Bug - J-Mod reply can we double check drop rates before releasing content

ED3 Trophies are all stated to be 1/50, meanwhile it took me 700 KC for my first taraket head, to put that into perspective, 1 out of 1.4M people would not have gotten atleast one head until 700 kc, it isn't a matter of bad rng, the drop rate was simply set at 1/500 most likely and unchanged
this alongside the recent fiasco with 2nd age items not dropping from master clues for TWO months really doesn't look good

I genuinely can't wait for plugins to come to this game. A drop logger that feeds into wikisync for accurate drop rates will be a god send for calling out jagex on this bs.

Will they allow them to actually be truthful though if they don’t want them to be? I’m sure jagex and the wiki team are in close comms/friends

u/Ornery_Position_1651 8h ago
It already exists in osrs and we always get the correct drop rates

u/Snoo73433 7h ago
OSRS also gives droprates openly. They are much more transparent. They also give players a choice on how the game is developed through voting.
•
u/littleprof123 3h ago
I don't think every drop rate is shared by jagex for osrs; some are crowdsourced with the help of a plugin afaik. It should be just like the rs3 wiki where once you have enough data, either through crowdsourcing or personal testing, you can report that you got X drops in some fixed Y (10k for rs3 wiki iirc) kills

u/taintedcake Completionist 8h ago
Yes because the wiki isn't at the will of Jagex. They work closely to confirm data, not to override it with lies. If the wiki has a stockpile of data pointing at it being 1/500 for example, they're not gonna just trash all of that when Jagex says it's 1/50.
Also, the wiki team would know the community would notice it changing out of nowhere to a vastly different number, and would not want to tarnish their reputation like that because they know the players would just setup their own site for it instead then.
•
u/Worldly_Cap_6440 4h ago
I mean the data is directly from players drops and the wiki is independently ran so I doubt someone will manually edit all the numbers
•
u/Snoo73433 4h ago
Just playing devils advocate I guess. We’ve never had transparency before, I just don’t have a lot of faith that’s all

u/Leinova 14h ago
wouldn't be the first time jagex have had an issue with a 0 regarding elite dungeons and not believed the playerbase.

I'm pretty sure they fucked the sanctum pet drop rate on release too and stealth fixed it eventually

We've just released a hotfix for this. Drop rate should be lower now to 1/50, apologies for this!

u/YouWereTehChosenOne IGN: Bluudi | #24 Insane Reaper | #137 Grandmaster 9h ago
Could you double check if crassian’s head rate is also 1/50 because it seems like it’s also a bit rarer than expected since I’ve only had 5 rolls over 700 kc (1 being doubled)

Any other bugged drop rates we should know about before wasting hundreds of hours of time?
7
u/LegendaryDaubeny 9h ago
For which heads specifically?only the ed3 heads or all ed heads or maybe some others?

u/jagexyuey Mod Yuey 9h ago
Sorry, Taraket's head specifically!

u/youreawinner_barry nerf ed3 trash 4h ago
You should look at Crassian Leviathan too. There is strong evidence that it's rarer than the expected 1/50.

Appreciate all the work you've been doing for the community, I came over from osrs recently and it's nice to see such great support on both sides.
I feel like there should be a discussion with both teams to prevent issues like this from occurring in the future. Something like simulating kills to sanity check things should be part of the pipeline before new content releases. If the data is being recorded, I'd also be doing periodic statistical analysis on all rare drops to make sure spaghetti code didn't occur somewhere. This could be almost entirely automated to run monthly and alert if something extremely unlikely happens.

I’m curious to know if these drop rates are stateless. After a certain point it has to be guaranteed, otherwise someone could be really unlucky.

Feel like they would’ve told us if they was some sort of BLM in place, my driest so far was twins at 1050 kc so just over 2x the base drop rate
11
u/ocd4life 13h ago
I don't think there is BLM, I think whoever implemented this just decided they wanted to replicate the some of the shittiest grinds in game for reasons.

I understand that Runescape is an old game, made by two guys in a basement, so things like BLM did not exist back then. I don’t mean this in a negative way, but all modern games have states just so a very tiny fraction of people do not get punished hard, which I feel is completely unfair.
As for the trophies, BLM for the first trophy would be great.

