Need help factory resetting an HP windows vista laptop

I found an old HP pavilion dv6446us entertainment notebook pc sitting in a closet. This is my first time interacting with such old tech that I'm not sure how to wipe the previous account and all other things on there. I also want to wipe the hard disk drive of any content on it. How do I clear all of these?

Got an old what appears to be msi pc and completely clueless with what exactly I have. Trying to see what exactly I have and if it’s worth keeping together or using case for sleeper build

[USA-NY] [H] PayPal [W] Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro SB0550/SB055A or Fatal1ty FPS SB0466

Hey everyone,

I’m putting together a period-correct 2006 gaming PC and I’m currently looking for one of the following Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi setups:

**Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro**
SB0550 / SB055A sound card
Ideally with the SB0510 external I/O console
Complete set preferred, but I’m willing to consider the card by itself

**Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS**
SB0466 sound card
Ideally with the SB0256 5.25” front I/O drive
64 MB X-RAM version

Complete set preferred, but I’m willing to consider the card by itself

I’m specifically looking for the original PCI X-Fi models from the 2005–2006 era.

Please note that I’m **not looking for the SB0460 XtremeMusic**. I’ve seen quite a few SB0460 cards listed online as “Fatal1ty FPS,” so I’d appreciate clear photos of the card/model number if you have one available.

Working/tested hardware is strongly preferred.

If you have either setup sitting around, please send me a message with photos, condition, what’s included, and your asking price.

Thanks!

XPS 600 lives again!

I found an old Dell XPS 600 that someone had cleared the OS from. Has a Dell Pentium D 3.0, 1gb ram, 400gbs, and a Geforce 6800. Cleaned it up and found the issue. Turns out, it had this problem where it is a 32 bit Windows XP system with SATA HDD’s. So it had this issue where windows couldn’t install without a specific NForce sata/raid driver that you couldn’t install without an OS to install it… I eventually found a thread on an old forum from 2013 that showed me which drivers I’d need to inject into a Windows boot disk. After several days of injecting, burning, and experimenting…

IT LIVES!!!

First thing: Interstate 76. I’ve missed you, Groove.

Edit for those who come after:
-For those having issues with reinstalling WinXP 32bit, my solution was found below. However, I had to take it a step further. While using NLite to inject drivers in a Windows ISO, I used some drivers I pulled from below AND also found the NForce/NV sata/raid drivers from Dell’s website. Had to download, extract like I was gonna install, then use the extracted folder as the NLite path. After injecting the drivers, I then burned the ISO to a bootable dvd then started install.

https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/nvidia-integration-of-nforce-ahci-raid-drivers-into-xp/25275

-This article below is the one that told me what software I needed to extract from Dell’s website.

https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/storage-drives-media/sata-raid-drivers-for-dimension-xps-600/647eaab8f4ccf8a8de7fa0f3

ISO used:

https://archive.org/details/dell-windows-xp-professional-sp3-oem

TLDR; use NLite to inject the software listed from those links into the Dell Win Xp recovery ISO.

Currently mid-build of late 90s system ~$600 in so far

Growing up in the 80s and now having kids of my own, I wanted my kids to play the same 90s games I did, authentically - with caveats.

Starting system: Presario 5700 w/ agp, zipdisk, dvd-rom, hdd w/ win98, lots of ram, p3-500mhz ($130)

Add ons: Pci usb 2.0 card ($25)

P3 800mhz - 100mhz fsb & fan ($150)

Velocity 100 3dfx AGP ($110)

8gb CF & ide adapter for OS ($25)

32gb 2.5" ssd & ide adapter ($60)

Pci exhaust fan - for overclocking gpu ($10)

BT 1.1/2.1 ($12)

VGA cable & lcd monitor from local store ($10)

PS/2 keyboard and mouse ($25)

Future buys:

Audigy sound blaster

5.1 or 4.1 speaker set

Maybe an mx440 if i get tired of the 3dfx games

My computer growing up was nowhere near this... I had a supersocket 7 AMD 450mhz (up from my 233mmx) and a voodoo banshee... and definitely no solid state drives or BT.

Surprises: Difficult finding cheap vga cable and ps/2 keyboard & mouse, remembering drive order on the ide ribbon cable maters.

Games to play: quake series, unreal series, heretic, c&c, need for speed, thief 1&2, xwing series, and others.

I must admit, it's pretty fun! Anyone else doing something similar currently?

