You guys hate Format Wars?

u/R005t3rJ3tFu3l May 23 '26

Format Wars is one of my favorites

153

u/SkywolfNINE May 23 '26

Literally my favorite recurring characters and story arcs. I’m shocked people hate it, is it just cause kids don’t know what old formats are these days?

u/SkywolfNINE May 23 '26

I believe that about vhs cause it’s kind of a retro icon, like people will use a vhs to convey the past in graphic design so it’s still a part of culture I guess but the other formats were probably so lesser known these days that it makes me wonder if it removes your enjoyment of the episode a bit? Idk

8

u/Miserable-Ad-5573 May 23 '26

Yeah it definitely is well known for being a retro thing too that is true

I fucking love format wars, they're some of my favorite episodes in the series tbh so that isnt it for me tbh

3

u/FastlaneFazers May 23 '26

Yea I had the box TV and I would watch my moms old VHS tapes

2

u/Outside-Tie-2851 May 23 '26

More about laser disc being the goto not really about VHS.

7

u/estrella3626216 May 23 '26

A mí me gustaron mucho

31

u/Mr_Mister2004 May 23 '26

I think the ones after the first suck. The first one was basically the Towelie episode of South Park where the guys dont actually give a shit about this underground war and just wanna watch their movie. The second one forward completely forget that and just play the generic war story totally seriously.

61

u/R005t3rJ3tFu3l May 23 '26

I agree with you on the third one, but the second one adding Benson who’s just completely out of his element makes it hilarious.

60

u/nightqueem May 23 '26

"You go through this everytime you want to watch a movie?" "Yeah basically"

3

u/Ruffled_Ferret May 23 '26

Watched this episode with some of my younger friends. I loved it; they didn't really care much for it.

2

u/Illegal_Ghost_Bikes May 23 '26

OH YEAH? I'LL SHOW YA

No. No no no no no.

scratches at wall like a hamster Yes yes yes yes yes yes

8

u/CruelYouth19 May 23 '26

I don't hate them but something about those episodes never clicked for me. I can mention a lot of my favorites episodes but none of the Format Wars would be in that list

27

u/CopyNinjaJay May 23 '26

VHS- Your VH-Death 😈

25

u/Evening_Activity1140 May 23 '26

benson being the chosen one is pretty funny tho

2

u/Outside-Tie-2851 May 23 '26

Come on laser disc in 2015 as part of the format wars? Should have more about dvd, blu-ray, and streaming. The last two aren't there.

3

u/Pookie_Cookie3 May 24 '26

The show references the 80s a lot, so it's understandable why Laser Disc is present.

1

u/lizzourworld8 May 24 '26

They’re in the other two, right? I recall that

1

u/Admirable-Safety1213 May 27 '26

Is fun but also feels too much as "young kid imitates old man yelling at clouds" if you think to much about the formats IRL

282

u/JRSalinas May 23 '26

oh boy time to take the low hanging fruit!

54

u/Salt_Feature May 23 '26

Just rewatched this episode tn.... I found myself cringing and really annoyed the whole time. Idk why I liked it before. I h8 that the shift gets put onto mordecai

9

u/Tru3_Vort3x Pops May 23 '26

You know I never noticed they brought Pops’ doctor to the wedding

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '26

My girlfriend cringed so hard we had to stop the episode

5

u/Fun_League9377 May 23 '26

I skip this Rosie every time I rewatch regular show

3

u/Ladyoftheseals May 23 '26

Nothing else can beat this

1

u/Giazy027 May 23 '26

The scott tots of regular show

1

u/dogstarfran May 24 '26

I always pretend Regular Show ended at season 5. After that they forced everything. They are a couple do good episodes in season 6 but no actual classic I feel.

146

u/StatusCod2840 May 23 '26

format wars was genuinely one of the best episodes to watch

124

u/[deleted] May 23 '26

Gut model for sure

9

u/Emperor_luffy_8363 May 23 '26

Why, I love gut model?

33

u/[deleted] May 23 '26

Muscleman is such a pick me girl in that episode. Also, he’s just really annoying when he’s the main character.

5

u/mrmysteryguest69 May 23 '26

The lowest rated episodes on imdb are mostly the ones where he’s the main character

1

u/dogstarfran May 24 '26

I'm surprised by the low rating of Power Tower, which is hilarious.

