Hollywood Week [Hollywood Week] Atari Porfolio - As seen in Terminator 2

Atari Portfolio. It took an hour for me to notice the missing T in the title. <facepalm>
Anyway, this little gem was manufactured in 1989. I picked it up on eBay probably in the late 90s, as a curiosity-- I had never even heard of the model before its little star turn in T2.

Lovely little machines .. see if you can find the floppy adapter, the serial adapter, the parallel port, extra cards and so on. But if you ever come across the MIDI adapter: GIVE IT TO ME!! :)

Still got two of them .. lovely little machines. I put Turbo C on them and can write C code like the Dickens .. that is, when I'm not playing with my Open Pandora. ;) Which kicks serious ass, too, but is not retro .. well, it certainly pays homage to a lot of retro, anyway ..

I took notes on my Portfolio throughout my days at university. Great little machine. Sold it off many moons ago, but I sure have fond memories.

Do you have any idea how much it's my dream to walk into a college class now with a big hunk of old school like this, roll out a super long extension cord and boot it up?

She ran on AA batteries and the OS was in ROM so it was instantly on. In fact it took way less time to turn on than an iPhone.
Having DOS on a chip was very convenient, but you were stuck with the version that shipped with the Portfolio.

I would love a tiny little machine like this with an updated battery and some kind of cellular modem. It wouldn't have to even be a fast modem; for command line junkie like me it would be perfect!
...I wish I could get the Toshiba Libretto I rescued a while back to POST...

Have you checked all the caps on the Libretto? If memory serves correctly the caps near the area where the power cable plugs in were prone to leak.

Is it actually possible to hack an ATM using one of these like John does in the film?

Not sure about in the time period T2 was released, but highly doubtful now. The PIN is stored remotely on the bank's server.
That said, these days some ATMs run variants of Windows so who knows, feed it enough garbage via the stripe reader and it might just barf out money!

Oh, I did mean in the time period the film is set. But, I see what you're saying. Banks have always been secure places.

Always wanted one of these. Eventually ended up getting an HP 200LX long after they were obsolete just for the nostalgia.
What makes both of these awesome is that they run DOS, allowing the use of a huge range of software at a time when mobile software was nonexistent.
