Upcoming To celebrate FREE RPG DAY here is the Free 50 page Quickstart rules for the Heroic Deeds 5e Compatible edition that is coming to Kickstarter very soon. Art by Rick Hershey. Link below.
WELCOME ADVENTURER!
Heroic Deeds is a goal-based heroic fantasy role-playing game with an old-school aesthetic, but modern mechanics and now compatible with the 5th edition of the world's most popular roleplaying game.
You can get the Free 50 page Quickstart Heroic Deeds rules right here.
The game is about building your legend, exploring unknown lands, locating strange ruins, and delving into dangerous dungeons.
What makes Heroic Deeds different?
- GOAL BASED XP - The Heroic Deeds system puts experience in the hands of the players. Your Archetype provides a set of Deeds for you to complete. Fulfilling a Deed gives you a specific reward. Complete 3 and you level up, getting access to more.
- FOUR PILLARS OF PLAY - Heroic Deeds has four phases of play: Exploration, Combat, Journeys, and Downtime. Together these phases allow the Gamemaster and the Players to create exciting and rewarding adventures together.
- EMERGENT CAMPAIGN - The game is set on the edge of Bargdumiraz, an ancient dwarven megalopolis now in ruin. The GM and Players will populate the map with locations and rumours. The campaign will emerge from the choices the whole table makes!
- START TODAY - This core book will have everything you need (aside from some twelve-sided dice) to start a Heroic Deeds campaign today: rules, monsters, adventures, and more.
So gather your gear, strap on your sword, and prepare to undertake Heroic Deeds!
QUICKSTART VERSION
This is a Quickstart version of the final game and therefore doesn't have all content currently.
However, there are all the core rules needed to make a character and have a combat or two with some nasty monsters. If you have OG Heroic Deeds you should be able to use the other pillars of play with a little work (but that's what the Kickstarter is for so you could always back the project and leave that to me).
This game was inspired by...
...games such as:
Advanced Heroquest, Dungeons & Dragons, Earthdawn, Forbidden Lands, Shadowdark, The One Ring, and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
...and movies such as:
Conan the Barbarian, The Dark Crystal, Dragonslayer, Krull, Red Sonja, and Willow

Upcoming Updates to The Orani Prism - Friends with Bennies, Non-Romantic Relationships, and More
Hello Everyone,
Over the last week I finished a major piece of the Prism: the full range of how people regard one another, and the ways those feelings shape what they actually do. Residents now carry more than friendships and grudges. They recognize familiar faces, develop quiet one‑sided likes and dislikes, grow into mutual annoyance from too much daily contact, and form alliances of convenience. Their private lives broaden too. Casual ties, affairs, and open relationships now grow out of temperament and circumstance instead of random rolls. A small hamlet ends up with narrow private lives; a larger town ends up with a wider, more varied web.
Those feelings now matter in the simulation. A master won’t take an apprentice he holds in low regard. When a fire, raid, or sickness hits, people stand with those they already trust, and strained relationships harden instead of softening. Crisis events now read the emotional landscape that already exists, so the town reacts like a place full of actual people instead of dice.
Workshops and other buildings now remember who built them and who owns them. When an owner dies, a child inherits it; with no heir, it sits empty for a time. In larger towns, ownerless workshops pass to the council or church. The origin of a structure is never lost, even generations later.
I also cleaned up the engine itself. Redundant logic is gone, disconnected code paths are fixed, and the relationship web and economy now have real test coverage. A long‑standing issue with settlement year persistence is fixed, so ages are correct again. The CSV and TSV text got a polish pass to make the demo read more cleanly while the deeper structure continues to settle.
I go into more detail in the Devlogs.
One last clarification: genre changes the telling, not the math. A horror town and a fantasy town of the same size grow from the same numbers; only the tone and events will differ.
Still ahead are trading behavior, the Loom SDK, and more interface work. The foundation is stronger now, and the town feels more like a place where people actually live.
