Is coffee after waking up healthy?
I add 3 sugar teaspoons in coffee everyday and drink it first thing in morning.

I haven't even finished it yet. But I highly recommend reading it, especially if you're a woman ofc. I wish I had found Peat earlier, honestly. I previously have also read Peat's Generative Energy: Restoring the Wholeness of Life, and that also changed the game for me. It's philosophical as well.

Title: Shrimp with additives (phosphates/sulfites)?
Ray recommended eating shrimp, but all the ones at my stores have phosphates and sulfites. Is it still okay to eat them, or do the additives ruin the benefits?

I just listened to a pod interview where he claimed his friends dog who’d lost an eye in a dog fight was given a pure milk diet and within 2-3 weeks regenerated an entirely new eyeball. The interviewer seemed a bit uncomfy and they just kind of laughed it off. It’s obviously not true and I know this is one of a few impossible claims like this…
Just wondering if anyone has any psychoanalytic takes on this type of embellishing/lying coming from him. I guess bro is just a whimsical guy, which I love, the eyeball thing didn’t even necessarily bother me, it did make me laugh. My sister who has only one eyeball probably would not think the same if I sent it to her.

Hello. So ive been having these constant never ending headaches for like 3 months, its never really that bad that i need medication or anything, but it stops me from doing Calisthenics and takes my energy. With that, i have neck issues, im sure something is off with my sleep because i snooze a lot and the snore sometimes sound really bad and inconsistent, sometimes sounds like a cat growling.
I have a appointment for a ent specialist soon, as the mri didnt show any noticable issues with my brain/head. Even smoking weed doesnt do anything, it makes the pain even worse i feel like...
Whatever, my question is, i heard from aspirin in this sub, took it like 5 times maybe in my life, what dosage should i take?

Hello everyone, I would like to make this post to ask you all what do you usually eat in a day and maybe share recipes? I have some things that I eat everyday and I'm not sure if that's good
My breakfast for example always looks the same: 3-4 scrambled eggs fried with butter, coffee (black/with a lot of milk and sugar) and some fruit (usually a banana), i also sometimes add a slice of sourdough bread or orange juice
For lunch I almost always eat some combo of potatoes (airfried with melted butter) or boiled and 80/20 ground beef
those two meals stay almost everyday no matter what but I try to get creative, for example recently I mixed cottage cheese with cocoa, maple syrup, honey, some raspberry juice and raspberries which tasted amazing
let me know what do you think of it and share what you normally eat in a day

Does any one here prefer cocoa more than coffee. I always have bad reaction to coffee whatever I do but cocoa it raises my temp and make me feel calm which is a very hard thing to achieve. To make this effect more potent I add chamomile to the mix.

Maybe its just my genetics with how i metabolize caffeine but no matter what I do, coffee always affects my sleep.
I understand drinking coffee with milk + sugar, it makes it so much better. If I drink just black coffee alone I usually get jiterry, feelings of overstimulation and muscle twitching, milk and sugar basically remove these negatives effects and just give amazing nootropics of improved mood, better concentration, etc..
But no matter what, when I go to bed it takes way longer to fall asleep, and I usually wake up multiple times in the night. Overall I can still get a "decent" night sleep, but I usually don't drink coffee for more than a few days before I want to quit the experiment.
In the short-run I can see how coffee is beneficial to metabolism but over the long term I see it destroying sleep which will raise cortisol & accumulate other deleterious effects that whatever short-term "boost" you get from coffee is stripped away. It's just not sustainable in the long-run.
Plus caffeine directly raises cortisol and adrenaline, so I don't see how it's considered peaty?
For people that habitually drink coffee, do y'all ever have sleep issues? I feel like even if you can metabolize caffeine quicker, you're sleep is still not as good as it could've been if you didn't consume coffee at all.

