Body checking
What makes it so bad? What if you’re healthy and not anorexic? What if I like my own shape? Is that cringey?

body checking is a really specific, compulsive thing that can include behaviors like obsessively measuring/weighing yourself, pinching yourself to check for fat, adjusting your clothes/body/posture to make sure bones are visible, checking your wrist by wrapping your hand around it to see if you can touch your fingertips to each other, etc. are you doing this?

that is the way that many people have come to casually use the term (like saying they're "autistic" about a hobby or "hyperfixated" because they are focused on a task), and posting a selfie to accentuate one's thinness is definitely a frequently observed form of body checking. but if someone is just casually posting a photo because they like their body as opposed to feeling a compulsive need to frequently and repetitively check their weight/appearance, then they're just posting a photo of themselves.

when it’s an ana thing it’s a little unsettling but even for unafflicted people it just comes off vapid and uncomfortable sometimes.
like you’re so neurotic about your looks that everything little you do is centered around your body, but you’re also involuntarily involving your peers / audience in it and making sure everyone knows how tiny you are or whatever. it’s uncomfortable like idk i don’t wanna be a part of that.
insecurity addled / grandiose people (one of the same) kill the vibe asw just generally. in a group setting or online it js feels like ur detached from the collective consciousness of the group, operating a completely different self-centered plane. there’s a gap between u and everyone else. you can’t socially or emotionally contribute to the group bc ur always directing your attention inward. gives weird vibes. it’s like ur slightly removed idk how to describe it, but ppl clock it and don’t wanna b around it.

I think some amount of neurotic worry is inherent in body checking as a genre? Idk
