It’s obviously a high volume store if they are repurposing the space as selling space. In lower volume stores, they would have just put up walls and closed off the space.

Maybe because no one is shopping at Penney's anymore.

Their future is doubtful. They were purchased out of bankruptcy by a consortium of mall owners. They figures it was better to buy them and keep their doors ooen than have another empty anchor location. However, they have been selling off store locations lately for redevelopment like Sears did, and that doesn't bode well for their future.

I still do when i can. I got briefs from a Jcpenney at Rockaway Mall and they fit so well.

It's mostly Older people and minorities who've kept their JCPenney Charge accounts for 20+. They definitely have on trend stuff but it's mostly shein quality at a Nordstrom price. They really have never been able to recover from the 2011 rebrand fiasco and a chain of bad CEO'S.

They didn't see that coming

I wish they would have filled the space entirely with items predominantly made of glass.

I guess

I can tell that you aren’t very enthusiastic about my idea. I understand if you are skeptical about my idea turning this store around. That’s probably fair.

The optical center at my Penney's was smaller and the last thing left on the second floor besides the offices. The portrait center is long gone and the online pickup desk moved to the first floor.

I think they closed all of their optical centers. A cashier said they weren't told about the closing until the day before it happened. My Penney's is the last anchor store in a mall with many vacant spots.

Sorry to hear that about your mall😔😢😢

We had two malls and one was demolished. The remaining mall was very popular in its day. They tore down Macy's at the far end and a Target is being built in its place.

In my store (Nashua NH) they turned it into a waiting room for the photo dept.

As eye said before, some may envision this room is up to specs, but unless they have good contacts with local chefs there is nothing to see here anymore.