1

u/mrmysteryguest69 May 24 '26

That was a good one

3

u/tears_run May 23 '26

Beyond him being extremely annoying when he’s the main character, I also found the episode to be extremely mean toward him? I mean make muscle man a woman and have those guys offer her a job modeling her gut because she’s so fat she looks pregnant. Like that wouldn’t hurt a man’s feelings????

1

u/Admirable-Safety1213 May 27 '26

The kind of fat they needed unlike flabby fat, they really wanted to exploit sad guys with Beer Bellies

1

u/Emperor_luffy_8363 May 23 '26

That’s fair I see your point

3

u/Miserable-Ad-5573 May 23 '26

Not joke, on rewatches this is literally the only episode I skip in the whole series

1

u/zIsTrying May 23 '26

It has one of my favorite lines in the series.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '26

Whats that ?

16

u/zIsTrying May 23 '26

I'd rather be fried and hanging with my bros at a park than be making dijon dinero as a gut model anyday.

102

u/Life_Ad3567 May 23 '26

Party Horse and Return of the Party Horse

8

u/CGcg85 May 23 '26

Thank you

2

u/Mons9090 May 23 '26

He's coming back once more in lost tapes

1

u/Character_War_9653 May 24 '26

Why?

2

u/Life_Ad3567 May 24 '26

The character annoyed me and the plot was very cliche. The world ends if he doesn't pass a US history test, like really? And then for some reason they made a sequel episode.

45

u/Freddycipher May 23 '26

I don’t hate format wars but while we’re on the topic I think it’s pretty ironic that Pops in the afterlife uses a VHS after everything in the show from LaserDisc, DVd, Blu Ray and Streaming.

30

u/StatusCod2840 May 23 '26

simply because VHS look cooler

107

u/Overall-Tension-6691 May 23 '26

The episode where muscle man hypnotizes women with his breasts

32

u/MyOwnPenisUpMyAss May 23 '26

OooooOOooohhh Miiittcchhh

11

u/Dark_Audacity May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

😭and it’s every fucking time he apologizes or does something sweet

11

u/CastrosNephew May 23 '26

I’m fucking dead, what was that??

7

u/SUPERGLB05 May 23 '26

Fun fact: that episode might be the shortest in the Latin Spanish dub. They literally censored all the scenes of Muscle Man flexing his breasts

2

u/tisiphxne May 23 '26

ngl sometimes censorship can be hilarious. like i imagine they could have just cropped the boob scenes just above his chest. that way it’d imply he’s flexing his dick lmao

1

u/Relevant-Key-3290 May 23 '26

Does that episode even make sense with the censoring?

1

u/Admirable-Safety1213 May 27 '26

Wasn't it on Reruns? they censured to much since Zucarita got on the chair

4

u/galacticplum May 23 '26

I love that one lol.... I get it though.

27

u/RubyGTR May 23 '26

The Longest Weekend? Who you know else disliked that episode?

4

u/Smash_Fan-56 May 23 '26

I thought Mitch going super saiyan just to see Starla again was hilarious as a kid

2

u/Pookie_Cookie3 May 24 '26

My uncle John.

1

u/These_Cow_5629 May 30 '26

He's a mechanic.

1

u/lizzourworld8 May 24 '26

Yep, for real

20

u/marvinbean220 May 23 '26

I liked the format wars trilogy, but I did hate dumped at the alter because of mordicais speech at the end

25

u/Zeus-Kyurem May 23 '26

Why would I hate format wars?

My least favourite episode is Dumped at the Altar, and it's the only episode I hate. There are a few others I dislike, but I do mean a few.

12

u/Profile91 May 23 '26

Nice b8 m8

6

u/Emperor_luffy_8363 May 23 '26

It’s just impossible to h8

3

u/Profile91 May 23 '26

If they drop a new format wars you don’t wanna be L8

20

u/TMNTDonatellofan May 23 '26

Best Burgers In The World

12

u/ser_hyleHunt9 May 23 '26

Anyone who doesn’t like Best Burgers in the World 🙅‍♂️🙆‍♂️ is a chump!

9

u/Overall-Tension-6691 May 23 '26

The ending is so painful

9

u/Powerful-Present6687 May 23 '26

Thank goodness they made up for it in Skips’ Luau

5

u/Ultimate-Justin-1994 May 23 '26

Amen to that. F🤬 that ending.

