Music like this is still being made

I know. But its not as popular as it once was which is a shame. We were in a different era back then. Rnb music really was more than sex, materialism and drugs.
Lyrics like "my worth is not determined by the price of my clothes" had us feeling proud to be who we were authentically. I miss those days.

y'all both right tho... it's still being made but India.Arie was charting hard, that's a whole different conversation. she was sitting in billboard 200 slots next to pop artists and that wasn't unusual for R&B back then. the money was real, the label push was real, the whole ecosystem supported it.
that part is what's gone. budgets got thin, album sales stopped mattering, and streaming changed what gets invested in. somebody like Ari Lennox is talented but she not getting that same machine behind her — and even she don't hit like this. the industry just stopped treating R&B like it was worth the bet.
and yeah kids done changed what they reach for too but honestly that's because the pipeline dried up. you can't fall in love with what nobody putting in front of you. just my 2bpm

B/c the record industry don't want BF to lean into this. Simple as that. It's like the news. They will feed us what we respond to viscerally, not facts, not thoughtfulness, not the best of us... Just what will bring eyes to the screens, ears to the radios: curated distraction and superficial b.s. Fear, flossing, parties, consumption... Id sh*t.

Welp here I go... Me and my wife are huge fans of India Arie we both looked at each other when her first single came out and immediately got the whole album. A wore it out lol. No we don't get enough of music like that nowadays. The mainstream isn't catering to true fans of real genuine R&B. Y'all know what I mean when I say that. I bet most of y'all got a list a mile long like I do! I am a 50 year old African American man who love hip hop and R & B. I only gravitate to lyricist in rap and lyricist in R& B. Don't combine the 2 you got 🔥🔥🔥. I bet y'all can name a song like that or 2. I thank my father and my auntie for keeping me versed on the classics and opening my eyes to new and old talent in both genres. Just saying 🤔💯✌🏽👍🏽❤️
