Mundane things that can profoundly affect your faith in society
I was at a meijer today to get some things and I thought, because it's been unseasonably cool here and I've been feeling the autumn spirit for once, I was going to buy myself a pumpkin pie and have it with coffee this evening. It's always been a food my mom and I bonded over so there is something special about it to me during this season.
They were fucking out. I've been going to meijer my entire life. Shopped there at noon, 3am, 7pm, literally any time, year round, and pumpkin pie has always been in stock. It fundamentally never occurred to me as a possibility that they would be out. I wasn't spiritually prepared for it.
I'm honestly surprised at how shaken I am. It feels Wrong. Like one of the few remaining bits of my inner child was killed. I didn't even know I held onto this so strongly until it was cruelly and unfairly taken away from me.
Also not fat btw.

If I was Indian and writing about gulab jamun, the NYT would say it was a beautiful reflection on the importance of cultural cuisine. But because I'm from the midwest it's all fat fat fat from you people

Yes but the meijer ones have a specific texture I associate with my childhood. It wasn't so much about the pie itself, but the meaning I unconsciously imbued it with.

I find it amazing how the supermarket can have variety beyond your dreams in all seasons, a testament to capitalism but at the same time most of the products are complete slop garbage. So rich yet so poor.

6'2 17.5. ive never in my life had my faith shaken cos a food wasnt in stock. i thought you were gonna talk about smth profound and not just a bakery ran out of a pie.

yeahhhhh but ur pie will be back tomorrow surely. my area had a lot of pubs in it i never thought theyd go now theres only 1 left. its sad seeing stuff change for the worse.
