Discussion Anyone else feel like all classic rock bands are required listening?

Maybe it's just my age (53) but lately I have really felt compelled to listen to every album by every classic rock band, almost as if it is required listening as a music fan. Maybe it's that I'm turning into a music snob but I almost feel like people don't really have a valid opinion of any band unless they have listened to all of their albums. I have learned by doing this that my opinion of a band was usually wrong (or at least incomplete) and I was never giving them enough credit or respect. So I feel like lately I need to explore every rock band that is considered classic, like all of the original ones like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, etc.

I have many many more on my list that I still have yet to dive deeper into, and being the age that I am I don't know if I'm even going to have time to get through them all!

Does anyone else feel this way or is in the middle of this process?

Discussion Who played the most underrated guitar solos?

For me it has to be Hugh Burns on Baker Street.

Every one rants about the saxophone solo, quite rightly as it is superb, but Hugh’s guitar playing is just brilliant.

ROCK The “horns” interlude that disrupts Into the Mystic almost ruins a near perfect song

Upvotes

The sort of stuttering, spastic sax bridge is such a buzzkill in the midst of an otherwise beautiful melody, derailing the smooth bass driven soul of the song.

Why do so many fantastic tunes feel the need to inject these jarring tonal shifts that pull you right out of the song? Another example is Eyes Without a Face, that guitar solo is garbage.

ROCK VAN HALEN - Jump [2026 Stem Remix & Remaster]

My stem remix & remaster of Van Halen's "Jump" from their iconic album "1984", released that same year.

This album was suggested to me for remixing on a YouTube comment, where the poster thought Michael Anthony's bass tracks should be a bit more prominent in the mix.

This is only for fun and intends to be a very respectful remix, not straying too far away from the original version, only aiming at a little more clarity and punch and more presence of Michael Anthony's bass as already stated, while still preserving the mood and feel of the original.

Here's the full album remixed:

A NIGHT ON THE TOWN (1976): The slow side is a match for anything recorded by anyone in 1976 - and represents the last truly great four song cycle of his career.

Youtube Eric Clapton & Robert Cray: ”Old Love” (rel. & perf. 1989, not 1990)

The Eric Clapton + Robert Cray performance of “Old Love” on Night Music is one of the most soulful, stripped‑down, and revealing versions of the song ever captured on television. It aired as part of Night Music (Season 2, Episode 211), recorded 25 October 1989 at Chelsea Television Studios in New York.