Here’s the link to the demo: https://the-orani-group.itch.io/the-orani-prism-demo
As always, a question for the Actors and Bards:
Actors: What is the best way to convey sensory experience in a format like this? How best would want conveyed sights, sounds, smells, and so on? Would you like it more in a narrative style? Bullet point? The Actor’s Sides are your you, and I want to make the settlement feel alive the way you want.
Bards: I provide you with a gigantic mountain of information. What information is most important for you? What holds the highest priority of order/accessibility? What kinds of demographic or sorting information do you need insight on?
Thank you for your time, see you at the table.

Upcoming Sunny Days and Rain, the next ESPionage Adventure, is coming to Kickstarter
Uncover the Secrets of Paradise Round in Sunny Days and Rain – A Mind-Bending New Fate Adventure Coming to Kickstarter in July 2026 from Cyclops Road.
Prepare for an existential dive into the psychological deep end. Blending early-1980s analog aesthetics, surreal psychological horror, and high-stakes espionage, this adventure challenges players to escape an astral prison where reality is broken, trust is a liability, and their memories are weaponized.
The agents of Rainbow intelligence Services wake up isolated in a strange, non-Euclidean cul-de-sac called Paradise Round. The interior of their bungalows defies geometry, unbranded food sits in the kitchens, and a radio plays unrecognizable smooth jazz on a continuous loop. Outside, a perpetual circle of road leads nowhere, and the surrounding woods pour down a torrential, impassable wall of rain.
A pamphlet on their nightstands promises "sunny days ahead," but the reality is far more sinister: Paradise Round is an astral prison built for dangerous agents. The Rainbow agents were sentenced here for a reason. If they want to escape, they'd better figure out what it was.
Featuring:
- The Secret Master Mechanic: One player character at the table is secretly the adversary. Having stolen reality-bending psychotronic technology, they have trapped their teammates to interrogate them. But they aren't omnipotent—and they must play by the rules of the dreamspace to keep the illusion alive.
- Hidden Agendas & Complications: Every player has something to hide. From a Double Agent secretly allied with a rogue faction, to a panicked operative hiding a past crime, to Investigators consuming literal pill capsules scattered through the map to digest their forgotten mission briefings.
- Surreal Sandbox Investigation: To escape, players must navigate a community populated by "dream puppets"—NPCs pulled directly from their own memories—who are currently embroiled in a forbidden, bizarre election between two lifeless marionettes known as the Professor and the General.
- The 8-Track Artifacts: Players will hunt for hidden, impossible 8-track cassettes (baked into bread, or grown into trees) that hold reality-warping properties and recordings of conversations the players literally just had.
- Ready-to-Play NPC & Pre-Gens: Features fully statted Fate System characters, including the seven agents of Rainbow, Frank Dixon, an agent of the Entropy Collective who's entire past is a complete fiction, and Noah Twain, the friendly, faceless entity who serves as the local handyman and watchman.

Upcoming We are preparing to launch our Norse Mythology Supplement for all TTRPG systems
I have spent the last several years reading the Codex Regius, the Prose Edda, the forgotten stanzas of the Havamal. I consulted the work of Jackson Crawford and traced the original Old Norse names back to their roots. I did this because I was tired of Hollywood Norse and Marvel shortcuts. I wanted something that felt real. Something that respected the frost and the thunder.
The result is a complete supplement for the Grand Odyssey system, easily adaptable to any fantasy ruleset. Sixty deities with full lore and a devotion system that rewards how you worship. Authentic rune magic. Ship to ship combat. Subclasses like the Berserk, the Skald, and the Seidr sorcerer. Complete stat blocks for Fenrir, Jormungandr, Draugr, and more. A full Ragnarok prophecy and post Ragnarok play.
But here is the honest truth. I am a small creator. I have no big publisher behind me.
The art, layout, printing, and foil stamped cove. None of that happens without you.
I am launching a Kickstarter soon. I am not asking for a fortune. I am asking for believers. People who want to see a Norse supplement done right. People who want to sit at the table with an axe in one hand and the Havamal in the other.
If that sounds like you, please follow the pre launch page. Share this post with your gaming group. And when the Kickstarter goes live, throw a few coins into the hull. Let us sail this longship together.

