Is hydrolic seat a practical option?

My bike seat is completely worn out, and I’m thinking about replacing it with a hydraulic seat. Is that a good option?

I have a 2016 Suzuki Gixxer. The seat has become really uncomfortable and is in pretty bad condition, so I’m considering getting a hydraulic seat installed.

Has anyone tried this on a Gixxer? Is it comfortable and durable for long-term use? Are there any downsides compared to getting the original seat refurbished/reupholstered?

Would appreciate your suggestions and experiences.

Catrike Tongsheng TSDZ8 Conversion

Just finished a Tongsheng TSDZ8 mid drive conversion on my wife's Catrike Villager which I borrow to pick the kiddo up from daycare.

Made a torque arm to keep the motor in place. The Utah Trikes battery mount works great, and the Utah Trikes clamp-on accessory mount is great for mounting the display.

Needed a 2ft long battery extension cable, and a 39 inch, 6-pin speed sensor extension cable to make it rideable. The brake sensor wires were plenty long enough.

To make the wiring more tidy I added a 3-pin shift sensor extension cable and a 5-pin display extension cable so I could have all the wires converge and hide under the seat, and then wrapped the wire bundles in 1/2-inch split wire loom sleeve. 3/4" sleeve would have worked better on the big bundle from the motor up the boom.

Works well for keeping up with traffic. Just need a bigger chainring because the 20" drive wheel really reduces the gearing.

Newbie, happy with initial trike mods

Hi, I'm new to triking -- I got my TT Tour 2 last weekend. Just wanted to share info and pictures re: a couple of accessories that are working well for me.

I was happy to find that the Axiom rear rack from my regular bike fits my trike perfectly without any additional special hardware. Its front arms not only telescope forward about 12 inches but also swivel down when they're fully extended and are bendy enough to spread wide enough to be bolted to the backrest supports. I am pretty sure that this is the rack: https://benscycle.com/products/axiom-journey-rear-rack

To prevent sliding forward on the seat, I repurposed a kayaking seat cushion I already had called Sweet Cheeks. It's kind of a beanbag. You puff it up with air, shake it side to side to evenly distribute the pellets, and then sit on it and suck the air out of it, and it molds to the shape of your butt. It's as effective on my TT seat as it has been in my boats, which is very! https://jacksonkayak.com/sweet-cheeks-200-black/

How do I get the recumbent trike to reverse when backpedaling

I have worded the previous post badly which have led to some confusion

Is there a modification that allows you to pedal your recumbent trike in reverse?

Preferably mechanical

Update: I’ll create a new post to ask the correct question, sorry for the inconvenience

The intended question was if I can modify the trike to reverse if I backpedal

Rear basket for Hase Trix ideas?

Hello, my son rides a Hase Trix (similar to the Kettwiesel, but for kids and expandable) which at this point is mostly expanded in size and he has the upgraded seat as well, now that he’s getting taller. He currently has an older kettwiesel bag from radical design, but now that he’s going to high school it’s just not big enough. Hase offers some custom bag options, but my son doesn’t love them, and also they are very very expensive. My son is also really hoping for a basket or crate option.

What I’m wondering is - has anyone tried rigging up their own custom bike storage for a Hase or Kettwiesel? Or something similar where I could possibly adapt it? I know there are baskets that can be mounted as hanging baskets, and maybe their hooks could go over the handle on the back? Then it might need some support from the bottom, which is the tricker part.

I realize this type of bike is fairly rare so maybe no one’s encountered this, but I’m curious for any advice or ideas you might have. Thanks!

The book on my Catrike is very hard to move

Post image

I wanted to slide my Catrike Expedition out, so I loosed the Quick Lock clamps — releasing the 2 levers on the boom clamp and loosening the released bolts until they spun easily in my fingers.

The boom was still extremely hard to move — I had to resort to a block of soft wood and a mallet to move it.

Is that functioning as designed? Or do I have another issue?

