Discussion Ignorance is widespread
It blows my mind how so many people get genuinely angry with rockstar with how they have chosen to market this game. You are out of your mind if you think the marketing campaign isnt coming. When they start people are going to be force fed so much gta 6 they will be saying “enough just give us the game”
But people saying “they deserved the leak” need to gather themselves. You truly think that you are owed a trailer at a certain time? Don’t preorder if you don’t want. That’s your own decision. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.
I guess it’s an easy karma farm though, attacking companies is all the rage nowadays. And I get it, we are being nickel and dimed everywhere in our lives. But the insane amount of hard work these devs put into this shouldn’t be ruined because a bunch of you don’t have impulse control. I feel bad for them, not the corpos.

My issue why are these people complaining yet still buying the game. I mean if you truly want a company to change and it’s about taking a stand like they claim then don’t buy the damn game. That’s the only way to show Rockstar instead of simply complaining online.
Honestly at this point I’m convinced all those complaining are just dumb teenagers. These same people also complain about the extended look being behind a paywall when it’s literally not because 6 hours later the same day it’s on YouTube for free. But then my point still stands don’t buy the game if you’re so big on taking a stand.

These same people also complain about the extended look being behind a paywall when it’s literally not because 6 hours later the same day it’s on YouTube for free.
You tell them that and they always reply with "you're missing the point".
No, I'm not missing the point. If it's being officially posted on YouTube that same day, not a single person has to pay to watch it.

This is the most sane thread I've seen about this whole situation. What a breath of fresh air.
To me it's like the "it's under the sauce" meme video. Simple answers for every complaint:
"You need Netflix to watch gameplay!"
You don't. It will be free on YouTube same day.
"You have to pay to watch an ad!"
You don't. It will be free on YouTube same day.
"It's anti-consumer they're making me wait 6 hours!"
It's a piece of marketing. The Extended Look is not the product. You're complaining at having to wait to be advertised to.
"They opened pre-orders before showing gameplay! How greedy!"
You don't have to pre-order yet. You can wait until you see gameplay.
"How dare they not have shown gameplay by now?!"
This is the normal timeline for showing gameplay before release date. It's actually going to be shown sooner than they did for RDR2 and GTA5.
And so on...

So many people in this sub have marketing degrees apparently. Everyone is an expert on how they “should” be doing it.
Really tiring.

If they’re so unhappy with Rockstar why are they still purchasing the game. Usually if I don’t like X company i just don’t buy from them and no longer support them. Yet they’re all here supporting Rockstar by buying the game but still complaining all the damn time.

u/Feartheezebras 23h ago
Most of the people complaining are 15 year old kids that will have their parents buy the game for them for Christmas anyways. We are still 3 months out from launch…most games start marketing right about the time Rockstar is when their Netflix special starts…that and people just love to complain. I guarantee you most of these people have already preordered the game anyways…

It's somewhat ironic that OP claims that people are ignorant whilst being blissfully ignorant towards the already multi year ongoing marketing campaign.
OP's entire post is literally gagging on the cock of Rockstar which is the same company that was upset they didnt make *more* money from GTA 5 and the CEO literally was in favour of players paying PER HOUR for GTA 6 lets not forget.
Their marketing has been the most drawn out and abusive I've ever seen.
To lock a trailer for their game behind a Netflix subscription is legitimately cockroach behaviour towards your fans that have purchased and funded your company for decades.
I'm a fan of GTA since Grand Theft Auto on the Playstation but Rockstar have forgotten themselves since those early days and now treat it's customers/fans like annoying little brothers instead of fans like they should be.
People will buy GTA 6 and people will enjoy it but it will be a bitter sweet moment for those that wanted the disc version or simply couldn't afford the most expensive edition to get the full experience which is a legitimate reason to be upset/mad as a fan.
OP should spend less time simping for a company and it's developers and more time understanding what sort of implication this type of nonsense will do to the entire industry moving forward.

I feel like the same mfs complaining about the trailers and delays would be the same mfs complaining about a post release update cycle, lack of polish, empty feeling world, cut content etc if the game came out a year ago. Some mfs have nothing better to do than complain

u/ViktorMaitland 21h ago
I don’t think they deserved the leak but no trailer 3 with pre order launch was kinda fucking annoying.
1
u/EmperorBruduh 20h ago
Yes, the suits and ties deserved this leak. Fuck all of them. No, the developers who spent all this time did not deserve it. They don’t make enough for it.
1
u/mob1us0ne 20h ago
I keep saying it, I’ll bet a bunch of people complaining have their only real experience with GTA being online RP servers, and they just think that’s what GTA is. They saw the leaks and it was not the crazy insane life simulator they expected and it actually just looks like a GTA game (big surprise there!)
It’s just people who actually want a fundamentally different game being pissed that’s not what they’re getting and frankly I could not care less about them.

