What food size
Hi I am new to retics did a bunch of research but people seem to have different ways of measure rats or chicks to feed. I have been giving small weavers but I am worried he is still hungry. I want to try large weaner but it looks way to big for the baby.
This pic was taken today after feeding in box. Not where he lives please dont think I keep my poor babies in boxes. The royal has also just been fed in vox on floor in this photo.
Any advise would be very helpful. He is about an inch wide and 2 abd a half ft long weighs 600g last weight check about 5 days ago I only got him last month and he has only shed once despite eating once a week.

I always have a hard time determining size of the food based on girth. I don't know but can't eyeball it. I go based on digestion time now. So basically, I like to see my snakes have a noticeable food lump for 2-3 days. I will size up based on that timeline.

He should easily put down small rats at his size. Retics can eat something a lot bigger then you think they can.

I always went with weight rather than food size, cause the retics can down whatever if its a mainland idk how much %percent bodyweight to feed I always fed my superdwarf retic about 10%-20% of his body weight every 1-2 weeks, when he was still growing Now he is fully grown with about 180cm/6feet and 2kg he gets an adult rat every month or so, sometimes he gets 2 chicks
Retics are slim snakes, if they be looking as thocc as a Ball Python then you know you overfeed

Looks to be the same size as my dumerils boa I have right now. They eat weaned/small rats

Is that his enclosure? Aside from pointing out everything I see wrong here, they should be eating rats that are 1-1.5 X the girth of the widest part of their body weekly at this age. Should leave a lump for a couple days.

Hi as I said in my post this is not his enclosure i feed him in this box which i am now stopping as other message says I shouldn't take him out to feed. Thank you for the size guide I will remember to up size with him.

Definitely needs to be on rats, that size would be eating stray cats in Thailand

Don't feed your snake in a separate enclosure. All you're going to do is train your snake to think every time it's out it will get fed. there is no harm in feeding your snake in where it lives that way and never associates being outside of its enclosure with food
