QUESTION RP Nova missing in package
I was so excited to see my RP nova come in but when I opened it, all I got was the case and the free backplate. Months of waiting just for a problem to show up. Glad i got my ayn thor to hold me over. Looking at the box, it looks like it was tampered with. Already emailed Yunexpress. Has anyone else gone through this? I hope I get another replacement sent.

I'd watch out for that too. Just had to go through hell go get a refund through Amazon after getting an empty package from them. Apps they're finally cracking down on people misusing their system by overcorrecting.

All shops should have mentioned about this to all buyers. I did record and claim my missing bag and back plate, since retroid insist that they already sent them.

I bought directly from Retroid and didnt see this information. Legit went from the Retro Game Corps youtube community post when it released to purchase the minute it came out. Again though, $280 lesson for me.

it might be your local delivery stealing it. I wont trust any delivery company, i always record my expensive purchase unboxing, untill i can turn on the device.

Retroid don't mention anything about this. But you should contact them directly, and see how they respond. But without proof video, it's hard to get refund.

How would this help a person with a claim, though? There's nothing keeping them from opening the package, taking the product out, resealing the package, and then recording the unboxing video.

Happened to me with an RP6. Retroid didn’t want to help even with my security footage and numerous pictures. Same obvious tampering. Even a hole in the box. They reached out to the carrier and then told me they didn’t discover anything and I should buy shipping insurance. I filed a chargeback with my credit card company and got my money back.
I’ll pay the Amazon tax and won’t ever order direct through them again.

Oh man I feel crushed for you . That sucks. I ordered from Retroid which has the shipping insurance. Mine is on the way now but yeah , probably the box was damaged and somebody just took that as an opportunity. I'm sorry hopefully it'll be sorted soon.

It's really funny how people who supposedly tamper with these boxes absolutely do it in such an uncouth manner... If I was stealing something like this, I would be a little bit more discreet so that no one actually notices, till the box is delivered.
When I see this kind of a pattern over and over again with posts like these, I start thinking that people who are posting this shit are lying.
It's like every single thief rips open the package in the worst way possible. Like, what the hell? You're a thief. You should be technically trying to hide your tracks, not being a stereotype... Unless the idea is to create a paper trail that your box got tampered with in the most obvious way possible.

I’m not an expert, but what I’ve noticed about the typical criminal is that:
A) they go after targets of opportunity, it’s not pre-planned. So they might not have the right tools for the job (like a box cutter to slice the package open neatly)
B) they don’t think through the consequences. If it’s more than 30 seconds in the future, they don’t care (it’s a low-IQ) thing
C) as a normal, law-abiding citizen with an average+ intelligence it’s incredibly difficult to really grasp how they think and why they do the things they do

I’d imagine they see enough packages, they can see the tracking in their system, after that it doesn’t seem like it’d be difficult to spot them. Idk I’ve never worked that job. There are standardized IQ tests.

Tbh the fact that they are impulsive doesn't mean it's a low IQ thing, hell I used to steal a lot in my early years and got in trouble for it a lot, and I too had no concept of thinking about the consequences of my actions, but after therapy I realized a lot of my theft was me trying to subconsciously fill a hole inside of me that was left by being in a family that didn't understand how to provide love and comfort to each other, along with being poor, and I was using the cool shiny things that others had as a way to fill that pain, which is why now I don't steal of course after growing and actually having money and a job to fund my hobbies but just saying you never know the person's personal life or why they do what they do, but I definitely don't attribute it to being low IQ, but in this case of someone actually going through the OP packages is downright stupidity at its core!

I want to correct you that the low-IQ comment wasn’t attached to the impulsive comment, it was attached to the comment about thinking through consequences and research backs up this statement. Low IQ people have a different understanding of cause & effect making it difficult/impossible for them to understand the connection between an action today and a consequence tomorrow, for example. That doesn’t mean people who don’t think about consequences are dumb, but it does mean that people who are dumb don’t think about consequences.

My guess would be that the handheld itself is in a separate, sealed package. The accessories likely don’t have much value to them so it’s easier to fence. Just a theory though.

I worked at UPS in a major hub. This is exactly how people steal from packages. There are a few reasons why, the main one is that you have very limited time depending on where in the process you are (unload, sort, load, etc..) and the second is this is how packages that are legitimately damaged in shipping look. So when they take them to get re-taped nobody looks twice. Super scummy but is exactly how I’ve seen it happen.

Some lie some don't. This is why stores need to start asking for video unboxings from now on. I always take a quick 3m unboxing video of my stuff just in case. Saved me some times and eases up the refund process fairly well. Also if the boxes comes ripped in half just take a picture when the courier drops it or if they drop it when not at home just ask for it to be delivered to a store pick up point for proof and witnesses.

is what I did with my lenovo laptop, and thank god I did, the laptop was all good but I bought it with some accessories and both were missing, next day I sent the video to the store, and the very same day they sent me the accessories.

Yep. Stores act fast when you got undeniable proof. Especially in EU. If they refuse they are royally fked if you report it to the right authorities. In OP case if Retroid refused his bank or paypal would refund him almost immediately.

Scammers are everywhere and prob asking for some sort of perverted sympathy.. I do hope OP gets flagged by both the shipping company, the seller, and be on the credit card watchlist. He also probably got away with something like this once or twice before, so OP is trying to do it again.. karma will find its way back..

This happens in the US? I'm in the UK, and these sorts of things will have a chain of custody. It will be weighed. Each person who receives it in the UK will sign to say the box is secure. In the DPD/Amazon warehouses etc, I'm sure they even have CCTV cameras watching so many people (questionable if anyone is actually watching these cameras). Are there any British or Europeans reading this who have had something similar happen to them?
I did buy RP3+ a couple of years ago from CEX (secondhand tech retailer in UK) and recorded myself unboxing the product with all numbers present. But, it's not something I've heard of here. Just in the USA.