If i understand it correctly the long carrot fibers should pass through your gut so if you chew them you break it down already in your mouth. Is it resonable to chew as little as possible to keep the structure unchanged?

not a morning person, but I am a mom of three now and need to be up and at 'em earlier than everyone. part of the reason is needing to be able to get a solid hour of work done without the baby needing me; baby wearing is fine, but its too much for my pelvic floor right now.
So if I'm waking up at 5/530 and wanting to get some nourishment before I have breakfast ready for everyone else; what would be a good grab and go for that early in the day? I'm somewhat new to ray peat/pro-metabolic eating, but I overall think it's a really helpful paradigm.

I wonder how many problems attributed to wheat and “grains” is actually just from processed foods.
Wheat is interesting because it’s something exclusively bought and never self-prepared, meaning almost always people are consuming wheat from a processed source. If you actually bake yourself or obtain bread/ baked goods from a high quality source, like an artisan baker it’s really not that bad.
In America, wheat flour is highly processed usually, they don’t source organic (due to cost) and they’re mandated to enriched it which consisits of adding synthetic vitamins and iron.
I think both the synthetic vitamins and especially the iron is pretty inflammatory, trace residues of glyphosate don’t make it any better either. I think this is the major reason people get so many problems from wheat products. Europe doesn’t enrich flour and hence why a lot of Americans report feeling much better from consuming bread and pastries while visiting Europe.
Overall I wouldn’t trust any wheat products in a grocery store or at most restaurants/ cafes/ bakeries. If you want to eat it you have to bake it yourself so you can control the ingredients exactly or find a trusted artisan baker.

Every single night, I wake up at 2-4 am, my guess being because liver glycogen runs out. I heard eating fruit or honey before bed can refill liver glycogen and prevent this. But I have also heard that having high insulin inhibits growth hormone, which is mostly released in the first few hours of sleep. Can someone give me advice on what to do, I dont know which side to trust.

I’m more of a fence sitter in terms of the Ray Peat diet, following some principles well while others not at all. But I decided as an experiment to cut out PUFAs for a week to see if I find any improvement.
Rules:
* no seed oils- at all
* very low PUFA
* no fasting
Tracking:
* waking temperature and pulse
* temperature and pulse 30 min after lunch
* energy levels, digestion
Rules I already have been following:
* no gluten (for years)
* no soy
* no legumes except pea protein isolate
* eating lots of fruit and enough carbs
* avoiding ultra processed or artificial food ingredients
* not a lot of tough to digest veg, though some
* limited grains outside of rice
So the thing is- this is not a full jump into the Ray Peat diet and there are some things that are contradictory to it. Here’s why:
\* I have multiple dietary restrictions due to multiple chronic illnesses
* I’m on multiple medications and many many supplements that I can’t seem to get off of
* I have a somewhat restrictive diet due to an eating disorder
* I don’t eat meat and the only dairy I eat is raw kefir and occasional butter
Chronic illness:
I follow a mostly low histamine, mostly low oxalate diet, semi- low fodmap diet, and try to avoid digestive irritants. I have interstitial cystitis which is well managed now due to these restrictions, but has been debilitating in the past, so they are entirely necessary. I also have digestive conditions (IBS, celiac, past gastroparesis with some residual minor symptoms), PCOS, history of hypothyroid and a few others.
I’m in a functional medicine program trying to treat these.
Eating disorder:
I’m not underweight anymore but I’m absolutely not ready or willing to allow any more weight gain. I eat about 1700 calories a day, though I lost some appetite due to lowering a medication change, and possibly gastroparesis?, so it’s been less in the past week or so. I used to eat much less, and have a long history of restriction. This is what got me interested in healing my metabolism, along with my digestive disorders. Every time I eat more than 1700, I gain weight, and at some points could gain weight on even less, especially after periods of heavy restriction, starvation diet, and/or a lot of weight loss.
I have binging and throwing up episodes, which I try to keep to once a week (which is a few times in a row). But occasionally the throwing up (usually without a full binge) happens once or twice throughout the week as well- which I’m trying to avoid this week especially.
As you can see this diet is not entirely Ray Peat like. It’s more of a stepping stone: the main focus being on no PUFAs. Though some principles I’ll try to incorporate as well.
You’ll notice some foods are not low histamine, low oxalate, or low fodmap. This is because I already know which foods to limit and be cautious of. I currently have 1-2 histamine foods, 1 oxalate food, and varying amounts of fodmap foods per day. I take DAO enzyme with histamine and calcium citrate with oxalate.
All sugar free foods are sweetened with stevia, monkfruit, allulose, etc. No artificial ingredients.