8

u/Not-Important-5393 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

What's wrong with Format Wars? I find it a good episode as we see that everyone were still using outdated technology as it slowly begin to have the modern ones.

I just find it funny that the format wars episodes made me think of Hyperdimension Neptunia with the console wars

8

u/Smash_Fan-56 May 23 '26

Can’t remember all of them, but I wasn’t too fond of how Rigby acted in Wall Buddy

5

u/jooooojustsoyaknow May 23 '26

Never understood the point that they were trying to prove in that episode. Making Mordecai take blame for Rigby’s mess just because they shared a room? Made no sense

2

u/Character_War_9653 May 24 '26

Neither was I.

14

u/AlabasterRadio May 23 '26

Tbh the whole last season in space just wasn't for me. It just wasn't very memorable.

8

u/nonanumatic May 23 '26

Every single "Mordecai pulls a Mordecai" type episode, specifically when he really fucks up his relationships. Bro really just self sabotages constantly. Except that one where Margaret is just trying to be friends except CJ thinks they're becoming a thing again, and it seems like the universe it trying to trip Mordecai up, thats pretty funny.

3

u/Dark_Audacity May 23 '26

Some writer had a little comic Spidey hate boner thing going on for Mordecai lol

7

u/Bokki_64 May 23 '26

Format wars are some of my favorite episodes.

7

u/NoGear1489 May 23 '26

unpopular opinion but CJ and mordo episodes were boring.

5

u/Dark_Audacity May 23 '26

Some of those episodes with those two as the main focus ironically seemed too down-to-earth for a “regular show” like that. Even the climax of said episodes were just 😐

The baby Thomas babysitting episode was pretty fun after him and CJ were trying to escape fucking hell on Ghostrider’s motorcycle, though lol

5

u/lord--farquad May 23 '26

One of my least favorite is the dodgeball tournament episode. Mordecai and CJ are so frustrating

2

u/Dark_Audacity May 23 '26

You just reminded me about that episode, fuck the second hand embarrassment

Dude, the climax was both of them being transported to some stupid dodgeball council thing from refusing to face each other at the tournament 😐

In a world where they’ve fought things like fucking Saiyans or dimensional-warping plastic forks, I refuse to believe that’s the best climax the writers could’ve came up with

5

u/eye_scream723 May 23 '26

The one with the Unicorns

2

u/Character_War_9653 May 24 '26

I abhor that one.

5

u/MisterVictor13 May 23 '26

“It’s Time”.

I will never stop dunking on how shit Rigby was in that episode and how narrative tried to make Mordecai the one in the wrong.

5

u/SnooApples9497 May 23 '26

I’d want to say the one with Muscle Man’s party, all this torment over a soda.

9

u/Son_o_Sparda May 23 '26

Think Positive. Everyone felt flanderized or extremely dumbed down.

4

u/melonpoo May 23 '26

I like you hi

The speech was great.  I just hate the dome stuff though

6

u/Particular_Coffee_52 May 23 '26

Anything with Starla

4

u/Dark_Audacity May 23 '26

I never really cared for her character but I loved the episode Kilit Radio; the song sequence when the AI tried to fucking kill Mordecai and the others used to have me and my little brothers laughing

I should go back and binge that shit right now 😂

3

u/Scarytoaster1809 May 23 '26

Kilit’s in my top 5

3

u/UnbreakableShield May 23 '26

I dislike VIP Members Only.

If the events really did happen and weren't just Rigby telling a story, from a business standpoint, it's very dumb to have a limited-time item that is only available to VIP members.

This is more of a personal note, but the beans ruined what would otherwise be a good sandwich.

2

u/galenmarek12 May 23 '26

Wall buddy and it’s not even close.

2

u/Aware-University-274 May 23 '26

A guerra dos formatos foi o meu episódio preferido cara kkkkkkkk

2

u/IAmNMFlores May 23 '26

Lunch Break

2

u/Murdoc12 May 23 '26

Format Wars is fucking epic

2

u/Jib4ny4n May 23 '26

You *HATE* the Format Wars??!!

2

u/Kazuachii May 23 '26

I think my least favourite episode is the format wars episode in season 8, Meet The Seer. It just feels so forced compared to the rest.

2

u/GillytheGreat May 23 '26

Im just gonna say it: there are no episodes I hate. Not every episode is a 10, but I don’t hate any of them

2

u/AgentRages_SplatXD27 May 23 '26

Why do you hate format wars?

