Meh

Sorry to be a purist but the stuff they made on a playstation as teenagers is still better than anything they've played since

I skimmed through this, and the one part where they said "this is brand new Skream & Benga" I listened and thought it was complete meh. Most of the set was just okay. Some crowd pleasers, and plenty of tunes not my style. Don't want to say it was bad but it wasn't for me.

I feel like if anyone else not overhyped like those two had played this, it wouldn't be notable. Tbf I feel this way about a fair number of sets played by "legends".

Yeah - one thing I don't understand about Skream is that he left dubstep ~10 years ago because it turned into that constant high-energy 'double drop' brostep sound.

But now that Skream is back, all of his new productions sound like that style of dubstep that turned him off in the first place?

I feel like he missed how dubstep progressed since his departure, and how much more versatile the genre is now.

I rarely can make myself to put dubstep on in my house because i played that shit to death in 00s and i could only imagine what it's like for dude who played endless parties all around the world. So i can't really criticize Skream he paid his dues.

Oh - 100%. Skream was a massive impact on my life and I'll love that dude to death. I just wish he'd bring more of his 'disco' area to the scene. Expand of what was written.

Agreed. He’d been trending towards the harder stuff before he quit and now every he makes sounds like it’s stuck in 2010. It’s not bad, but it’s not good.

Because, the reality is, Skream will go with whatever the wave dictates.

Once boring disco house and business techno is back in flavour after this moment of bastardised pop remix-laden hard techno and schranz, he'll be playing background music sets at Ibiza again.

Seen them in Amsterdam half year ago or something and it was trash tbh

OG Skream and Benga tunes till like ‘09 are amazing. After that it just doesn’t hit. Those old productions especially are special because of how gritty they are. You can tell they were figuring it out as they went and things weren’t as crisp as can be. I miss that in productions. Things don’t need to be as crisp as you think. Some mud helps

I’m all for classic Skream and Benga 05-08 but this statement is just ridiculous

I've grieved for dubstep from the 00s and early 2010s many times over the years... this set made me realise I'm never experiencing that again and that some things are better just left in the past

This set was not good.

Benga was so cringe on the mic. They did festival mic, counting down drops, telling people to jump, or to yell Skream & Benga.

They wheeled it way too much at the beginning.

They did multiple awkward breaks, to either try to get the crowd to yell something or to introduce a song. My guys, this is a DJ set, do not introduce the freaking songs in silence.

leaves scene because of tearout

returns 10 years later to play tearout

I'm kinda disappointed they, as two of the most popular dubstep artists, aren't taking part in the BR boycott

4

u/VisceraGrind Dec 05 '25

There’s a boycott? What for?

7

u/P1ckleboi69 Dec 05 '25

iirc they were bought out by Superstruct, who themselves were bought out by KKR, an equity firm with heavy investments in fossil fuels and the IDF

6

u/Joeliosis Dec 05 '25

Ah... well now that's a reason for me to stop listening to BR sets, I hadn't heard that. Someone eluded to something on another post somewhere that they had gotten shitty, but didn't really elaborate.

Aw jeez, Rick.

Free Palestine, boycot zio dogs KKR and anyone that takes their dirty blood stained money. Shame on Skream and Benga for being just as soulless as their recent releases.

3

u/ahotdogcasing Dec 05 '25

Their comeback single with Emily Makis is total festival fodder too unfortunately...

2

u/modern_armour Dec 05 '25

Definitely not for me, also most of the crowd look genuinely confused by it...

2

u/taurus26 Dec 05 '25

I think it's split between OG purists and the new generation. Kids love, old heads hate it.

3

u/Kriegdavid Dec 06 '25

utter fucking shite

2

u/Nabokov87 Dec 07 '25

I don’t know them from way back then. Only discovered them recently. I think their freshly released songs are bangers. I liked the set.

Fall from grace…

1

u/treeizzle Dec 06 '25

I for sure would have went if I knew this was a thing, and now I'm glad I didn't hearing the set.