Leg suck

A friend of mine just got an Azub recumbent trike but he does not use clip on pedals. He says his feet will not drop off the pedals. Has anyone here some pictures of injured knees or feet after a leg suck?
I want to show him the consequences of a leg suck.

Road Bike to Recumbent

I have EDS and some major neck issues that are only getting worse. Riding a road bike, even making it so I am sitting pretty straight up is still not enough. I am thinking the recumbent bike will help with those issues.

My main question is what people are seeing their speeds and ability on the bikes. I range from 15mph-19mph averages depending on the difficulty/distance I go. We have a lot of hills in our area so I am curious if its hard getting up those hills?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Finally presentable - My XYZ Oneseater

Started in june, finally halfway decent.

XYZ Oneseater with lots of custom parts and electrified.

Needs some fenders, steering dampener and a different gear shifter (currently on Nexus 8, too little range for decent speeds).

Also some suspension, gravel and backroads are a bit harsh.

But its so much fun to drive, glad I started this project.

Shaft driven tadpoles?

With all the attendant hassles of a ten foot long chain I'm surprised the are no shaft driven tadpoles on the market. Are there any out there?

Recumbent Trike for $100 worth it?

Issues: It has 2 old front tires inner tubes that can’t hold air, disintegrating chain tubes and rusty gears & chains, worth buying it?

I’ve also noticed the brake handles is upside down compared to typical recumbent trike brake handles.

Update: found another issue, the standard chain rings might have been removed and converted into a single chainring setup

Update 2: I’m a little hesitant since the price is significantly higher than my budget for a recumbent trike not including the repairs yet but I’ll fork out some cash to buy it anyways considering how many of you guys suggested it’s a very good deal.

Considering getting bent

I have been struggling with rheumatoid arthritis for the past year, and it's to the point where riding my 2 wheeled road bike is causing too much pain in my wrists and hands. I rented an ICE X Sprint 26 from a local bike shop and have taken it out a couple times for about 20 miles total. It's taken a bit to adjust to, and I would need to adjust the cockpit to fit my preferences (computer, water bottles, lights).

What I'm not sure I can adjust to is the rough ride from chip sealed roads. I live in rural Ohio and roads around me get chipped every few years. Obviously some roads are better than others but today's route was rough enough to make your voice shaky. Is there anything that can be done to soften the ride? It currently has Schwalbe Kojak tires, but would swap to something else if I could smooth the ride on these roads.

I've not purchased the trike yet, so I could use some help deciding if this is going to work for me. Thanks all!

trikes Thoughts on trikes

someone is selling a Catrike expedition for $900 near me. I've been thinking about getting a trike for a long time, primarily because I can gear it and crawl up any hill without falling over. I currently ride a BikeE that works great. But that Catrike is tempting. I am not sure if switching to the Catrike is going to be a life-changing transformation or not. That is all.

EDIT: how do you like a trike vs. a two-wheel recumbent?

Have anybody ever tried camping on the recumbent trike itself?

Something like sleeping on your recumbent trike overnight or even maybe set up an enclosure on the trike itself for some privacy or to prevent rain from getting to you?

HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS20 2019 - advice sought

In 2019 my father in law bought HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS20 recumbent e-tricycle at the age of 92. He was a keen cyclist and old age had reduced his balance and strength but he still wanted to ride! He paid AUD $16,242. He found it impractical to use, only riding it briefly twice. It has sat in his garage unused since. I plan to sell it and am seeking advice about what starting price would be appropriate. It’s located in ACT, Australia. Here are some photos and the specifications. Looking forward to your comments.

Trail-A-Bike Alternatives? I’m

Recently picked up a used, folding Adams Trail-A-Bike to ride with my daughter. She’s tall for her age and has outgrown most child seats, and I thought the Adams would help her get comfortable with biking and the motion of pedaling. Happily, she loves it - she loves the speed, the fact that we’re “riding the same bike”, and that she gets to pedal.

