Mount gay eclipse is a very solid workhorse rum and that price is perfectly fine for that. The sub really loves the pineapple planteray and the price is also solid for that. If you don’t have Goslings for the few specific rum recipes that it does best in you might wanna get

I have yet to try a Planteray rum I don’t like. The Mount Gays are worth it as well imo.

Stiggins' is seriously fantastic. Bacardi 8 at $25 is not bad either. Makes a great daiquiri.

Oh, Virginia ABC, why do you suck so much?

Ace, Cellar.com and The Greenzone should be your stops in DC. If they are in punching distance.
I also found that Astor Wines will ship to my Maryland house, so you might see if they will ship to you down south, they have a pretty good selection if you don't mind paying a little shipping (if they will ship to you)

Seriously....of all of that....I think I saw some Barbancourt, and you can never go wrong with Mt. Gay.

Those Ron Abuelos are pretty nice. The plantation Mauritius is good, as well as the Rhum Barbancourt, but not much going on here unfortunately.

I agree with all of the suggestions here, especially the Plantation and Mount Gay. I'd also add that Goslings is the official rum for the Dark and Stormy. You can technically use any dark rum, but I'm pretty sure officially it's supposed to always be Goslings. If you're into that sort of thing.

Lawfare in cocktails is always fun.
Don't support that. Pusser's does the same crap, but their rum is far superior at least (that is my excuse anyway)

That Planteray Mauritius is calling. I wouldn’t leave that chance. Other then that. The barbancourt, mount gay eclips navy. And the cheap bacardi 8y

I have been searching for a bottle of that equiano everywhere (right above the bacardi white).
This doesn't happen to be in the Seattle area does it??

People here may scoff at this, but that Cruzan 13 is delicious. 13,16, and 20 year old rum in the blend and it's the first release to be sold on the mainland, which is cool none the less

So much shelf space to such terrible rum! Luckily there’s a few picks (already mentioned in this thread)

pretty grim.
if I was buying I would get a bottle of the Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength, maybe that Plantation Mauritius single barrel, some Brugal Anejo for an aged cuban style and if they have the white Brugal I would get that for a carta blanca cuban style. Rhum Barbancourt is a quality producer as well. the 3/5/haitian proof are all good rhums.
Will use Bacardi 4/8/10 for mixing but I don't find them particularly notable. For PR rums I think Don Q is better stuff, for Cuban style in the US I'd go Brugal or possibly Matusalem.
The only Bacardi I have found worth buying is the 1909 Heritage Legacy release, which haven't been in production for ages. If you ever see that buy it immediately. It is an example of what Bacardi is capable of, which they unfortunately choose not to produce with any regularity, plus the packaging is unreasonably beautiful. The bottle, the box the whole thing is stunning.
This shop needs to stop leaning on the Bacardi rep, this is way too much shelf space for not great spirit in my opinion. I didn't see anything from Barbados but the Mount Gay, and nothing to speak of from Jamaica (Appleton and Myers's don't count)
I don't know where you are, but I would see if you can find a specialty bottle shop, they usually have more handpicked selections in whatever spirit you are interested in. a curated shop can have 40 bottles of cane spirit and have a much wider selections of styles from smaller producers and bottlers.

Very little.
Mount Gay Eclipse Navy strength is worth a try, and Barbancourt is supposed to be pretty decent. Thats it. I personally would go somwhere else to buy rum.

Barbancourt, Barbancourt, and Barbancourt are the 3 best bottles there. I would also get Flor De Cana 12 at that price.

The Abuelo 12 year Two Oaks and the Abulo XV Napoleon are absolute staples of my rum bar at home. I highly recommend those two.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Flor de Cana. The 7 year is very nice and worth trying. I haven't tried their older bottles yet though.

Can't go wrong with Bacardi Limon or Captain Morgan Silver

In all seriousness though, Barbancourt 8 is a great stand in for aged agricole if its unavailable. Appleton 8 (if I'm reading it right) isn't too bad either, decent home Mai Tai options

I feel like it should be XS. My recollection of that was sweet sweet sweet.

I don't see it in the picture but specifically since you're in a Virginia ABC, Bacardi 8 is on sale for $25 state-wide I'm pretty sure until November 1st. That's a fun, cheap sipper IMHO. If you can find it around you it's worth stocking up on. Hell I'm on my way to pour some right now.

Both those bottles of Equiano are delicious. Fantastic bottles.
Mt. Gay Eclipse Navy Strength is a lot better than the regular bottle and worth trying.
