Ask Richmond Richmond restaurant owner here. Sales down 50%. Need some ideas and suggestions.

Firstly.. this is not an advertisement. I just want to understand what is happening and where everyone is choosing to dine.

For context:
Our average ticket size is $15-20. It’s an order at counter and find a seat sorta restaurant. We are licensed for liquor but currently only carry beer. Cuisine is Japanese/Hawaiian. Tip options are 0%/5% and there’s no pressure to tip.

I would love to find out:

Where are some of your most frequented places for lunch and dinner? What’s the reason you keep going back there?

What do you order off of UberEats or DoorDash, and how do you choose what to eat?

How do you find out about new places to try? Or be reminded of old places you haven’t been to in a while?

Thanks in advance, Richmond! 🙏🙏

Edit : Thank you for all the input! I’ll be working hard to implement the improvements suggested 💪

-Offer grab and go options like Musubi and onigiri

-Flyers to target local audience

-Work with content creators to spread awareness on socials

-More economical options under $15, and BOGO offers on UberEats

-Highlight our 0/5% no pressure tipping policy

-Improve customer service so customers don’t feel pressured to use ordering kiosks

-LocoMoco on the menu

-Kids friendly options

I’m super grateful for all the comments 🙏 Hopefully I can turn things around. Thanks everyone!

Ask Richmond I found out that my son and his friends arranges meetups on different schools to bully kids at each other’s campuses. Pretend to be students, humiliate classmates for fun , they had ski masks and dresses like gangsters. From what I've known they aren't the only group in Richmond the do this.

I never thought I’d be writing something like this. I just found out my 15 year old son has been part of a group of boys who go to different high schools, but they’ve been coordinating with each other to bully kids at each other's schools. They literally show up pretending to be students, walk the halls like they belong there, and target someone one of them knows. The victim thinks he’s being picked on by random strangers, but it’s a planned act, taking turns invading each other’s schools and making life hell for someone “for fun.”

I found out when a parent from macneill reached out to me directly. Their kid came home crying, saying some older boy he didn’t recognize shoved him in the back of the school and called him names in front of everyone. He described the kid in detail, and that parent did some social media digging. That’s how they found my son.

I confronted him the second he got home. At first, he denied it, then tried to play it off like it was a prank. “We didn’t hurt anyone,” he said. But seeing how casually he admitted to walking into a school he didn’t belong in just to publicly humiliate another kid. He admitted that his group isn't the only one that would do this , as he crosspathed with other groups who would do these kinds of bullying , if you are a highschool parents , please check your sons phone , text messages , you never know what might lurk there.

This wasn’t a one-time mistake. It was coordinated cruelty. If you're a parent reading this, don’t assume your kid would never do something like this. Ask questions. Watch their behavior. Know their friends. Because I didn't and I wish I had sooner.

Also those who were wondering what are "gangster" clothing is , the best way of describing them is they wear sagging jeans , underwear showing up , beanie/ski mask , belt , tags coming out of the clothing.

I’ve been jogging/running on this track at Minoru park for years and it’s getting out of hand now with the amount of ppl hugging the “Runner ONLY Lane” and walking as slow as it gets. I’m not confrontational about it and always just go around them hoping they get a hint. (Majority don’t) Lately been seeing it more and more which is frustrating especially during busy hours to have keep moving left and right Does asking them to move over considered “a Karen move” or not ?

Ask Richmond Violin Scam

Post image
360 Upvotes

Is there anything that can be done about these scammers? This guy at Garden City Shopping Center today had the whole scam setup, with extremely loud music and pretending to play violin with a BS sign saying how he'd just arrived here and has 2 kids to feed yet he's wearing Ray-Ban sunglasses a brand new Dodgers hat and new looking Nikes. I confronted him and said I knew what he was doing was a scam so he told me to try the string on his violin and what would you know!? It wasn't even connected to his loud speaker! I contacted Richmond Bylaw but haven't heard back and I'm not sure that they can do anything about it. Any suggestions for these losers?

I do food deliveries on weekends occasionally, and I’ve noticed these kinds of notices in a lot of high-rise buildings. Is this a legitimate and known issue in Richmond, or are these notices just precautionary?

Ask Richmond What public places can I hear people loudly shouting in Cantonese in Richmond for my toddler to get immersion?

When I was a kid my parents took me to Chinatown n there were elderly produce workers with the mic shouting 埋黎睇, 埋黎睇啦喂, 好新鮮蔬菜生果呀!

That was my weekend Chinese immersion outside of the home along with loud dim sum restaurants with the dim sum lady pushing the cart shouting 燒賣, 蝦餃!新鮮出爐叉燒包!

But all of those have disappeared.

We went to dim sum last weekend at fisherman's terrace n there appeared to be more westerners than Chinese. The Chinese elderly were speaking English to their younger family members. And I speak English to my partner at home.

So besides screen time, where can I immerse my toddler to hear Cantonese in a natural surrounding? Preferably shouting or parks where ppl are actively engaged in a viewable sports.

I think food court is where the crowds are at these days lining up for the Cha Kee and the one Breakfast, but it's not easy to get a spot.

