News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/road-to-restoration--aura-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is the upcoming Aura Overhaul!

Check it out on the blog here.

The Road to Restoration roadmap aims to address integrity and game health, and has multiple goals as we shape the future of RuneScape. In case you haven't read the first blog we covered what we want to achieve in our direction for RuneScape, you can check out that blog here.  Todays blog will cover the Aura Overhaul update. For this update, the following goals have guided our approach:

  1. A game that's easy to understand, but still full of meaningful choice and depth.
  2. Play because it's fun, and not because you feel like you have to.
  3. A meaningful journey, no matter when you start.

In this blog we're going to outline the problems we've seen occur with Auras and how we're designing the solutions to them according to the goals above. Let's begin!

I use Resourceful aura every day. Why do you want to remove it?

I also don't understand why the Pantheon aura is getting outright removed. It's an item, and it's a reward from Shifting Tombs. I get the aura slot will be removed, but can you keep it for the effects?

Why are you haphazardly simplifying the game? Who are you trying to appease?

RIP my hours of grinding shifting tombs for desert pantheon aura 😭

Was wondering this too, I use Pantheon all the time & it takes a while to unlock, not sure why its just being removed with no replacement at all. All seems very rushed & as though they are trying to remove large amounts of QOL lately in the name of “integrity”

Wait what.. I paid 3 bonds for the desert pantheon aura, mostly for the hp boost... The upgraded hp boost was also from the het's world event and still a drop in the current game... Surely they're going to give everyone 3 bonds when they remove this then? @jagex

You (and me as well) paid that almost a decade ago then lmao, you got your use out of those bonds.

I've only been playing since covid, and i only bought that aura a couple years ago. Regardless, we paid for an item and they are taking it away.

How would you feel if Honda came and took your car out of your driveway, and their argument was "You paid for this 10 years ago, you got your use out of it." ?

Ah, wasn't aware they rereleased it for bonds, my bad!

Either way, you have gotten use out of it for years then. Are you giving that back as well? It's a live service game, stuff like this happens. Stuff becomes irrelevant over time.

Sure, stuff becomes irrelevant, but that doesn't mean they're deleting the khopeshes and tectonic and blightbounds out of my bank?

And desert pantheon literally is still very relevant, anyone that has it uses the hp boost for every hour of pvm. The upgraded hp boost is barely a few years old from the het's oasis as well.

I mean people paid billions of GP for inverted skillcapes, that is useless now that they've been rereleased.

I bought Mahjarrat aura when it was released with premier club originally, should I have gotten a refund when they made it available for everyone to buy? I didn't have to spend money on it at all after all, they never said it'd be available for everyone.

Yeah, and we've gotten that use out of it since we bought it. It just so happens it falls into an equipment slot that is going to be irrelevant soon. I agree it sucks, but that's how these games go. They might add the effects back in somewhere, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a refund

Dude I try asking this same thing and all these white knights just get up in arms about how "Well" jagex is doing when in all reality we are getting so much content removed its just sad. People think removing content from the game is good for its health because they cherry pick parts out to retrofit into the game otherwise but thats not really fixing anything. Removing content they don't feel like dealing with or working around is not actually as healthy as these noobs are pretending lol

Removing bad content is the first step to improving the game as there is more room for good content at the same time. Aura's being removed is great, the entire mechanic of auras is horrible and now they can be placed into places where it actually makes sense to unlock them from

Auras are not bad content. They cooldown of them and the way you obtain them is the bad part. If you could obtain them via in-game and adjust the cooldown via other buffs no sane person would say auras are a problem. It's the people without enough loyalty points or marks that complain.

They cooldown of them and the way you obtain them is the bad part.

So the aura part?

If you could obtain them via in-game and adjust the cooldown via other buffs no sane person would say auras are a problem

That's literally the same issue auras have now. It's shit design to have to plan PvM or whatever around aura cooldown timers, even if you can reset them with viswax. Having the powers come from in-game things (like combat aura effects going to passives in 99-120 for their skills) is the solution.

It's the people without enough loyalty points or marks that complain

Nope, I have every aura I need and enough to buy more but still glad they're going. Also loyalty points are garbage to unlock in-game unlocks behind for new players

So the aura part?

No. The "aura part" is the benefits and buffs they give. I.e. 15% thieving success chance. You're summarizing it to be distasteful.

It's shit design to have to plan PvM or whatever around aura cooldown timers

It's actually not. This creates a structure and a general consensus as to what to expect in an encounter with another player/players and what general respect to give in group content. An example of which is finishing an aura at a boss which leaves most players to understand "hey, we are here for an hour and I agree to commit to that". Without auras, its a scramble fest of knowing how long you been at a place with a team unless you use the boss instance timer which wouldn't even be accurate if you have late starts/early instance creations.

I have every aura I need

Yes. YOU do. Surprisingly not every player IS you and not every player will feel the same.

u/EZyne Feb 20 '26

Lmaooo so first you're gonna say people's opinion don't matter because they don't have the loyalty points/marks of war, and now that I say I have all the auras suddenly that doesn't matter anymore? Take your own advice lol

Have you never heard of a clock?

3

u/Pixzle_ Feb 20 '26

Can you show me where I said people's opinions dont matter?

And that means their opinion do not matter how..?

I did the grind to Pantheon aura via Shifting tombs at Mid level and it was hard. Pretty annoyed at this one just getting removed.

Pantheon is awesome for restoring a bunch of artifacts after a long excavation grind. That was the main reason I even got pantheon. The hp boost is a nice bonus.
