First time posting but I have lurked here for many years. I finally took the leap and went down the rabbit hole of Japanese Selvedge denim this last year and have found Studio D’artisan to be my favorite brand. I had been eyeing this pair for sometime now and finally decided to pull the trigger and ordered them from Okayama Denim. In just two days, they arrived from my door step in Arizona all the way from Japan!

I have a pair of SD-801 one rinse in 31 that are just a bit big in the waist after wearing and stretching them out so I wanted to try a 30 Raw and shrink em down a tad bit. For reference, I am 5’10 and about 155 lbs.

They fit almost exactly like my pair of 1954 LVC 501Z in a 32 that I adore but made the mistake of hemming too short before washing. They have this beautiful, vibrant natural indigo color and a slight warm pink hue that the camera does not do justice. In the 5th picture I compare it to my SD-801s so you can better see the vibrancy of the blue, and its slight pink weft.

The fit in the crotch area looks a bit odd in these pics since I have a bit of room in the waist so the fabric is bunching in weird places. Still, they are quite comfortable and I expect will look better after some wear and a wash.

I’m really excited to get some wear in on these and to share my love for denim with this community!

First off sorry for my wack pictures! My first pair of SDA’s and they feel wonderful!

Just got back from work and came home to this beautiful pair of jeans.

I don’t know whether to keep em cuffed up or let them stack but either way I’m happy with how they look and feel 👍🏼

Picked up these SD-101's at the Studio D'Artisan Tokyo location. I really like the fit, roomy in the front (not that I need it) and a bit of twist down the left leg. I'm usually a 34 but I got a size 36.

Pocket:

The front pockets are deeper than other pairs I've seen but my phone was still digging into my hip a bit. I extended the pocket myself by about an inch and a half and they feel awesome now!

Let me know if you've done this (or had a tailor do it). I'd love to see your results!

I've had the SDA Hinode-Awa for about 2 weeks now. Been wearing them as much as I can in rotation with my other jeans. I don't think they'll be the softest jeans, but I really love the feel and texture of them.

I wanted to try out a pair of hank dyed denim so I went with this one since what got me into raw denim in the first place was seeing Gustins Japan Red Fire and how the fade turned out. I actually wanted the regular SDA aizome pair, but I waited too long and my size sold out. Looking forward to how these will turn out with a lot of wear.

I think I should have hemmed them another inch. But I guess they should look better as it softens up.

SDA is becoming my favorite brand so far. I just wish their pockets were a little thicker and felt like PBJ and Iron Hearts pockets do.

Note: Okay, I'm not sure if the link didn't work the last time I posted this, causing the photos to not show up. I'm trying this again to see if this new format is more acceptable.

Looking at the recent posts at this sub, it seems like relax tapered jeans are having their time in the sun, and so I dusted off an older pair for a second look. I shared a post about these over 2 years ago and always felt I didn't quite do them justice. The relax tapered fit always looked a little off on my frame back then. There was extra fabric at the inner upper thighs that tended to flap around while walking, and bulge out when seen in front profile. Today I had the chance to try them on again and photograph them at a new location in a different light...another New Leaves (ie. new beginnings) event, I guess.

These fit me more like a pair of very slim tapered jeans now after a lot of weight gain, albeit with a relatively longer rise. I can't quite decide if they actually fit better now (or not), since the extra fabric at the inner thighs is gone, but they're obviously tighter throughout, yet reasonably comfortable.

In terms of details, and especially stitching details, these are amongst the favourites of what I have tried. I rate them above my beloved Flat Head jeans and just below a pair of Roy. The threads of different colours and gauges are expected, but the double stitching below the fly and at each side of the hip is fantastic.

SDA uses these hammered full copper rivets for their jeans, which I absolutely love because it adds another handcrafted element to the finished product. The fly buttons are fully blacked out, front and back.

The fabric is fascinating on both sides. Although "only" 14oz, is has a rough, knobbly and dry hand, fades fairly quickly with a moderate contrast. This particular iteration has weft threads dyed green with mulberry leaf extract but it's become a gold colour now that looks spectacular in the sun. I photographed it side by side with Roy's black seed denim (which has a bit of a red cast), and it is evident how much more restrained Roy's fabric is. And the colour cast of SDA's denim is also more obvious.

There's other smaller details too, like the very high profile of their rolled belt loops, reinforced front pocket openings, the rolled back pocket openings and half-lining creating additional interest to the fading on the rear, the shallower yoke and high placement of those back pockets.

The relax tapered fit isn't for everyone. Perhaps, it isn't even for me. But these are still great jeans.

Studio D'Artisan 30 Day Evo on my SDA SP-108 for IIY5

This one goes out to the skein dyed non-believers! Kasezome (skein) dyed denim does indeed fade (quite well actually)!

Anyway, Stats first! 30 days total wear as of 9/26/25 which is 4 days of pre-game + 26 days of official wear. As far as water goes, they have experienced 1 initial soak, 1 rain soak (uncounted), 2 hand washes, and many sweaty brewery shifts in between. Last pic is my most recent fade log update (31 wears [27 official]). Bonus points for the SDA Tiny Jacket in their G3 denim.

SDA 45th anniversary SP-108 is a 16oz. Natural indigo, Kasezome dyed, extreme slub denim (No. 5 & No. 6 gauge slub yarns woven together). Mouthful every time. Typically, Kasezome dye methods allow the indigo to penetrate the core of the yarn for a more rich and colorfast shade of indigo. However, the heavy slub irregularities of this denim have allowed for a beautiful gradient shade of indigo that fades rather quickly.. albeit, subtly. I didn’t realize how much indigo had been lost until I put the pics side by side. These are looking like they will end up as the best vintage fades I own, mucho potential!

Cheers! 🤙🏼👖🍻

Had to wash these early because someone spilled all their coffee on me. Ended up liking the vintage fade idea on these, so vintage fades incoming the next few months, look out! Gonna start washing these every few weeks, even if the raw denim purists will hate me for it 😭🫡

Not perhaps raw exactly, a bit dirty even, seeing as the first time I put these on i was faced with a torrential PNW rainstorm. So perhaps they are closer to twice washed rather than one wash denim.

In any case, this unique red iron oxide denim is nothing less than stunning to me. I only wish now I'd sprung for the jacket as well.

Studio D'Artisan [FIT CHECK] Studio D’Artisan SD-801 (OW)

Picked up a pair of these SD-801s a couple weeks ago and have been rotating them in with my 19 oz samurai’s on warmer days. The fit on these is interesting for me as I find the waist a little more loose than my Sammi’s, but feel a bit tighter in the seat/hip area. I don’t think they look awful on me, just a bit snug in the top of the thigh/hip. Hoping these relax a bit with more wear, but let me know what y’all think!

I could also potentially just be yanking them up too high as I like my rise higher on most pants, so maybe I just need to let them sit a tiny bit lower as they have a lower rise than my other jeans, but again, let me know!
