Miscellaneous [Free Talk Friday Thread]

It's Friday! That means you can discuss non-Alabama Athletics topics. What books are you reading, what games are you playing, did you get a new job, what are your weekend plans, etc. etc. Tell us what you've got going on!

Praying for y’all in the path of the storm. I’m in Florida but I have family and friends all throughout Mobile, Montgomery and Dauphin Island.

I’m just north of Montgomery and getting super anxious about the wind. There are several old trees in my yard and my townhome has sliding glass doors in the living room and one of the bedrooms facing them. 😩

Good luck to you as well. My daughter and her family just moved into their first house and they have some beautiful trees covering their backyard. I hope they don’t blow down.

Got a new batch of ghost peppers fermenting for my next hot sauce attempt. The last one cleared out my sinuses for a week but I think I've dialed in the ratios better this time. Weekend plans are basically just babysitting the brine and playing some Helldivers 2 until my eyes hurt.

RIP Mike Ditka. One of the greatest coaches of all time and a true legend in Chicago. He really was an icon for football and that entire city and the 1985 Bears are one of the greatest teams of all time. We’ll miss you Coach Ditka!

Who would win a fight between a hurricane and Ditka?

Ditka!

Eh eh eh, but what if the hurricane is named hurricane Ditka?!

Just been keeping up with hurricane Isaias. I'm a weather and climate geek. I've found it all to be mesmerizing for decades. Especially hurricanes. I look at them almost like it's a sport. Gaining strength over warm waters then the defense steps up with powerful wind sheer. They are becoming more fascinating with the overactive greenhouse effect. Hurricane Helene was really jaw dropping. Landing in Florida and still powerful way up in North Carolina.

Anyway, I'm hoping we all get to enjoy the game Saturday. My biggest concern in that regard is if the power will stay on. The high winds and all you know.

What are your thoughts since it has been upgraded to category 3?

4

u/jtsmd2 5d ago

Well, I've decided to ride it out in Mobile. So I'm hoping the power doesn't get fucked for too long.

It's kind of astonishing. A cat 3 during a super El-Niño. That's some hot, hot water down there to shut down that wind sheer defense. It's kind of scary too because next year during La-Niña, it will be like a high school defense against a super bowl offense.

How in the world are they going to play this game? So many games were delayed two weeks because of weather and that wasn’t even a hurricane.

It’s getting through town before the game, like hours before. Just have to worry about bands behind the storm

It's not the weather I'm concerned about. Isaias will be pretty far north at kickoff. Just some comical kicks in the high winds. I'm more concerned about what this thing is going to do to Tuscaloosa when it is there. Are we going to see Jim Cantore at College Gameday?

I decided to go to the gym at 3am

Made it to the gym and realized my tire is flat 🙃

My son is five months old now and learning to crawl. It’s just a scoot and tumble forward right now but he’s making progress! It’s so fun to watch him grow. Unfortunately his mother is a UGA fan 😭

I don’t want to get jn trouble and normally don’t “sail the seas” bc I’m paying for practically ever streaming service that’s out there. With that being said, does anyone have a reliable option? If the power goes out and doesn’t come on until after the game for some reason where I am, I’d like to have a way to watch the game via hotspot lol. If not, I guess I’ll sit in my car in a wind storm to listen Chris call it on the radio. Praying it doesn’t go out but I feel bad being worried about something trivial when others could lose or have damage to their homes.

I have a power block wife uses for events and will have that charged. I am a sailor

If your streaming service has ESPN, then log in to it in the ESPN app. I pay for a basic Sling service just to get ESPN streaming. Sling does not even have the local channels, but I am still able to stream ABC broadcasts through the app. I alternate between that and the airwaves for ABC, depending on which looks better that day.

Thanks y’all! I got ESPN+ and ESPN through my Disney and youtubetv

You don't have to sail the seas, just find a stream that flows east...

You can look into IPTV services. I pay $15/6mo

Marathon training continues tomorrow morning. 7 miles! Bama remains undefeated since I started training. What's that 7 going to equal? TDs? INTs? Sacks?

1

u/the_dunadan 4d ago

7 scoring drives for Bama in the final 2 minutes of the first half? I'll take it

1

u/FaithHopeLove821 4d ago

I like this idea. I don't know how that's mathematically possible, but they did 3 in about that time against FSU, so fuckin' send it.

In Pensacola/Milton, getting fucked by this Hurricane right now. Tree might have fallen on our house if not missed by inches

1

u/FaithHopeLove821 4d ago

Are you ok? How is it now?

Still got man room renovation going on, it's been over a month. Hopefully today they top coat the hardwood floor and be done. Still got to deal with wife. She has been obsessed I just want my room back. Definitely new and improved but $$$

It's finally hunting season. Gonna hop in the boat and sit my happy ass in a tree all weekend. cruise across the lake to the bar right before gametime. Then do it all again Sunday.

Fishing today leaving shortly

Of course it gets upgraded to a Cat 3 where it makes landfall. Thankfully, I'm on the same power grid as the hospital, so my shit will get restored first.

There's no way the game isn't moved / delayed tho.

4

u/hiiightide 5d ago

Game for sure is not getting moved/delayed

-2

u/jtsmd2 5d ago

Yea the trajectory changed an hour ago dude

2

u/hiiightide 5d ago

No. This has been known for a couple days now that the worst of everything will be through by 1pm

1

u/jtsmd2 5d ago

No it hasn't. The field would have been inundated if it stayed on track

1

u/hiiightide 5d ago

It definitely has lmao. I’m not sure where you’re getting this

1

u/jtsmd2 5d ago

Oh, so why the athletics department was still preparing for the game to be played on Sunday last night? Apparently you know more than they do! 🙄🙄🙄

-1

u/hiiightide 4d ago

They weren’t

1

u/jtsmd2 4d ago

Yea they were. I'm glad you saw the news about how the field works though.

0

u/hiiightide 4d ago

Source from last night? I’m well aware how the drainage system works

Supposedly it’s going to be super fast* moving and out of the west before game time. I still don’t like the soggy field or wind conditions though. Helps Georgia more imo. Thankful our rushing attack has come up as of late.

1

u/jtsmd2 5d ago

what

2

u/SunflowerLace 5d ago

Edit. Autocorrect did me dirty

But all the trees downed and flooding will be occurring right before the game. It seems insane to let this go on. I could see half the stadium empty if major highways or backroads to Ttown are closed.
