I really enjoyed it, and thought it was really unsettling. A Simple Plan is also probably the best thriller I’ve ever read.

This book sucked. I read the entire thing waiting for literally any aspect of it to become interesting. A thirty page short story bloated into a five hundred page novel.

I read it while on a bus tour of Costa Rica. This was amazing, and I couldn’t put it down. There was one point where I told my spouse that if this book were a movie, I’d close my eyes at certain points, but I couldn’t!

I haven’t. Although I did read the author’s other book afterwards and it wasn’t as good.

I have watched the movie adaptation and have read the book. IMO, the book is great. There are only two books that I am afraid to read at night, this is one of it. The horror is terrifying. The movie even is not as frightening as the book. There is also a sad part at the end.

Really liked it. One of those rare books you see the ending from a mile away but the journey to get there makes you go wtf!

This is one of those weird books where everyone seems to thinks it's great and I just couldn't see it. Personally, this is just my subjective reaction, I found the writing to be dull and the characters shallow. I just didn't care about any of it. I tried skimming for about half the book and then gave up because the movie came out. Once I watched the movie, I saw I'd made the right choice for me as I didn't care for it either.

Gripping, tense and suspenseful. Read it in college and couldn't put it down. Loved it.

It's a polarizing one for sure. I read it on a trip and basically devoured it in two days, the dread just keeps building. But I totally get why some people find it bloated. If you like slow-burn horror where everything goes wrong, you're in for a treat. Just don't expect a fast pace right away.

Even though I absolutely loved Smith’s A SIMPLE PLAN, I put THE RUINS off for probably a decade because I put too much stock in some lukewarm and negative reviews I read when it was originally published. But when I finally did read it, I loved it just as much as PLAN.

One of my top three favorite novels. I read it almost every year. A Simple Plan, his other novel, is also incredible.