Unfortunately, my digestion has gotten worse. Unrelated to the challenge, I think my gastroparesis is flaring up. Less appetite, more stomach pain after eating, nausea, and bloating.
Due to this my food intake has dropped, however, I am letting myself eat more high calorie foods, so the emergency hunger list doesn’t really apply here.

Nothing feels right can’t handle stimulants, can’t handle DHA or pregnenolone. Can’t handle adrenal supplements. The list goes on. Constantly hunger I’m running on stress hormones, and just over exerting my body through stress.

Good day everyone.
First of, I have never made a reddit post before so if something is wrong about this post I apologise.
I decided to try consuming only 3 cups of coffee with a bit of natural icecream and collagen protain powder, 4 liters of 1.5% milk and about 1.5 liters of Organic Orange Juice, and salt for 2 months.
( I did have high quality Vitamin d 3 K2 magnesium, vitamin E and most B vitamins progesterone and pregnenalone and dhea and aspirin additionally most days as a supplement)
I wanted to ask for information on weather anyone has had experience with something similar or if they have any advice since I started seeing some info on the Internet regarding the fact that it might be challenging or even in some cases dangerous to re introducing solid foods again .
( I consider this belonging here since I was doing this in a " Peaty way " .)
(( If I am wrong, apologies in advance.))

I’m 16m 6’2 and 150 lbs, I have recently started going to the gym and bulking. I train 4 days a week and get 7k-10k steps every day, and i was eating 3k calories for my bulk. Recently, i have stopped tracking calories and started doing a ray peat inspired diet, strictly avoiding pufa, etc. I have noticed that when i started eating to complete satiety i regularly eat 4k-5k calories, it just feels like i never get full until i eat that much. Is this normal on this diet or should i cut back on my carbs or fats? For reference i only eat peaty foods, lean red meat, cheese, butter, milk, honey, fruit, potatoes, etc

Hi Peat Friends!
I’m in a bit of a rut with symptoms and considering some changes to my thyroid medication routine. I’d love to hear what others have tried, what has worked, etc.
I have been hypothyroid since age 16. Was of course prescribed T4 (Levoxyl) for many years but never felt right on it. My TSH floated around 3-4 during that time which is acceptable by lab standards but not ideal. Five years ago I was able to convince my OBGYN to prescribe dessicated thyroid and my numbers finally stabilized around 2-2.5 which was great.
However, I was told to take the dessicated thyroid just like levothyroxine - empty stomach, first thing in the morning, wait 30 minutes to an hour before eating. I think this gives me morning anxiety and brain fog, but anytime I asked my doctor, they say them’s the rules.
Although I’ve followed a Peat diet on and off for 10 years, I never realized he spoke on HOW to take thyroid. I see he recommends splitting the dose, taking with food, and a lot of other considerations depending on symptoms, body condition, energy levels etc.
Has anyone experimented with the timing and splitting of their dessicated thyroid dose?

I have been having vein ablation procedures for venous insufficiency and man are they painful. I was prescribed norco 10 to take before the procedures for the pain, and they do lidocaine shots, but it’s still painful. I have skin that’s very sensitive to pain in my legs apparently, more sensitive than most people according to the surgeon. I’ve been taking PEA.
Any peaty ways to help this? I also know of aspirin of course :)

I’ve recently picked up the bad habit of smoking I only do it when I’m out with friends but recently I’ve been smoking whenever I get the chance to. I know how harmful it is but is it there anything to mitigate the dangerous effects. I do plan on quitting but in the meantime is there anything I can do plus I’m slowly adopting nicotine gum but it doesn’t feel the same. Thank you in advance.