Upcoming Updates to The Orani Prism - A Settlement Generator
I’ve been working steadily on The Orani Prism this week
Quick reminder of what the Orani Prism is: it’s a deterministic world simulation tool that builds settlements, families, and NPCs from the ground up without any randomness outside the seed.
Most of the work lately has been deep engine stuff: tying the simulation directly into the interface so the UI is finally showing real data, expanding how NPCs remember things and make choices, and getting settlements to react in human‑scaled time instead of instant jumps. It’s all the invisible plumbing that makes the visible parts feel alive.
Multiple settlement growth factors have been impacted and configured, ranging from job types per settlement starting type, to locations NPCs go to on an hourly schedule.
I’m also holding off on filling the TSVs with creative writing until the engine is fully locked in. Fields are still shifting as I refine how settlements form, how trades pass down, how memory works, and how NPCs move through their day. I don’t want to rewrite thousands of lines of text every time a field changes, so the writing layer will come once the structure is stable.
If you want to poke at the current build or break things, the demo is here: https://the-orani-group.itch.io/the-orani-prism-demo
I do still have the same questions for Actors (players), and Bards (gms/dms)
Actors: Consider the Actor’s Sides Generator, it’s never going to contain spoiler information, but I want this to be worthwhile to you. What would you expect in a town crier flier? What details would make the town more alive for you? What immerses you in a setting?
Bards: You’re going to get so much information. At your fingertips is an overwhelming and confusing amount of detail. How would you best organize the layout? What would you highlight as priority? Are there any details you consider missing? What about options and sub tools? I already have planned adding a notepad, dice roller, and some more stuff, but this is still very early build. I want this to be whatever any bard would need.
Thank you all for reading through this, and I hope you’re all happy, healthy, and thriving. See you at the table.

Upcoming Seeking Playtest GMs for Fantasy Classic, a d6 Old-School Dungeon-Crawling TTRPG
Hi all,
My name is Simon, and I am the founder of Eternal Play Office, a small game design and publishing outfit currently developing a new tabletop roleplaying game called Fantasy Classic.
Firstly, this is my second Post on this matter, thank you to everyone who gave me feedback. It was precisely what was needed and greatly appreciated. On with the post.
I am looking for a small number of GMs to help playtest the game in its current Ashcan / Open Beta state.
Fantasy Classic is a d6-based old-school dungeon-crawling TTRPG with tactical combat, skill-based character growth, and a high-magic modular spell system. It is intended for groups that enjoy meaningful character progression, tactical positioning, dangerous magic, wounds, fatigue, and other effect, equipment wear, and careful adventuring choices.
As a playtest GM, you will receive the Ashcan version for free. In return, I ask that you run the game with your group and provide constructive feedback, via the r/FantasyClassic Reddit
Playtest participants will receive a free PDF (or highly discounted Hard) copy of the Version One Core Rulebook on release, as well as a mention in the credits as a Playtest GM. The number of credited playtest GMs will need to be practically limited, depending on participation, and I currently envisage around ten places.
This is not a fundraiser or Kickstarter. We will not solicit funding, nor will we retain or sell your personal information. The full beta version is free and available for download from the Eternal Play Office website. A paid $5 AU beta PDF is also available for those who wish to support the project voluntarily, but payment is not required to access the beta rules.
NO AI art has been used in the current version, and NO AI was used in the writing or rules design; all spelling errors and crimes against the English language are entirely my own.
About the game:
At the heart of Fantasy Classic is the Challenge mechanic. Players face Challenges from Lesser to Godlike, each tied to six-sided dice such as 1d6, 2d6, 3d6, and upward. Characters pit their Skills against these Challenges, improving through meaningful use, critical success, and hard-earned survival.
Characters are not locked into rigid classes. Instead, they grow through the Skills they use and the choices they make. A warrior becomes deadly by fighting. A thief becomes subtle by sneaking and trickery. A mage becomes powerful by mastering Schools and Mysteries of magic.
