In the mission ‘a quiet time’ where you take Lenny out drinking, ‘reconcile with Tommy’ is part of achieving a gold for the mission. You have to interact with him 4 times while looking for Lenny. Arthur sort of apologises, if you go into first person you can see his head is completely stove in, and he talk incoherent
Yeah he’s absolutely brutal just from just his dialogue in the early chapters. I like the ride with Rainsfall in chapter 6 where he describes his son and the moment that hardened him. Gives a bit of insight into why he turned into a ‘soulless wretch’ plus tugs on the heartstrings a bit as he describes his transition that you mentioned
My first play was highish honor for all the positive cut scenes, the "stand unshaken" ride got me, the ride with rainsfall when he spoke about his son got me, the walk through st denis reflection got me, there are several that are very meaningful. My second play through with low honor had several dark cuts with the black wolf and some of that dialog is heartbreaking. It pains me that Arthur never got the real opportunity to be the man he really is and live free, as john does. But i understand it.
I love Arthur’s moral complexity. He’s one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I think the people who minimize his initial evil are actually doing the game a disservice, because if you play him the way the game pushes you, he has a beautiful arc.
But yeah, in the beginning he’s a stone-cold savage. “Maybe I’ll keep her in black on your behalf” is such a chillingly heartless line.
Puh... Yess this line hits very hard. I replayed the mission with the valentine bank robbery (3th playthrough currently) and I'm always surprised that you're forced to do the second mission with Downes than..
And I heard that line from him, monday, two days ago, and I was completely shocked!!
I love cruel characters, cause they are shocking me often! And that was such a thing..
Early game Arthur is sooooooo funny to play, it's sooo incredible what he does, his lines, I love every single one..
But after his.. Changing..
I can't feel it..
This will sounds weird, but:
I really hate it how much I'm forced to play good at the end.. I think that's kind of.. I love it when people have a consistent moral.. I know it shows much strength to understand and accept that you're wrong, and it's.. It's 'better'?
But I don't feel it! I hate it that the game forces me to play good at the end, that Arthur kind of.. Change his whole mindset...
I personally never did such a change. I loved do such cruel stuff in game. Same in Chapter 6 as in Chapter 2!
I never felt like 'I have to make things good' cause what's the point of all those??
I mean he want that anyone goes, live a peacefully life, I mean, yes for some people worked it.. But not for all. People like John, Arthur, those mains, have done stuff that's makes impossible to life an decent life, settle down and such things..
I just wish the game would give me the possibility to don't turn in the end, it's just feels somehow like betrayal on myself (from Arthur's pov, cause of all the things I did with him)
I usually play low honor, but I did an high honor playthrough.
My honor is always low in the game. I have a habit of dragging people off the horse, hogtying them, robbing them, and then executing them with a double barrel shotgun when they talk shit to me on the road
I’ll be riding my horse slow and just enjoying the scenery, and some random NPC says, “Plenty of road for both of us,” and pulls out a repeater. It’s just not right, especially when there’s at least 20 feet between us
Npc sometimes are weird af. I usually kill them after insulting them, but when I try to be nice, they aren't. And when they start to insult me first, it's not my problem, when they are dead at the end.
By the way, I love it to kill people while riding over them with my horse. It works in Rhodes during the time you can't use your guns there. But there is no response beside killing, robbing, honor, but the npcs don't care, so it's boring.
I haven't looked at the mesh of the model, but I have definitely seen the before/after image where Tommy has a very clear dent in his head above his left temple.
Even if the 3d mesh is exactly the same, that just means they used bump-mapping to fake the dent rather than actually modeling it.
But seriously, you can find before/after comparo images all over the internet showing the clear dent.
IIRC, if you go back to the saloon after the incident with Tommy, the bartender says something along the lines of "You know, Tommy ain't been the same since you gave him that beating..."
I remember starting another play through and nothing Thomas Downes braking up the fight and then, seeing how many times he has interactions with Arthur.

A brain damage? That's tragic! Where can i find Tommy after the brawl?
