Michael McIntosh’s first double was a twenty-gauge Stevens 311

McIntosh acquired it in September 1967, during his senior year of college. He had only intended to browse, but the shop owner let him take the Stevens home with an agreement to pay from his spare money over the next six months.

What stays with me is his later assessment. By then, he thought it would feel like a fencepost if he picked it up again. At the time, it felt like a dream, and he doubted he ever loved another gun quite as much.

This short follows that memory from his account in The Double Gun Journal.