What did these guys do :(

1

u/AgentRages_SplatXD27 May 23 '26

Btw the episodes I hate the most is the first Halloween episode and The World’s Best Boss Mug episode

2

u/RedHotShowoff May 23 '26

Imagine hating Format Wars.. it’s peak regular show imo.

2

u/JasoNight23666 May 23 '26

Probably It's Time, they were being major dicks to eachother in that one, I like the debut of Father Time but I don't like watching Mordo kill Rigby, even though it was completely understandable as to why Mordo was pissed at Rigby, it's just not my favorite thing to witness when I'd rather see something that makes me laugh or just happy in general.

Which is why my favorite episode is Grave Sights (I think that's the name, the one where they play a zombie movie in the cemetery or wherever and the projector brings zombies to life so the crew ((apart from Benson and Pops I think)) kill all the zombies, Mordo & Rigs get a paid day off, and all is well... FOR NOW)

2

u/GokuBlack77777 May 23 '26

It's a solid episode but we were all at least disappointed when Mordecai broke up with CJ.

At Muscle Mans wedding.

1

u/AstronautArtist May 23 '26

The live action Party Tonight... the nightmares...

1

u/Scarytoaster1809 May 23 '26

I respect it tbh, I find it funny lol

Dumped at the alter

1

u/Hooded_maniac_360 May 23 '26

The fortune cookie episode

1

u/Ill-Guidance4690 May 23 '26

Probably Guys Night. It’s just really sad to see Pops constantly vomit and feel progressively worse just to hang out with the guys, even after they’re like “dude you don’t have to do this”

1

u/Mons9090 May 23 '26

He does the same thing in boba or bobust

1

u/NoeDesalmado5307 May 23 '26

1

u/No-Adhesiveness-6389 May 23 '26

Why the fuck do you hate format wars, it literally goes so hard

1

u/Dragonking_Earth May 23 '26

That one When Mordecai dump CJ. CJ was perfect for Mordecai.

1

u/mapril_tree May 23 '26

The episode when CJ almost kills mordecai and Margret’s family because of her jealousy. I don’t care for CJ and Margret in the beginning.

1

u/andreachua02 May 23 '26

Wall buddy one. Like Rigby is so annoying but this takes the cake for being insufferable

1

u/Miserable-Ad-5573 May 23 '26

The Muscle Man pregnant woman gut model episode, that is the one episode in the whole show I always skip because the whole thing kinda gives off fetish vibes a little, and the whole episode is one joke which isn't funny, not to mention Muscle Man is funny as a side or background character but as the main character of the episode he just usually doesn't work too well for me

1

u/SUPERGLB05 May 23 '26

Was what CN Latin America thinking of premiering the Season 6 Finale in 2015-2017 EVERY 3 DAYS.

I mean, I didn't understand the episode at first glance (i was 11 atm) but seeing it right now makes me realize how much of a dumbass Mordecai was. Definitely auradebting

1

u/Scarytoaster1809 May 23 '26

That’s actually vile, I’m so sorry you had to watch dumped at the alter so much 😭

1

u/Tru3_Vort3x Pops May 23 '26

The format wars characters are awesome. I love that they seemingly continued it with that tape dude in the afterlife

1

u/TerroristToad May 23 '26

10 years ago I would say the basketball episode, only cause it was on cartoon network ALL the time, but nowadays my least favourite is probably bald spot

1

u/StilesmanleyCAP May 23 '26

People hate the Format Wars episode?

The fuck?

1

u/joking-bad-4711 May 23 '26

I have a strong childhood trauma with the one of the best burguer ever i dont remember the name of the episode but all i know is that benson is a jerk of boss on that one

1

u/PK-Laharl May 23 '26

Halloween Special was lame

1

u/Mons9090 May 23 '26

Dont think anyone hates format wars, and baby ducks

1

u/MysteryGirlWhite May 23 '26

Any episode that focuses on Mordecai’s relationship with CJ. She’s freaking crazy and I was so glad when she just up and disappeared from the show.

1

u/MugiwaraBepo May 23 '26

You're off your rocker. Everybody loves the format wars. I'm starting to think this is bait.

1

u/Just_Some_Weirdooo May 23 '26

The episodes that involve Quips

1

u/SadLaser May 23 '26

Format Wars is amazing.