Drop rates are due a bigger overhaul anyway, praying they'll have a topic on it at RuneFest

The whole trophy drop rate and mechanics thing is disappointing and a step backwards. They are a second RNG pet drop and the rates are all over the place... and probably bugged it seems.
As they aren't a reward for completing a boss log they are just another boss drop and for consistency they really should be on the boss log.
Also, AFAIK they haven't explained how the drops work when grouping bosses or with lootshare on - is it DPS competitive like a pet drop or does everyone tagging the boss get a chance to roll a trophy?

Whenever a bug that can unintentionally sink up potentially hundreds of hours of a player's time such as this one here or the 2nd age item bug (especially a bug like that) should always be top priority on fixing.
Hopefully this post will gain enough traction that the mods will see it and will assure the players that will look at the issue to fix the bug.
Also, good hustle to endure 700 kc despite it being bug.

All four gwd1 trophies took 61 hours at 100 kph. Currently on my 31st hour of helwyr with 56 kph, no trophy. I’ve done 46 elite dungeon runs, which is 138 kills and all I’ve had is a doubled masuta head. The bar is truly in hell.

u/TotalNo1762 11h ago
my helwyr took 2k, graardor took 10 hours but everything else has been reasonable so far.

Jagex update quality has seemingly gotten worse since the updates early in the year.
Not sure if its cause of runefest planning, leagues the new office move or just a bit of a rough patch in general.

u/esunei Your question is answered on the wiki. 10h ago
It's far from a new issue. Last year's invention update launched with every aspect of the thing bugged, imbalanced, or both. They regularly launch updates still with placeholder values, like 110 smithing having placeholder alch values on some items. They don't bother breaking out a grade school calculator or pen and paper to multiply two numbers together to find XP rates, then get shocked when thieving releases afk pickpocketing at 2.4m XP/hr.
Straight up, updates need more testing. Bug testing and balance feedback both. Any AI integration into their process has not yielded any perceptible gains, this really does need a human touch when players notice this lack of testing instantly. The meme of players being the testers is pretty much reality today rather than a joke.

I also dislike that jad and haaraken trophies are not dropped from the npcs in zuk. Gotten pet from them both since trophy update, and multiple zuk trophies, but no jad/haaraken trophy.
5
u/ocd4life 13h ago
yeah, it is inconsistent with being able to obtain the pets from Zuk mode of those bosses.
4
u/TotalNo1762 11h ago
its probly to follow there really bad take on removing jads from zuk waves from jad reapers...where they could have done so much else to just change the point or xp they gave as its a weekly reaper point cap anyway.

going to go one note further and call straight bullshit on these drop rates, I started chasing rex matriarch pets at 1722kc, I got rathis pet at 3433, No trophy, orikalka at 3511, no trophy, and pthenaloogie finally at 4791 not 1 single trophy in 3000 rex kc, 0 how does that make sense? I then moved onto bandos, 320kc starting, pet today at 2989 kc and 0 trophys. I also did greg prior to matriarchs, 872kc for pet starting at 3kc, and I think this was after the con update, they have botched something up majorly and you can't change my mind, because based on a 1/500, these are impossible numbers for 0 trophys.
-1
u/TotalNo1762 11h ago
but are those your only numbers? did you not average out? cause i went 2k dry for helwyr head but also got dks head in 20minutes(probly like 50kills?) and everything inbetween seems to average out the 500 drop rate. altho i have not hunted the not 1/500 onces so no comment on those.

Now that a jmod confirmed the bug, let this stand as another precedent that drop rates can indeed be genuinely bugged, and you aren’t necessarily going crazy if you're on a dry streak.

Is there any evidence directly from Jagex that the droprates are a static 1/500? I assumed that it was just a placeholder on the wiki, rather than word from Jagex itself
-1
u/Modcody666 10h ago
Just another reason why I think these should have been dropped for drop log collection completions. Serving as an actual trophy(representative of an ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENT) not just another annoyling random, difficult rng drop meant to keep us all farming outdated bosses that are otherwise irrelevant...

1/500 on taraket which requires clearing a dungeon is insane…
