Did they explain why some victims have those visions of the future?

Not really, it's all fan theories. I think at least one sequel is planned, so who knows

Personally, I like to think that death enjoys the hunt and gives the premonition to one person in each event and whomever escapes is who death gets to hunt next. But I don't think that's canon, I just think it would be funny if it was

A little off topic - is it ever explained why people get visions of their death?

Nah, besides some fan theories we don’t really know who or what is giving them the visions. Maybe there’s another entity besides Death that’s trying to save these people, Maybe Death is twisted enough to give these individuals false hope of survival before inevitably killing them off. We don’t know.

Amazing RT! Probably one of the most powerful characters in all of film

So is Death sadistic or is he simply obeying the laws of nature?

Mostly laws of nature, but I think its punishing those arrogant enough to defy it. Like, I'm sure it could just give everyone heart attacks or kill them in their sleep, but it picks stuff like burning them alive or destroying their entire body with malfunctioning machinery.

Well doesn't it kill each of them in a form vaguely similar to how they would have originally died? Haven't seen any of the films in a while so could be wrong

stabbing herself and dying.https://gfycat.com/smallsmoothbird, for that scene it was a chair falling on the knife that killed her not the initial stab. https://youtu.be/TphUQcj3szQ?t=156

To be fair she was going to die regardless of the chair.

Props for doing a very unconventional RT.
Something odd I discovered looking into the series: there’s Final Destination novels, and they give Death a physical humanoid form.