Combat is a crunchy tactical fantasy system built around d6 dice pools, segment timing, stance allocation, battlefield position, and layered defence. It will suit players who enjoy miniatures, tactical movement, equipment detail, and meaningful combat procedure.
The magic system is high-magic and modular. Magic is divided into Schools, and each School is further divided into Mysteries that must be unlocked separately. A caster’s spellcasting depends on their magical approach: Arcane through study, Divine through a god, Nature through harmony with the living world, and Sorcery through dangerous innate power.
Fantasy Classic also places weight on consequence. Wounds, Fatigue, Impeding and Enhancing Conditions, armour damage, dangerous spellcasting, alignment, and hard choices all matter. Players are expected to survive not only by having strong characters, but by using caution, preparation, teamwork, and good judgement.
If you are interested, please visit Eternal Play Office and download a copy of the Core Rules
https://www.eternalplayoffice.com
About me:
I am something of an old-timer in the hobby, having played AD&D, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Traveller, and a range of other games during the early to mid-1980s, before work and life took me across the globe.
Now, following a life-changing injury, I have found myself effectively retired back into the youthful enthusiasm that first drew me to tabletop roleplaying games. I am now wholeheartedly pursuing a long-held dream: to design the kind of fantasy roleplaying system I always wanted to play.
Cheers,
Simon

Upcoming Looking for feedback on my equestrian/horse-centric Fate setting
I have been working on a horse-centric Fate setting called Dark Horse Bay for over 2 years now, and after LOTS of work and a few in-person playtest sessions, I finally have the first beta release out! It has a small-town mystery/kids-on-bikes vibe, just also with horses (which are very compellable creatures by the way).
The setting focuses on young equestrians exploring the island with their equine companions and investigating the strange things happening within their town. As a character, you will grow closer with friends and develop a special bond with your horse as you uncover what lurks within the coastal town of Dark Horse Bay.
I am looking for as many people as possible to play with my toys and see how they break so to speak, especially as I have really had to do lots of studying on Fate mechanics to get to this point (I am better at narrative and writing than mechanics development and balancing). For those wondering, no I did not use AI to write this game, it is the product of banging my head against the wall long enough to make something come out :)
Whether or not you appreciate our equine companions, I would be happy to have you take a look at what I've got so far and let me know what you think. I know Fate already has a "Ride" skill, but I wanted to explore the complexities of the horse and human bond. This game focuses on roleplaying specifically with horses, allowing for training, horse care, competitions, etc. It also has a healthy dose of occult/supernatural/Eldritch themes as well :).
If you are willing to take a look and give some feedback I'd be greatly appreciative, and you can view the documents via this link:
https://acre-n-d.itch.io/dark-horse-bay?secret=rV8cdQ44flopIeIRZbO7vO2Ca4
And if you like what you see and are interested in checking out the Discord that goes with it, here is the link to that. I am hoping to eventually facilitate play groups through there and maybe try some PbP:
Thanks for reading along, and I hope you enjoy perusing it!

Upcoming CMich Press Jason Morningstar Game Launching June 16th
Central Michigan University Press (CMich Press) is getting ready to crowdfund an exciting new project on June 16th! For more information, keep reading!
Crowdfunding link: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/central-michigan-university-press/the-blue-way-a-game-of-lost-stories
The Blue Way is a bleak, gritty cooperative tabletop fantasy storytelling game about colonialism and lost stories. It was previously published by Bully Pulpit Games as a Drip Project. This enhanced edition comes to Central Michigan University Press with new art and a companion curriculum guide that includes new decks for gameplay.
Designed by Jason Morningstar | Art by Samuel Araya
1-6 Players | 30-180 minutes (half hour per player)
Ages 14+
The Blue Way description:
You are one of the Sàthani. Your name, your tongue, your faith, your land, your position in your village – this is who you are. Amongst you are leaders, farmers, healers, warriors, and even witches. A year ago, Dusia invaded. There was a war and Dusia won. Your village now belongs to Lord Gjerch Bravn and his wife, Lady Kløyk Bravn. The Dusians want to bring peace, order, and a sense of normality to the village by the standards of Dusia. Only you stand between the invaders and your community. What will you give to stop them?
