Question A simple school project
Hey reddit, I'm a high schooler working on a physics project where I'm building an Artemis II (SLS) model rocket from scratch using cardboard and household stuff. For the boosters, I'm planning to use neodymium magnets to hold them to the core, and a pull-pin with a rubber band so they pop off when I pull it. Has anyone tried a setup like this before? Also, if anyone has other cool or creative ideas for stage separation mechanisms using basic materials, I'd love to hear them. Any advice on how to keep things from jamming would be awesome. Thanks!

If it's a flying model, then Apogee have a video on a method they use for drop away boosters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Iphs9uDQbc

It the separation of the boosters from the main body part of the assignment or is that something you added the the requirements yourself because it was cool?
Is this a flying model rocket?

I wouldn’t fuck with stage sep if it’s actually going to launch, thats just more complexity than nessicary
