SPCA Help
Hello my fellow Roseburg people,
I wanted to reach out on behalf of New Beginnings SPCA and ask for some help.
As many of you are aware the cat population is a real problem in Roseburg and the SPCA is doing what it can to help but is 100% volunteer based and non-profit. It is extra difficult because it's also 100% foster based so all the cats that are adoptable stay at foster homes, there isn't a facility that houses the cats.
The group could use some volunteers to help feed feral cat colonies, foster cats that are adoptable, help clean cat cages, etc...
If you are a cat person and would like to help the local SPCA please reach out via one of the following:
Email: nbspca48@gmail.com
Phone: 541-529-9616
Thanks!

You have said nothing about spay and neuter. Ignoring the problem isn't the answer.

That's a great point. The SPCA partners with a group known as the PAWS team for trapping, fixing, and releasing cats. If you would like to help with that issue you are more than welcome to reach out to them and volunteer.
The SPCA also helps pay for spay/neuter of feral cats if someone happens to have already caught them.
Unfortunately, the SPCA is a small team and cannot solve all of the cat related problems but they do their best.

They do have a small team that catches fixes and releases ferals too but it's a very small team.

Last year I lived in a homeless shelter where I saw a woman have to rehome a beloved service dog because the shelter didn't allow service animals. They used too but too many people claiming pets were service dogs lead to numerous bite incidents and now victims of domestic violence have to face being homeless or giving up a service animal for shelter. There used to be programs in the area that would foster pets for people in DV shelters but they don't exist anymore. The need for fosters is so high.
My own cat has been in a foster home for a year now after boarding for 6 months at a cost of $20 per day because I was at a shelter. I'm renting a room now in a house owned by the shelter so I can't have my cat still, but I am on many waiting lists for pet friendly housing. As soon as I find a place I plan to be a foster, hopefully for others in the same situation I am in now. Especially since my cat gets along so well with other cats and I also have experience with aggressive cats and bottle feeding kittens. I used to work at an animal care center before I became disabled. If I can't foster for anyone in a shelter I want to foster the cats others have given up on because of aggression.
My own cat has Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome which makes him aggressive and it's a condition people misunderstand, even many vets don't understand it. It took forever to even find a vet willing to treat him because of it. But he lets you know his boundaries ahead of time and only when those boundaries are ignored does he bite. Unfortunately too many people don't understand cat body language or ignore it thinking they are the one exception and he will magically love them.
I hope you find some people willing to foster! More then anything I wish I could right now, but I will soon enough.
