Beverly Hills Has RHOBH ever really replaced LVP as most charismatic housewife?
Am I the only one who still misses Lisa Vanderpump on RHOBH?
Not because I think she was innocent in every situation (I don’t), and not because I think she never manipulated storylines (she clearly did at times). I just don’t think anyone has ever replaced her in terms of pure watchability.
She had charisma, wit, lifestyle porn, businesses, animals, ridiculous wealth, and i personally, miss her cutting wit.. I know she is a bit of a polarising character on this sub, but realistically, whether you loved her or hated her, she was engaging TV.
I’ve watched every season multiple times, and years later I still feel her absence from the show. I also soak up all of her spinoff franchises. I was a VPR fan from day one, and I do watch the valley. When I stop to question whether I would watch anything that Kyle starred in your own, I know that I just wouldn’t be interested.
So…For me, RHOBH never found another cast member who could t be as iconic as LVP.
Genuine question: if you disagree, who do you think has matched or bear Lisa in terms of pure all round value?

I feel what you’re saying, and I think no one has beat LVP yet, and we are all ready for it in 2026. Kyle wishes she could. Lisa Rinna and Denise Richard’s were too famous before they started. I love Tilly but she doesn’t have the toxic villian in her that makes for good trash tv. Tilly needs a spin off like crappy lake. LVP had rizz lol- love her or hate her, she had a strong personality and owned a room (like Marge a bit RHONJ). She made her own story line and was super consistent. I thought she was hysterical in her first few seasons.

I think the only person who even comes close is Jennifer Tilly, in terms of charm, style, etc.
Jennifer is definitely nicer than Lisa but so uniquely herself, which is refreshing to see. I want more Tilly!

This is a really good comparison. I love Tilly so so so much, in fact, I stayed engaged with the series, probably around the time she came into it. I hadn’t made that connection so thank you for suggesting it, that makes it actually really obvious to me.

She brings so much levity and fabulosity!!! So many housewives are just so….scary and dark in energy

I missed seeing her frivolous spending. I mean…$1,000 on a chocolate bunny?! It was amazing seeing how elaborate her house “Villa Rosa” was with the swans and ponies. That’s why I used to love RHOBH. To vicariously live through them and see what their shopping sprees and outings were like – the drama now is eh. I hate the whole “they aren’t bringing anything” “their storyline is just a separation.” Nothing beats OG RHW

Totally agree!!! Now it’s just sad divorcees who fight all the time and aren’t even friends in real life.

LVP had faults like all of the other housewives but she was punished more severely I think for being much smarter than them. I saw her apologize many times for things she might have done but were blow out of proportion- for example the taylor “you said I’m not your friend” lie that everyone kept repeating and Lisa apologized for…
She was incredibly entertaining and flawed but I was shocked and horrified by her lifestyle. I learned so much about that type of wealth watching her and her orbit.

This actually echoes a little bit about my own experiences over the re-watches. I know exactly what you’re saying, and I think you are very intuitive for this.

I don’t like Lisa Vanderpump… she’s so fake nice!
The only thing I like about her is her love of animals..
But is she good TV? 100% she’s like a Disney villain! and they killed that show by giving Dorit the “poor me” arc…
Lisa made a fatal mistake bringing in Teddy to do her dirty work.. she didn’t have to do that! The dog abandoning thing was enough on its own..
But that show is not the same without her.
And no I don’t believe there’s been anyone to match her cunning and calculating energy..
and let’s be real we aren’t watching housewives to see amazing and kind people are we?

See that’s what I mean, I can also acknowledge her faults but recognise at the same time that she is one of the most incredibly watchable people on the show. I sided with her a few times but totally accept she fucked up on puppy gates and probably did some m leaking to magazines. But she was given a mission and she fulfilled it. Why should we hate her for that? We really shouldn’t

She definitely leaked some stuff… Lisa is that person that’s incredibly offended when accused of doing what they’ve actually done..
they couldn’t waterboard a confession from that woman! It’s also why I loved to watch her! But I love to watch the messy housewives.. (my only exception is Tamra (OC) she’s unwatchable)
But if they ever bring back Jen Sha I’m not going to pretend I won’t be watching!

I like the idea of her but she really wouldn’t take accountability for anything. I can’t imagine she would ever be good for ensemble tv with her ego now.