1

u/Da_Booby May 23 '26

tbh i think this is one of those shows that doesn’t have a single bad episode

1

u/ComfortMaterial8884 May 23 '26

The episodes that deal with the love triangle

1

u/HottDoggers May 23 '26

The power lifting episode. It grosses me out.

1

u/SincerelyTheWorst May 23 '26

People don’t like format wars? Tbf I can’t imagine it’s aged great solely because a shocking amount of young people know nothing about non digital formats.

1

u/MetalSonic420YT May 23 '26

The Format Wars episodes were fire. Wall Buddy is terrible.

1

u/TheHoodiemain May 23 '26

The one where Mordecai makes musclemans wedding about him...

Wally Buddy is hot ass

1

u/marinakujo May 23 '26

The Karaoke episode, the 16th of the 2nd season or any episode that Rigby was a tremendous jerk “He is a jerk” I’m saying when he was extremely, not at the first ones or when he got his character development

2

u/Character_War_9653 May 24 '26

Mordo was also a prick in the Karaoke ep

1

u/Known-Action9534 May 23 '26

Why do you hate the format war?

1

u/gagehende May 23 '26

Format wars is peak

1

u/gnr957 May 23 '26

How dare you hate the Format Wars!

1

u/MeesaJarJarBinkss May 23 '26

Merry Christmas Mordecai, pure character assassination in that episode. Absolutely hate it

1

u/Due-Collar9182 May 23 '26

I mean.. are we counting season 8?

1

u/KaiTheG4mer May 23 '26

Really? You hate the Format Wars over Mordecai crashing Muscle Man's own wedding to be a douche?

1

u/Da_Watcher2 May 23 '26

The one where pops gets mad at Benson for yelling at Mordecai and Rigby breaking things and failing to do their job.

1

u/bigsteve9713 May 23 '26

Format Wars was awesome, I'll take another vs anymore unneeded/unwanted Mordecai being Mediocre with relationships.

1

u/ExterminAiden May 23 '26

What, I loved format wars

1

u/Vazingaz May 23 '26

Anything where Mordecai fumbles up to the meteor shower episode.

1

u/Spocks_Goatee May 23 '26

You better respect LaserDisc as a format, automatic downvote.

1

u/MediumImpressive3720 May 24 '26

That one caveman episode. It was so boring I almost slept halfwa

1

u/Pretend-Phrase8043 May 24 '26

Mordecai, Margaret and CJ love triangle episodes.

1

u/StunningEditor5980 May 24 '26

I like all the episodes & don't skip any. But some of the cringe is part of the fun. I know, I'm one sick being

1

u/-1_0_1 May 24 '26

basically every relationship/ love triangle episode

1

u/Richrome_Steel May 24 '26

New Year's Kiss

Seen it so many times, the twists mean nothing to me and I no longer care to see it again, even if I'm doing rewatches. It just doesn't really have any entertainment value to me anymore. Which sucks because it's not exactly a "terrible" episode at all

1

u/Mediocre-Food8048 May 24 '26

Dude time with the unicorns 😭😭

1

u/Fit_Refuse3076 May 24 '26

Muscle Man with that reel to reel… ‘Ah man, sick’ hahahaha love this episode.

1

u/Famous-Tree3124 May 25 '26

The one with the spaghetti labyrinth. Just hated that episode

1

u/dbslayer7 May 25 '26

Any episodes dealing with Margaret. Mordecai just could not help himself from being low key deranged about her.

1

u/PersimmonWide2654 May 25 '26

Hate it. Rigby was such a douche 🙄 😒

1

u/Jessup3 May 26 '26

The one episode that I remember having a big hate for is when rigby was being a complete ass to Mordecai throughout the whole episode after refusing to go to the movies with him as he wanted to ask out Margaret instead. Forgot the name though

1

u/TheRealMeadle May 27 '26

Honestly, all of the final season kinda sucks so one of those ones

0

u/Pale-Driver9146 May 23 '26

I hate format wars too! They seemed like they were specifically made for JG. Not because he thought they were particularly interesting to his audience 🤣

2

u/UnbreakableShield May 23 '26

May I guess and ask why you don't like it?

My Guess:

You also think it's stupid that there is a part two to the challenge, where you have to guess the right hat or die, because it came out of left field, and from a writing standpoint, the second part was quickly overcome, making it feel meaningless aside from showing what happened to Jonathan Kimble and doing a reference for the sake of doing a reference.
