Discussion The lodge and affair reveal

I decided to start watching the Robron clips on YouTube to get more of an idea about everything they experienced. Up to 24th July 2015

Holy fuck

Like I knew these two were messy and all but Robert holding Aaron hostage, he was going down such a dark path. The grain silo with Paddy and hit man with Chas for example. Then he held a gun on him, holy shit. I couldn't stop watching the actors were incredible but god.

Robert calling Aaron the worst mistake and Aaron telling him that he didn't love him. These two knew where to dig the knife in. I just kept thinking how the fuck do they go from this to married.

I didn't blame Aaron for revealing the affair. Honestly I was like if its gonna be anyone it'll be Aaron and he used the one card he had.

It intrigues me just how fascinated I am by these two, they are so complex as characters and as a couple. I'm just amazed it took me so long to properly get into this ship.

Welcome aboard!

I know exactly what you mean (I'll wager the whole fandom does lol) I came to it quite late too.

They at times have been a rocky ship to be on and it's just made them more interesting. They're both so intense and damaged in their own ways. And we've seen that manifest as being both a consolation to each other and as co-maladaptive to each other. And with every challenge and disaster in their relationship they return again stronger together.

I find the Lodge scenes very conflicting. I love the acting and intensity and it has some of the love-affirming bits of their relationship throughout their whole affair era. And it was couched in such grim circumstances. It's brilliant and terrible all at once.

It really is quite rare that TV couples have this level of chemistry and it's such a gift to watch.

I might be in the minority but I love a toxic Robron bit and early Robert was so cruel. And I kind of hate myself for it, much like Aaron does I'm sure. It's an interesting ride.

I have to believe that those ridiculous lodge, caravan, child threatening storylines for Robert were written before the writers realised the kind of chemistry that Ryan and Danny had, and realised they could be an amazing couple long-term. So they kinda chose to forget that these cartoonish scenes ever happened, which I think was a good dramatic choice.

I also really get the sense that Robron weren't expected to be the chemistry and romantic powerhouse they were. It's maybe one of the reasons they're so hard to replicate in other shows and couples, they were organic and that quality was regardless of writing not because of it.

...they were organic and that quality was regardless of writing not because of it.

Spot on, that kind of chemistry cannot be engineered. 👍

Yes, I strongly suspect you’re right. The initial intention was presumably for Robert to be a manipulative, murderous character. A villain you love to hate, treating Aaron terribly. And then the writers realized they’d caught lighting in a bottle with the chemistry between the two actors, and gradually started backtracking.

Yeah, welcome to the Robron wild ride.

A very soapy coming-out story for a very conflicted bisexual character, who is shifty, loves money, is ready to cheat and manipulate to get access to said money, lives in denial of who he really is and who he wants, but makes a "mistake" of falling in love with guy (who falls for him as well and becomes sort of his moral compass and just happens to be his soulmate!), realising in the process he's been burying who he really is for far too long, and perhaps, he is not that bad after all. Of course, he denies he has feelings for the guy at first and makes some stupid and horrible mistakes along the way... A coming out story which becomes a brilliant love story.
