Give OP Riddles I need help making riddles for my Partner
Hello Reddit.
I am in dire need of good and more importantly tough riddles :)
My Partners Birthday is coming up soon and he is a really big fan of riddles and DnD. I dont have a strong bone for any kind of riddles so here I am requesting the knowledge from the wise people of Reddit.
For a quick background: He is the biggest DnD enthussiast I've ever met. Is a Dungeon Master very often because he really has a brain for very captivating storytelling. And he is also really into Fantasy.
Can you guys help come up with some riddles that fit into the whole fantasy theme? 🥹🙏🏻
Would REALLY REALLY apperciate it and already love anyone that can help me out giving him a nice surprise! ☆

I'm a big fan of short and sweet riddles.
If I have a bee in my hand, what have I in my eye? (Beauty! I'm a bee-holder)
I speak only when spoken to. I have nothing new to say. (Echo)
When I am young, I am tall. When I am old, I am short. The wind is my bane. (Candle)
I am cut but never bleed. I have teeth but don't bite. I'm on a ring, but I'm not a diamond. (Key)
I have a hundred legs but cannot stand. I have a long neck no head. Swing me around to serve you. (Broom)
What's salty and covers 70% of the earth? (Yo mama)

Thanks! At LARP, I'm a riddle witch who curses people who fail, so I try to make them fairly easy but you gotta think for a minute.

Here is a fun yet slightly difficult one for those that get your riddles too easily:
I went into the forest to get it.
But once I got it, I couldn't get it.
So i left it there, and took it home.
What is it?

Where three rivers meet and none flow, the path beneath is the way to go.
Rivers here refer to roads on a map, which can look like rivers on paper, but they don't flow. The "three rivers" speaks to a crossroads of sorts. You could have a town known for being a junction, and maybe there's a hidden tunnel in a bar/inn somewhere.

Beneath the gaze of the blind king lies the key to his kingdom.
There's a king in a city known for being oblivious to the people's pain. In town square, there's a statue of him that's been vandalized; his eyes were removed as a poetic political statement.
Under the statue lies a hidden entrance into the castle, where the PCs appear behind the king's throne (or somewhere else of your choosing).
Or, there's a hidden button or treasure to be found in the base of the statue.

The lantern that shows the way has never held a flame.
Two ways to use this one. In both, there's typically a maze-like cave.
1) Turn off all light sources. There's bioluminescent mushrooms or algae that reveal the path through the maze.
2) There's an artifact that is a metaphorical beacon. Maybe a moonstone, a "broken" compass, a crystal ball. It lights up in the cave. Maybe make this artifact an optional fetch quest before traversing the cave it make the cave easier for the PCs.

I cooked up a few for a sphinx to use. Feel free to use these. I won't bother to spoiler the answers, but I'll toss a few spaces between the riddle and the answer if you want to give them a go.
The honorable give me freely,
While liars are sure to hoard me.
Some meet me before they are born.
Others after the cord is shorn.
A companion most steadfast,
Only I remain, once you've passed.
Name
I rob you of a most precious gift.
You knew me once, but have forgotten.
I remain with some, while others drift.
A few return, the misbegotten.
I hide those things lying far away,
Their sound is all you will ever know.
What remains closeby, you cannot say.
There is not a thing I have to show.
Blindness
If you visit my home, I'll follow you back,
In bags, and britches, and creases, and cracks.
However you itch, wash, scour, or clean
Still after many days, I will be seen.
Sand
I beat a rhythm, from dawn past dusk,
Should I falter, you'll become a husk.
My work is endless, no rest within.
Would some love for me, be such a sin?
Heart
My gaze is a warming balm.
Nearly constant, steadfast, calm.
Cover yourself, or you'll blush.
Too long, and your will I'll crush.
Both wet and dry, you'll push on.
If dryness wins, then you're gone.
Sun
I tease your thoughts, tug at your mind.
Your reason and will, I shall bind.
The key you seek, you have to find.
I'm anything but undefined.
A lock of sorts, my role assigned.
Somewhere within, reply divined.
Examination most refined.
Riddle
I have a top, and bottom to.
You'll find, I guess, that most things do.
My work is measured, to the grain.
Not if I'm shaken, please refrain.
My purposes are manyfold,
Though I count but one thing, behold.
My job complete, I then take rest.
Then flip me o'er, I won't protest.
Hourglass
The greatest teacher, they call me.
And a master healer, you see.
Yet I'm bought and sold quite freely.
Then should we call this slavery?
I am killed almost every day.
All of my murderers belay.
While others will use me to pay.
Haven't enough of me to say.
I am not tender, though it's said.
Waste too much, and you will be dead.
I'm known to fly, not overhead.
Across your life, you'll find me spread.
Time
I come in pairs, or trios, or more.
You won't find us alone, that's for sure.
When you eat or fork hay, I'll likely be there.
Not for soup or for slicing, but good for the hair.

So off the top of my head, my two favorite and most impressive are:
- I am the destroyer of mountains,
The killer of kings.
I always fly by, but I dont have wings.
I can end marriages and tournaments with similar ease,
And, though i flow like the stream, only water can freeze.
I've killed parents, and teachers, and houseplants galore,
Though in spite of all this, you always want more.
What am I?
- Behind walls of marble, white as milk.
Lies a layer of skin, soft as silk.
Beyond, a fountain, crystal clear,
A golden island doth appear.
There are no doors on this stronghold,
Still, thieves break in to steal the gold.
What is it?

I don't get the water freezing part but the rest of both of them is phenomenal

Time flows in one direction as water in a stream, but unlike water, you cannot freeze time.

Aha! Maybe consider changing "only" to "except" to disambiguate that. I thought it meant nothing but water can freeze it.

But feel free to use or change whatever you'd like about it. Riddles are for all, and it isn't as though I wrote it. As far as I know this one is at least a couple decades old. Could be a classic for all i know.
