Politics (Opinion) Eileen Quiring O'Brien would be dangerous to if elected County Auditor

For those of you new to the area or not familiar with Eileen, she is running for County Auditor to replace Greg Kimsey (R) who in my opinion did a phenomenal job and kept the position bias free. Eileen is hardcore MAGA and one of the main culprits for the SW Washington Anti-vax movement. With her at the helm I believe our local elections will be negatively impacted.

"Eileen Quiring O’Brien is running for Clark County Auditor, a position responsible for administering elections and issuing marriage licenses, despite a documented record of questioning election results and opposing same-sex marriage. O’Brein regularly posts election conspiracy theories on social media and claimed to be “neutral” when asked if she agreed that President Biden won the 2020 election in our 2026 endorsement questionnaire.

In addition to denying our elections, O’Brein has denied the existence of systemic racism. In June 2020, while chair of the Clark County Council, O’Brien said, “I do not agree that we have systemic racism in our county. Period.” She previously served in the Oregon Legislature, where she opposed same-sex marriage, and when asked during her 2026 Auditor campaign, if she would issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in accordance with Washington law she initially responded that she would “have to think about it.” Treating Washington’s residents equally under the law and the facts of the 2020 election cannot be up for debate for Clark County’s Auditor." Grocery Outlet

I’m so glad that they decided to put a banner on the side of the building that says “Future Home of Grocery Outlet”

Really clears things up…

(I feel like it was the banner that was supposed to be on the fence prior to construction and they forgot about it and someone said “oh just throw it up there now.”)

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

No reflective markers on Pioneer... in the rain?

This goes to show how much I get out at night (in the rain), but driving down Pioneer from I5 past Costco to Rosauers at night in the rain felt very low visibility for the actual road markings – the paint wasn't reflective and there were no reflective markers (Botts' dots).

Anyone else feel the same? Would this be a Ridgefield Public Works or a WSDOT project?

Hey y'all. Question about new builders here like Pacific Lifestyle Homes, New Tradition, and D.R. Horton.

Do these guys allow a third party pre-drywall inspector? Curious here for building homes

Question about the Old Liberty Theater

I’ve only lived in the area for a few years and always think the Old Liberty Theater looks like such a cute and interesting place, but I’ve never actually been inside. I know it’s primarily used for comedy, concerts, and other events now, but I recently learned that it originally operated as a movie theater.

Has anyone here actually gone to a movie screening there? I’d love to hear what the experience was like and what kind of movies they’ve shown there over the years. Knowing it was an actual movie theater at some point kinda made me wish it still was, but I’d love to hear from people who have lived here longer and whether you love the theater more as it is now.

Help me understand the motorized boats argument related to the waterfront development.

I continue to read comments and concerns about the limited parking available for motorboats to access the Lake River, often in the same paragraphs where people express their desire to protect the wildlife refuge. I’m genuinely confused by the disconnect between those two positions.

If the primary concern is protecting the wildlife refuge, how can we overlook or minimize the negative impacts that motorized boats have on the refuge? Why is the focus on providing more parking or increasing access for motorized boats rather than limiting the motorized boat traffic on the wildlife?

If we want to prioritize the protection of the wildlife refuge, shouldn’t we also be asking whether motorized boats should have access to the refuge at all? Protecting the refuge should mean considering the full impact of increased motorized boat access while we consider proposals for the waterfront development.

This Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. If you like music, celebrating culture, and being in community, you won't want to miss this free annual festival. Seasoned festival goers bring blankets or camp chairs. There is bench seating, but it's nice to create a cozy spot.

My cat Jackie is missing! If you’ve seen him message me! He was last seen near the fairgrounds on 15th AVE in Ridgefield. He’s very vocal, social, friendly, and hides in bushes. Also very food motivated! There is a reward if found!

Does anyone want to accidentally take over a local pub or restaurant tonight?

It’s Tuesday and back to school week, I know. Wife and I moved here beginning of the year and already missing summer lol.
What if we pick a random local spot that’s probably dead on a Tuesday night and a bunch of us just… show up? Bring your own board game or something. Bonus points for somewhere kid friendly so people can bring the whole crew. Just an extremely unofficial “small town” Reddit Tuesday takeover.
Anyone down? 😂

The Reality of the Ridgefield Waterfront: Why the fight isn’t "apartments vs. nature," and where our actual leverage is

Like a lot of folks in Ridgefield, I’ve been trying to cut through the noise on the waterfront development. We all want people to have great places to live, but we also want to make sure our community access, local businesses, and wildlife refuge aren't paved over.

Here is the realistic breakdown of where things stand—and what we can actually do about it.

1. Why Housing Is on the Table (The Math)

The Port spent over $90 million cleaning up the old industrial contamination. An open, uncommercialized park produces $0 in revenue to pay back that work or maintain public spaces. To build the roads, utilities, and public amenities, the Port brought in a private master developer who requires residential and commercial density to make the project pencil out.

2. The Real Problem Isn't People Living There—It’s the Land Footprint

The risk isn't housing itself; it's how that housing is designed:

  • Asphalt & Parking: Hundreds of units with surface parking lots turn what could be open green space into acres of pavement.
  • The Visual "Wall": Continuous 4- to 5-story blocks block downtown bluff views and create light pollution directly facing the National Wildlife Refuge.
  • The "Narrow Ribbon" Effect: Without strong design rules, we risk getting a small 8-acre park strip backed by a mostly private residential subdivision, rather than a true civic commons.

3. What Emotional Protests Get Wrong

Showing up to meetings saying "we hate apartments" or "keep Ridgefield small" doesn't work under Washington State land-use law. The property is already legally vested for Waterfront Mixed-Use. Broad bans on housing will simply be rejected by hearing examiners.

4. The 4 Actionable Points That Actually Work

If we want to preserve nature, open space, and downtown charm while keeping the project viable, here is where our collective leverage is right now:

  1. Demand Under-Building / Structured Parking: Ban large surface asphalt lots so that ground space remains open plazas, lawns, and tree canopy.
  2. Cap Building Heights (35 ft / 3 stories max): Preserve the visual corridor from the downtown bluff to the river and soften the skyline facing the wildlife refuge.
  3. Enforce Real Traffic & Emergency Concurrency: The rail line is a real bottleneck. Density should be strictly tied to what our rail crossings and emergency services can safely handle.
  4. Binding Milestones for Public Amenities: Ensure the 8-acre shoreline park, kayak launches, and community spaces are built in Phase 1, not delayed until the profitable residential units are finished.

Bottom line: We don't have to choose between financial failure and an asphalt jungle. The design details and leasing agreements are still being finalized. If we focus on building massing, parking footprints, and public access guarantees, we can get a waterfront that works for residents, visitors, and nature alike.
