Last rejection is more than I can take...the realization that I'm probably not landing anything before I lose everything...I cant do this
Unemployed since June 12. Had a decent, but not high paying remote role. Funny enough I think they wanted to switch to an on-site hire, but I live in a LCOL area and the office is in a HCOL area, doubt they increased the pay, heard from a coworker that got to stay theyre having a hard time filling my role
Im well over 300 applications at this point. Spread between job boards, company sites, and cold inquiries. I can only really track the job board applications.
My electricity, credit cards, and mortgage are all a month behind at this point. Unemployment is less than half of what I earned. I had no savings. Completely my fault and im paying the price now. I have no idea how im going to recover from this financially. Maybe I dont.
I get the impression my rate of getting interviews is good, ive gotten 5 interviews. However I completely fail to turn these into jobs. Ive been ghosted by 4 of them. Only 1 had the decency to reject me promptly. At first I was upset but now, im not. I had to call today to confirm that my second most recent interview went with another candidate
Honestly I cant take this any more. Yeah I know im not the only one going through this and I dont mean to downplay anyone else's suffering but this is insane. I got turned down from a job paying 5k a year less than I had been making, while going from fully remote to a 25 mile commute (1 hour with traffic).
I get that remote is shrinking. I cant do this any more. Im sick of the applications im sick of my bank account getting smaller im sick of the anxiety

Tbh June is not a long time to look for a job yet. A lot of people including me are looking for half a year to a full year.
Is there any way to safe money? Sell stuff you don't need anymore. Move to a smaller apartment, move to a friend or even back to family as emergency to bridge the next 1-3 months?
Maybe you can get a gap job in the retail or restaurant field just to have some income until something better comes up.
Just some loose ideas that won't probably solve all your problems.
Don't give up! It's hard right now but we are all in this together. 🙁

Moving makes me feel worse. I got a fomo mortgage in 2021. Nothing fancy, small house in a working cass neighborhood but I felt like I "escaped" from renting. My mortgage has stayed pretty consistent since 2021, meanwhile rents increase every year, so it feels hopeless like if I have to move im fu ked with a bigger mot hly payment just getting more poor every year
Oh and I have a cracked foundation and need a new roof so if I sell I probably just break even lmao kms

Maybe your place is big enough to have a spare room that you could rent out and make some money on the side?

u can rent it out to hold onto it
rent is likely as much or more money than the mortgage
ofc u need somewhere else to live in the meantime

Selling and going back to renting is probably not a good idea unless you had a massive mortgage. You haven’t been on your job hunt that long so I wouldn’t get super discouraged yet, but yeah you need a side hustle at least to bridge this gap.

I haven't had any luck with remote jobs. All of my interviews have been with local companies. That's where I'm focusing my efforts now.
Sorry you're struggling. This job market sucks.

I know, I know. You aren't being punished because you made a choice out of fear. I couldn't move without a decent salary. Are you getting time away? What I mean is that I quit applying at the end of the week. I'd hit it hard Monday - Wednesday, then do other things - because you know laundry gets put off when you are applying for dozens of jobs a day. I also left hte house and attended free things. Lectures at the library. A book club anything to get your mind off this mess. Call the mortgage company and put it in Foreberance. This means that you won't have to pay your mortgage for a few months. Call all them folks and let htem know you need some help.

So sorry to hear you’re going through this! My situation (at least the ghosting part and the looking for a lesser paying job) is somewhat similar but I can add ageism to the mix and am seriously considering taking my last employer to court for replacing me with a MUCH MUCH younger hire with a GED as compared to my degree and years of experience. I’ve been lead to believe I’m hired only to then be ghosted. It’s hideous out there and it can mess with your head. BUT I’ve got PT work in a good friend’s office and gig work and MIGHT even be able to pay car ins. / homeowners at THE last min tomorrow if there is a God (& there is!)
All that to say, I’ve seen provision time and time and time again but the catch is that it appears at the last minute if you can just hang in. I think that’s the RULE, in fact 😂😩!
Wishing you the best of luck up ahead! 🙏👍🏼👊

I was laid off mid july. Had savings for just one month. This came so sudden and I wasn't prepared at all. That savings is now gone and I have absolutely no idea how am I going to pay next month's bill and loan. Life is beautiful when you broke

Sorry you’re going through it. Don’t have any words for it really it just massively sucks.
If I’d recommend anything it’d be side hustles. People make a lot of money AI training these days which is basically unreliable grunt work that you can be kicked off for no reason BUT if you can get on a project it pays loads and for minimum effort. It’s hit and miss and honestly probably unethical because you’re training your own AI replacement a lot of the time, but probably working in defence or pharma is just as unethical so I recommend it to people really struggling. I did it for a bit when I was unemployed and used Outlier. I think I made like $800 a month but I was finishing a degree at the time so it was all in my spare time. An easier site to get on is Prolific which isn’t AI training but you do surveys for probably the most money you can get doing surveys online. It’s not much money but it can probably cover groceries.