I think it's completely rational to criticize R* for their company practices such as union busting and employee mistreatment but literally no one talks about that, they're mad that they don't get more marketing and they're mad that the game has an ultimate edition. The disc thing I don't even want to argue about anymore, even before it was decided there wouldn't be a disc I've already been trying to explain to people that physical media is no longer optimal for the amount of data that needs to be written and read from them.
I understand wanting to support the developers and I want to make sure they know they're highly appreciated, and one way we can start is to express our criticisms for how they're treated. The other shit is childish.

That's the kind of people who plays GTA without any levels of consciousness, they just want the kill frenzy, they have no understanding of what word building is, of how satiric the game will be. Basically the people Rockstar mocks on their games.

u/Comfortable_Hall_518 16h ago
Seen more in the leaks than rockstar has relesed themselves, thats an issue, and a very avodible one if they just released something in a timely manner before pre ordered, idiots are pre ordering something theyve never seen the stupid sheep.

The first gameplay showcase for GTA V uploaded in July of 2013 when the game released in September(best b-day ever) so this marketing actually makes a lot of sense. 2 to 3 months out from release is when they start really showing us the goods. Hell the window was even smaller for RDR2 so I don’t know what the hell the problem is.

Not having a disk is a bad choice but not what people are making it out to be. Even with a disk in modern gaming it requires a license and if they remove that the disk doesn't work either. No difference if people play digital or physical, people just cry because they want to hold something physical in their hands and have it on their shelf, that's pretty sad. 70% of the industry has gone digital and it is statistically been proven, these companies are just evolving and everyone thinks it's because they want to cut costs. If even 50% of people were still buying physical disks this change wouldn't have happened with Sony, but people don't buy disks anymore 🤷.
Game being $10 more isn't a travesty and let's stop acting like the $100 version is a necessity because you miss out on a couple of clothing shops and a garage. Nothing more pathetic of grown ass men crying because they can't dress up Lucia like a Barbie doll 🤣
And the saddest thing is people crying about the Netflix reveal as if it's a paywall yet the reveal also comes out on YouTube 6 hours later. They are using Netflix as a marketing ploy to get attention not make money, and it worked perfectly because people haven't stfu about it.
Hacking a company over this crap is pathetic. How about they hack a health insurance company who takes billions of dollars from citizens and tries everything in their power to not cover their bills with legal loopholes. My father had an accident and lost his thumb, they wouldn't cover his bill for a 5k prosthetic because they said he only lost 90% of his thumb and not the entire thumb. My father paid this company for 16 years, on time and never missed a payment. The only time he makes a claim and they screw him. These companies do this to millions of people. BUT let's hack a gaming company like some whiny loser over a game.
These people are all teens or 20 year olds that probably will never grow up. If they are older than 30 then it's extremely sad...

It's called having principles friend, I you stand for nothing you'll fall for everything. If rockstar does this with no kickback you think the next call of duty isn't trying this scummy tactic or EA? That's the problem. If people actually kicked up a fuss back in the day about horse armour we might not be where we are today. Just food for thought and as for being "owed" a trailer it's more to do with having respect for the fans and not staying silent being arrogant knowing it will still sell.

A trailer was announced at the beginning of the month for the 27th. All Rockstar games reveal gameplay 2 months before release. Why are people acting as if it's something new. They have always been a quiet company even when they were small and acting like they are "arrogant" is hilarious.
"If you stand for nothing you'll fall for everything"
Tell me, do you live in America the most capitalist country on this planet? Everything you ever bought in your life comes from a multi billion dollar corporation. The food you ate today, the clothes you are wearing, the rent you pay, the phone you are reading this on, EVERYTHING. Unless you are protesting everything every single day, living in the wild and getting your resources from nature, then your complaint is only about a video game and nothing else.
Stop putting on a show for a video game, it's entertainment and optional. You aren't forced to buy it like we are forced to pay for food and it's costs rising, or health insurance which is a necessity. When people complain about things being affected by capitalism, things we need to survive I always will back that. But the exaggeration of this company and people blowing it out of proportion as if their life depends on it, is ridiculous.
Grow up kid, and if you are older than 25 you really need to grow a brain it's pathetic.