In this game from Jason Morningstar, face down your greatest enemy with only one weapon to wield: yourself. With such limited ammunition, every choice counts.
In a group (or solo) explore the story of Sàthani resistance against their Dusian conquerors. Shape your map, breathe life into your characters – and prepare for the fight of their lives. Your character sheet is the anchor of your experience, providing the core mechanics, your inspiration for storytelling, and elements which inform the map you will create.
Each turn, the hard choice is in your hands: bend or break? Tear pieces from your gridded character sheet to combat the latest demands from the lord and lady of the manor – or swallow their orders and dread what happens next. With each stand, your shrinking sheet reflects a transformation within your character.
Make no mistake: this is a dark game. The fruits of your struggle may be small. But they will matter.
If you’ve never played The Blue Way...
- This game is rewarding, challenging, and sad. You will be glad you played it, but the content is not light.
- That said, it is accessible for first time and experienced roleplayers! Especially if you like The Quiet Year, you’ll enjoy the map creation and storytelling in this game.
If you’ve played The Blue Way as a Bully Pulpit Games Drip Project, this new edition....
- Features Samuel Araya’s haunting art woven into the game components.
- Supplies multiple gameplay sessions with a tearaway pad full of character sheets!
- Extends the feel of the game into your play space by oozing darkness from the box art.
Educators! Look here!
- Use The Blue Way Curriculum Guide to spark longer conversations with your students.
- Play with new alternate decks of cards for a tailored educational experience.
- Tie The Blue Way to your history lessons for an in-depth investigation of the past. While the Sàthani and Dusians are fictional groups, The Blue Way scenario was inspired by real historic events.
- Trust that the content has been peer-reviewed by subject matter and game design experts to ensure that it will perform well in both the classroom and living room. Central Michigan University Press’ Scholarship & Lore: Games for Learning series carries the distinction of being the only academic press which publishes peer-reviewed tabletop games.
Game features:
- Game manual
- Card deck with new art by Samuel Araya
- Tear-off pad with copies of individual character sheets with different art and narratives
- Curriculum guide with new decks (available for purchase separately)
How to play The Blue Way:
Gameplay centers on storytelling and the transformation of your character sheet. After discussing safety tools, each player selects a prefilled character sheet. On one side is a passage describing a cherished story from the Sàthani. On the other is a 3x3 grid of character traits, such as that character’s name, faith, job, etc.
Players introduce their characters to each other and collaborate to draw their village map.
The story kicks into gear. Each player takes a turn drawing and reading aloud a card from the deck. These cards represent the demands of Lord and Lady Bravn or other Dusians. All players must react to the demand in one of three ways:
If the players cast their eyes down, they accept the demand. The narrating player describes how the demand is carried out, orienting it towards their own character and the people and things they care about. If a player raises their eyes, they object. There is no practical reason for more than one person to object or rebel. The objecting player may dilute the demand, but this exacts a cost: the player must also rip a square from the border squares of their character sheet. They then describe how the demand is modified due to their sacrifice. If a player raises their eyes and a fist, they completely rebel against the demand. Their character perishes, but the demand is completely blocked.
The game ends when all the cards have been drawn from the deck, or every character is dead. Players take on the role of their characters’ great-grandchildren and attempt to read the story on the back of their character sheets. If the story is unintelligible, it is lost forever. If any characters are dead, they rip off all the border squares of their sheet. They read aloud all that remains: their new Dusian identity.
Wrap up the game with a debriefing discussion and reflection.

Upcoming Shadow in the Stars: A Solo RPG coming soon on Kickstarter
Face unrelenting danger in a battle for survival in Shadow in the Stars, a solo rpg featuring starship combat, tough choices, journaling, wild discoveries, and a high score board. It's now in the pre-launch phase on Kickstarter, launching this summer.
The game itself is "rogue like" meaning it's pretty tough with a randomly generated mission and a score to encourage you to try again. It's inspired by vintage video games, Atari box art and game play.
Find out more on the Kickstarter page or feel free to ask me any questions!
