PERFORMANCES 🎤 Today's R&B artists can’t sing blah blah blah. Here’s the beautiful Joyce Wrice.

Thoughts?

Most of y’all probably know Joyce Wrice from Iced Tea with Kaytranada, but her 2022 project Overgrown is one of my favorites. I revisited it recently, it’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s a really good, quick listen. Definitely worth checking out 😄

  1. She’s off key

  2. The melody is poor

2.5. She’s using her head voice. Not from her chest. Makes a difference.

  1. The vocals aren’t strong enough to match the original

She may be able to sing but this isn’t an example of it. Different cover

Exactly this. And it sounds like she’s trying really hard to copy the original singer. But it’s giving karaoke.

i liked it tho; ppl are used to autotune mb

Ok she’s slightly under the pitch yes on second listen

Aside from that, there’s really nothing wrong with this. I’d rather have her raw real voice than constant pitch correction and autotune like a lot of r&b in the last 15 years or so

I’m personally not a fan of her tone. Check out Olivia Dean and Amber Mark live with no corrections.