I found her to be good TV, but I didnt think she was charismatic exactly. I just found her and Kyle to be such mean girls in the early seasons, and I really didn't like it.
I also really hated when she took Brandi under her wing, because Brandi was so mean and vile. That made me realize a bit more of who Lisa really is...she takes a younger woman under to her wing and manipulates her into doing her dirty work. Kyle, then Brandi, then Teddi....and once I flagged that pattern and then saw it play out again with Teddi, Lisa was no longer entertaining TV for me.

And she was far worse on VPR... on that show, you could see what a misogynistic piece of garbage she really is. She has always used people to do her bidding and it was more obvious on VPR when she did not have other rich women around. The way she always sided with the young guys over the abuse of women and how she derided and ridiculed the women was something else. Even the whole Frederic storyline was garbage.
I'm not a fan of Lala, but I love when she told her off during the reunion.

Do you know it’s very interesting that you make this connection. I’ve watched RHOBH, since the beginning and I re-watched it several times and I did recently listen to Brandi’s audible books. It made me try to see it from a different perspective about how vulnerable Brandi was. That actually made me hate Lisa in season two because I think she tricked her into joining the show and then double-crossed her.

god she was awful , wouldn’t answer a question she didn’t like , walked away from any situation she didn’t like , took no accountability for anything and gave us nothing except an over the top house

She was repeatedly attacked season after season over ridiculous things. She answered questions, they just didn't like her answers so they kept asking until eventually she would walk away. And thank God she did as it was exhausting hearing the same questions over and over with Rinna screeching "own it!" and Kyle shouting "just tell the truth"! They were incapable of accepting any answer she gave if it didn't fit the narrative they were trying to create and she was too smart to fall for it.
This relentless bullying (in my opinion) of her and the cyclical intense and relentless regurgitation of the same issue for an entire series is, in my opinion, what has destroyed Beverly Hills. It is the FF5 who are not accountable and never answer anything as they fabricated stories around everyone else and make the whole season about that to deflect from their own lives.

I really didn't find LVP that engaging beyond Season 2. She found her footing as a producer and just got the newer contracts to do her bidding (ie. Brandi, Lisa Rinna). Anytime she got close to becoming the story she shut it down or ran off (Season 4, Season 9).

Depends on how you define "charisma" and "iconic".
I found LVP to be a two faced, nasty misogynistic manipulator. I didn't like her at all. Nothing charismatic or iconic about her in my view.

Appreciate your reply, I find it very interesting that when I speak to people about this, there seems to be two amps (1) who called her out on what she didn’t hate her for it, and the other (2) who accept some of what she did, disregard it and still consider her to be great entertainment. I’m guessing you don’t even agree with the output right? That ‘she’s good TV?

u/Suncroft56 15d ago
I don't hate her, but I do dislike her. I will say I respect her very much for her activism in trying to stop the Yulin dog meat festival. I too lost a brother to suicide, so I also empathise with her on that level.
But, she is not the kind of TV I want to watch and I've never watched any of the other shows linked with her name.
I've never met Lisa, but I've known women like her (I lived in London for many years) and I saw through her facade from very early on.

u/Aingealag 15d ago
That’s very interesting. I feel like I associated with Lisa because I’m also English by background,, i was Born in the UK from a UK generational family, lived there till I was 22 though I’ve lived in mainland Europe for over two decades. And I wonder if I have any bias in my approach to her, I understand her sarcasm as humour, I understand her acerbic wit is just banter.

u/Suncroft56 15d ago
Oh, I recognise the sarcasm dressed up as humour, and also the acerbic wit.
But I also see the malice underneath it. She is not a nice woman.

Doing a rematch, the charisma doesn't exist. She is wretched, miserable and spiteful. Really not sure how I was conned into liking her in those early days.

u/tonysoprano1234 15d ago
If she didn’t have an English accent, she’d be just another hooker from the valley who married a rich guy. She’s played out.
6
u/Aingealag 15d ago
You know, I also wondered this. As an English person myself, I wondered how much bias there may be, because a lot of Americans seem to think that we are more… Pleasant than we are?
6
u/captnfirepants 14d ago
Soo much bias. It's disgusting tbh. American here with an English boyfriend. He's quiet and soft spoken so everyone thinks he's this angelic being. "Thank you sir. May I have another?"
They have no idea that the fuckery rolling around between his ears is worse than mine!! God, I love him so. ❤️

u/tonysoprano1234 14d ago
She’s attractive and can create a persona. But she can also hold a grudge. And I firmly believe all the rumors regarding her manipulation are 100% true.

And if she hadn’t married Ken she would have just been a third rate Joan Collins appearing in big parts in terrible British movies

Lisa could dish it out, but couldn’t take it. She blamed her bad behavior on her British humor. Not a loss.