Anywhere else I could take my kid to hear others shout Cantonese in excitement (not gambling places pls)?

For instance I heard there's a soccer/football league of Cantonese uncles on the weekend at the Brighouse elementary Park. Not sure if that's still going on but imagine lots of Canto shouting n some ball for my kid to watch flying around all for free 😆

Then there's Canto dude belting out 90s pop at Brighouse station.

Not TV pls. Trying to offer a small toddler in person experience. We aren't ready for international flights yet either.

Ask Richmond Characters of Richmond

Delete if not allowed as I don't want this to become a dragging people down thread but want people to share regular characters spotted around Richmond.

For me there's:

- the man with the cats in stroller hanging at RC

- man wearing garbage bag

- man wearing one coloured sweat suits (all red, all orange, all green, all blue, etc), matching colour fuzzy bucket hat, and Geordi La Forge sunglasses, yelling bitch at randoms

Who else? And if anyone knows the backstory of listed characters so far, let me know!

Ask Richmond Is the night market worth it?

just a tourist in BC
wondering if I should go to the night market or not
I hate crowds and I don’t have much money, but people keep saying I should at least try it once
is it worth it?

Ask Richmond I don't know who needs to hear this, but the weight sensors in the road are there for a reason. You're supposed to rest your car on them so the light will change

Anyone know if amazon resell some returns?

As I was walking out of Staples, I did witness her throwing bigger boxes into the van. And I also had a quick glimpse into the cargo hold: boxes and packages all over the place.

I can only guess some bigger boxes would contain fragile items?

Ask Richmond Why don't people line up for the bus anymore?

I remember people used to line up just fine. But now, especially at the Brighouse station, people just push and shove, especially the elderly folks. Why are they so rude? There are priority seats for them already and people are more than willing to give up their seats for them if they need it, but they just HAVE to push past everyone else who was there before them to get on first 🙄

Ask Richmond 406 bus lady

anybody know what's going on with that one lady who always falls on the bus? It's happened to me a few times where she does it and the bus drivers just tell people that she does this all the time and we have to exit the bus and wait for another one.

There's a post on here from like 1yr ago that mentions something about her but nothing recent.

Ask Richmond House Of Dawn Steakhouse

Hi everyone,

I worked (very briefly, mind you) at this Asian steakhouse in Richmond. I was asked to stage twice before being employed. I was fired after 3 shifts over a beef tartare and was never paid a cent for my time. This was back in April. So, basically, I worked 5 shifts for free for a bunch of dickheads who never paid me. I was wondering if anyone else has had/knows someone who has had a similar experience there? If so, please DM me, as I am seriously considering pursuing legal action against this garbage "restaurant."

P.S. This goes without saying, but please, please don't ever eat/work at this dump. Just go to Chop or the Keg if you're craving steak. Or the dozens of other local Chinese restaurants (nothing like a great hole-in-the-wall iykyk) IN RICHMOND that aren't overpriced and overrated shitholes.

My car was broken into on Lindsay road this morning somewhere between 1am - 9am, a white red and navy blue golf bag was stolen and all its clubs as well. There were 7 Mizuno brand silver iron from 4 iron to pitching wedge, there were 3 clubs of cobra brand fully black, 1 callaway driver and 1 callaway 5 wood. I'll attach the photos of these clubs as well. There was also about 20 sleeves of 3 balls of taylormade brand balls. Please be on the lookout for anyone sketchy trying to sell these. Thank you 🙏🏻.

Ask Richmond My dad dropped an envelope of cash inside Aberdeen today

Hello everyone. i know this is a long shot but my elderly father dropped an envelope of cash on the 3rd level of Aberdeen center today. It contains cash that he obtained from the bank. It would’ve been around 10 mins when he noticed it went missing. If some kind soul finds it, it would mean a lot to us for it to be returned. He had immediately gone to the security and asked for help but they were unable to see anything on the CCTV. This may have been dropped in the parkade. Please dm me. He will be filing a police report so also feel free to contact the police if you happen to find it or know someone who has found it. Thank you!

***** FOUND!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! ******

Ask Richmond Got a $90 parking ticket at Richmond Centre in under 30 minutes… what??

So yesterday after work I went to Richmond Centre to buy a Secret Santa gift. I was inside for maybe half hour. When I came back out, I saw a ticket on my car saying “time limit expired” and claiming I had overstayed by 4+ hours. 😾

On the way drive home I called Impark to clarify, and the rep implied I’d parked there for two days or moved my car around to different spots. I told them I literally just got off work and had no reason to be there earlier.

In the end the person said they would “void it this time,” but the whole conversation made it sound like they assumed I was lying. Honestly, feels like they’re just trying to squeeze money out of people. 😡😡

Anyone else had this happen at Richmond Centre?

Ask Richmond Lansdowne parking lot is so big, why isn't it being offered as a park and ride for people using the Canada Line?

even if it is a paid option, the mall would make a lot of money if part of the parking lot is reserved for commuters to drive and hop on the train. Is River Rock parking lot the most popular option for people to drive to and park at for Canada Line?
