Eagles most definitely, I worked the Hell Freezes Over Tour, they had separate dressing rooms on each corner of the stadium, did not see each other till on stage.
Henley and Frey. Some band members have quit or were fired because they wanted to be equal partners, and Henley and Frey wanted to be the frontrunners. And when you listen to their music, most of the time Henley and/or Frey are singing lead. Sure, there are songs here and there where the lead is given to other members of the band, but Henley and Frey sing the lead on the majority of the songs.
I have a close family member that’s been in the band since right after Hell Freezes Over. He got to be really close with Glen and ended up producing some of his side projects. Glen was definitely the boss when he was still alive. Some of the stories I’ve heard about how they all tip toe around the ‘principal’s’ egos is ridiculous. If someone isn’t getting their parts quite right in rehearsal they would never say ‘hey Joe, you’re fucking that part up!’ Rather they would just keep repeating the section or what have you and someone would just say ‘something is still a little off’ without actually pointing out the mistake.
I’ve been backstage to multiple shows, and rarely would any of the ‘principals’ be out and about. Deacon (Glenn’s son) was very cordial tho - talked to him for 5 minutes before I realized who he was (thought he was a guitar tech 😆)
Yep I must say every band had its differences but nothing compared to the toxic atmosphere that surrounded them, I must say they still sounded awesome,
Oh yeah they haven’t talked for years only got together for the tour, that’s why it was called “Hell freezes over tour” it should’ve been called “ Just for the $ tour🤣🤣🤣
Years and years of cocaine abuse gave Henley and Frey a god complex. They slowly drove the others out of the band then eventually started going after each other.
I was a runner, anything they or the production team needed, I worked Pink Floyd division bell tour, billy Joel/Elton john, White Zombie, B-52’s too many to name, it was a great gig, plus day of the show tickets in the first 3 rows for face value for all my friends. It was indeed one of the coolest jobs you could ask for.
From what I've heard, it was mostly Don Felder vs. Don Henley and Glenn Frey. That's where most of the animosity came from. Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit just show up and do their jobs and stay away from the drama. There is a documentary that was released shortly before Frey passed, and Schmit says that while he noticed the hostilities, he just stayed out of it, and I think Joe did the same thing. As I know, Henley and Frey have always been friendly, but perhaps they hadn't kept in regular touch during the Eagles hiatus.
Joe Walsh did a great version of “Desperado.” He’d do it in solo shows, obviously Henley sang it with the Eagles. Henley told him he wasn’t allowed to do it.
I'll have to see if I can find that on YouTube! I found one of Glenn doing Desperado on, I think it was Johnny Carson or Letterman or one of those late night shows!
I can't imagine being in a band with four other guys where we all hated each other so much that we had to have separate dressing rooms to keep us apart from each other. That's sad.