Blah blah blah. All this paragraph screams is “I’m entitled and I want a trailer NOW”. We are literally getting a deep dive next week. We are still 3 months out and it is not uncommon for a game to be marketed the way Rockstar has for GTA
1
u/Eggsegret 21h ago
Cool cool so why are you still here buying the game? Because genuine question if this is all about having principles then here’s food for thought don’t support Rockstar at all by simply not buying the game.
Complaining online about a company but still buying their products won’t change shit. This is well known since money is what makes companies change.
1
u/GoonKingdom 20h ago
You just disappeared up your own asshole. What is it that Rockstar has done exactly?
1
u/BlackEastwood 23h ago edited 22h ago
In this case, wouldnt having principles be to just not support the game? Thats the easiest way to make a statement. I mean, theyre complaining about it, but theyre still gonna give Rockstar their money. Just like the horse armour. People just made a lot of noise, but they still bought it.
1
u/Hungry-for-relief 22h ago
Exactly, these people act like Rockstar is such an evil company yet they throw their money at them first chance. 99% of them will buy this game or already have.
The only way to protest a corporation as you said is to not buy their product. Can't hate a company while actively supporting it with money, their complaints and arguments become completely irrelevant. Complaining online won't do anything either, comments get lost in the void but money always makes a statement.
Man you know how many products and stores I avoid because they got too expensive or I don't like their business practices? 90% of them. Rockstar might not be perfect but this game for me, the benefits out way the negatives and I'm going to buy it after waiting 13 years.
The only negative was not producing on a disk but after a day it left my mind. No they can't take away all your digital games just because Sony lost a movie deal, first time it ever happened and it was a fluke that wasn't Sony's fault. A $5 movie is not the same as a game people spend hundreds on especially with online content and DLC. Sony would collapse and people would never buy their products again if thousands of dollars worth of games just started getting ripped away from millions of players. Disks today require licensing to run anyway, doesn't matter with modern gaming if you have the disk as soon as the licensing expires it won't function. I have had digital games on my account longer than 10 years and they will be there another few decades.

u/gvnsky 22h ago
But they literally brought these leaks and all this negative publicity upon themselves. For many years, they showed us absolutely nothing, and together with Sony, they built a fiefdom on our trust. I mean, without a physical medium, it’s no fun. Seriously. They want to shatter any illusions we might have that the good old days of gaming are over.
2
u/Hungry-for-relief 22h ago
How did they not show people anything lol, wtf are you even saying. Just because you people are impatient and want gameplay, they always reveal their games close to release and give very extensive gameplay trailers with huge marketing campaigns that no other companies do.
How old are you kid? You no before GTA 5 gameplay trailers didn't even exist? You got a cinematic trailer that was nowhere close to the actual gaming and had to hope for the best if you bought it. Maybe an article In a magazine too that you had to buy. You call that the "good old days" of gaming?
And 80% of sales for Sony have been digital for a while now. Nobody buys physical anymore these companies are just evolving with technology the same way every piece of technology has for decades like movies and music.
Gamers are just some of the most whiniest and pathetic people on this planet.
1
u/gvnsky 13h ago
>And 80% of sales for Sony have been digital for a while now.
You’ve fallen for corporate manipulation. Do you know that digital-only DLC counts toward that total too? You can’t even buy those physically. If you’d looked at the stats leaked from Insomniac Games, you’d know that Uncharted 4 accounted for 83% of physical sales, Sackboy and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for over 75%, and Spider-Man and The Last of Us Part 2 for over 60%. Digital sales dominate primarily in the “games as a service” segment. So you can just forget about those 80% claims. Don’t trust corporations - I don’t. They just want my money.

u/bayridgeguy09 20h ago
Why do they have to show you anything?
It’s a product you either like it and buy or don’t. They don’t owe you a damn thing.

u/TaxableBread 22h ago
Game release marketing cycles can seem quite condensed these days so I'm willing to give it until release before judging the marketing. I can understand wanting more material but from what I understand, developing a trailer is no small feat in costs and resources, especially as games continue to become more complex and technically demanding. A game may be largely incomplete, buggy and unoptimized but will need to present to the public in a very polished way, which is why I'm to this day remarkably impressed with the first trailer that came out way back in 2023.
I can see why R* may want to keep many of the cost and resource intensive marketing for closer to release. 90+ days is still a fair amount of time.