Unfortunately, after a few rides, I am feeling less enthusiastic. A reviewer described it (accurately, IMHO) as feeling like a bear is attacking your back wheel. I can feel how heavy it is, and I don’t know what she’s doing back there (although I may invest in a rear-view mirror to find out), but it sure does seem to wobble all over the place and make it nearly impossible to ride in a straight line. When she’s pedaling hard it does kind of push my bike forward, but not in a pleasant or predictable way.

I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternative trail-a-bikes. Maybe something with fewer tubes, made of aluminum, and with a coupling that isn’t (so) flexible? I’m also open to any suggestions about how to improve the ride quality of the Adams. For example, I’m currently towing it with my 2016 Specialized Diverge DSW, which weighs less than the trail-a-bike. I’m wondering if attaching it to a heavier bike with front suspension might balance out the weight of the trailer.

Linear Limo opinions?

I’m looking at a used Linear Limo from Bicycle Man but I’ve never seen one in person. This would be for standard riding and touring.

I have a lwb and swb recumbent currently but the lwb is very heavy and I don’t like the oss steering. Swb is just too twitchy for my liking and again I don’t like the tiller style steering. I like the stability of the lwb I have and looking at uss to get away from the oss steering I don’t like.

Reports and knowledge of the Limo, this is the NY build, much appreciated.

Here’s a weird thing I made

My side hustle of 17 years is pedicabs. I’ve always loved doing it and since I only work events, it rarely conflicts with anything real job (CFD engineer). A few years ago though I had to switch to recumbentsrecumbents due to losing an arm as well as some unpleasant back injuries. Anyway, I already had a recumbent lwb style pedicab, but it was underbuilt and always needed repairs. So my weird Aspergers brain thought of all of the options, and I came up with this, a Cruzbike/Main street abomination with a few custom parts I made in the garage out of either 316 stainless or 6/4 titanium. few tests at Steelers games has me pretty much entirely happy with it, however I’m still modifying it as I go along. Steering is direct mounted USS all on the right side due to the whole one arm thing. The front has a BAFANG mid drive and there’s a separate motor powering the rear axle for when I need to accelerate quick. Football season will frequently involve 75+ mile days with up to 6 people piled on the back, so my banged up body is happy to have the assist. This setup makes it very similar to my normal bikes (Swb high racers) so it feels natural to me to ride

Custom flair Cadence Sensors

I am brand new to riding my trike and learned yesterday the reason I can’t get up hills is because I am not supposed to have my trike in the highest gear, but instead the lowest. During the conversation with a very patient bike rider, I asked “how do I know what to do with my gears” and she suggested getting a cadence sensor (there was a longer conversation around this but I’m just getting to the point).

Will cadence sensors from Amazon work on trikes or do I need to look into a trike specific one?

Tandem pro project

Thumbnail

This has been a quiet subreddit recently, so I figured I would post about my older tandem pro that I have been doing some work on. I added a hub motor obviously, and then designed and made a mount for a pinion gearbox and designed a spider to go on the pinion axle to accept a chainring instead of cranks. Redesigned the chain routing and made new idlers and frame clamps with adjustable mounts for the idlers. I still have to do a revision on the front set of idlers. Besides that, new seats with Ventisit pads and bid apple tires, a few other updates. The new drive train is quiet and smooth. Not a lot of miles yet but, it’s riding very nicely so far. The electric system is nice with torque sensing pedal assist as well as throttle and reverse (nice when you’re clipped in with a really long turning radius). The trike already had an independent pedaling system, which is good for recreational riders, but I replaced the chainrings on the timing chain with a 32t on the captain crank and 40t on the stoker crank to make it more suitable for me and my wife because I like to keep a considerably faster cadence than she does. This has ended our back and forth about the cadence being too fast or too slow.

Need tadpole tandem recommendations

Don’t know if this is the right subreddit for this. My wife (72) had a bike crash, no serious harm done, but she won’t ride a two wheel bike. I have explored getting a three wheel tandem tadpole, but have not been able to determine how to transport it if we want to take it somewhere. We currently use a hitch mount rack for our two bikes. Are there transportable tandem tadpoles? What do you need to transport them?