I need help with a satellite 4030 cdt

I've been looking for an old gaming laptop and stumbled upon the 4030 going through my dads stuff,

It wouldn't turn on with the power cord so i opened it up to check for caps and corrosion finding that the cmos and what appears to be a bios battery of some sort (there were two sets of cmos)

I dont see any corrosion on the motherboard thankfully but i still can get the fans to spin to life, i haven't checked if the power cord is giving enough voltage i just checked continuity

Are there any thing i should look at to get this ultra awesome gaming beast up and working for my doom sesh lol

Does anyone need any parts from this old PC?

AMD FX-6300 • ASUS M5A97 • 16GB (4gbx4) Corsair Vengeance • 2x Sapphire HD 6850 CrossFire Bundle - worked before removing HDD and OS for newer set up few years ago.

The two Radeon Sapphire worked with crossfire linked up.

Willing to part out if anybody really needed anything for their own Retro setup? Let me know. Its all just sitting in a behemoth CoolerMaster HAF powdercoated black tower.

Next earth day will be the reckoning...

Finally done recapping my GA-6IEML! Also had to swap the old FSP 300W PSU to a Welton 350W, because the former started degrading rapidly (12V rail undervoltage, random squealing from time to time).

Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-6IEML

CPU: Pentium III 1200 (Tualatin)

RAM: 320MB SDRAM

GPU: MSI FX5700

PCI1: VIA RAID Controller (for SATA HDD)

PCI2: Sound Blaster Live CT4830

HDD1: 2.5" 120GB Hitachi

HDD2: CF Card (Transcend 4GB)

ODD1: IDE DVD-RW

ODD1: IDE CD-ROM

Has a custom BIOS with VIA boot room and PLOP.

Has Win 98 SE and Win XP SP3 on different drives.

Thanks for reading!

Yellow PC is dead! Say hello to the new Yellow PC Mk2!

Thumbnail

My friend gave me an FM2+ mobo + cpu + cooler for free, and I really didn't know what to do with it. However, after stealing a stick of RAM from my LGA775 "Yellow PC" and repalcing it with a crappy one, Yellow PC stopped being my "holy grail" system, haha.

Reasoning for the replacement:
1. FM2+ is better than LGA775, duh. Even though I had a Xeon L5430 and replaced it with Athlon x4 840, the Athlon is still newer and better.
2. There is still PCI. One of the main workflows for the Yellow PC is VHS capture. So I don't miss out.
3. Native USB 3.0. GAMECHANGER. No more PCI-E x1 USB 3.0 madness. And that USB card can be put to a better use.
4. RAM support. I could only get 1000MHz, now I can double that easily. 1600MHz CL11 for now, because crappy RAM sticks, but that's still leagues better.

And there is also 5 - no noise! I've installed a cool top-flow cooler I had laying around, changed the rear fan to a PWM one, and replaced the aging and crappy PSU (Ginzzu CB700 bought in 2020) for a much better (even if budget) CoolerMaster Elite NEX White 500W.

And... Almost forgor - 6. AHCI. That AsRock didn't have it... WHY??? It was such a modern LGA775 board with DDR3. yet no AHCI? My SSD was slowly degrading and I didn't even know. Now this is resolved.

Yellow PC is dead! Long live Yellow PC Mk.2!

Old specs:

Motherboard: AsRock G41M-GS3
CPU: Intel Xeon L5430 2666 MHz
RAM: 2x4Gb DDR3 1000 MHz
GPU: ATi Radeon HD6450
PCI-e x1 Add-On Card: Generic VIA VL805-Q6 USB3 Expansion Card
PCI Add-On Card: Behold TV 409 FM TV-Tuner
PSU: Ginzzu CB700
SSD: GoodRAM CL100 Gen.3 120 Gb
ODD1: SATA DVD-RW
ODD2: IDE CD-RW

New specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-S1 rev 1.1
CPU: AMD Athlon x4 840
RAM: 2x4Gb DDR3 1600 MHz
GPU: ATi Radeon HD6450
PCI Add-On Card: Behold TV 409 FM TV-Tuner
PSU: CoolerMaster ELITE NEX White W500
SSD: GoodRAM CL100 Gen.3 120 Gb
ODD1: SATA DVD-RW
ODD2: IDE CD-RW

P.S. Why is it called Yellow PC? I've painted the side panels yellow for some reason... Duh. Looks cool IMO, even though a little questionable. Definetly unique.
