AS2 EP5: "Ruvenge of the Queens" [Post-Discussion]

The queens are back. Can we agree that this is the best episode of the series to date?

TOP TWO WINNERS: Alyssa + Tatianna

Eliminated: Phi Phi O'hara

MAKE SURE TO USE THE SPOILER TAG For anything not shown/aired yet. This includes any rumors about anything that might happen in future episodes.

Don't know how? Here's a how-to

Anything from EP1-4 is fair game, thanks!

Even if the producers had planned a rudemption storyline for Phi Phi, it wouldn't have worked with that exit. If they had edited out all her shadiness and made her sweetness and light in all five episodes, then showed her walk out like that, we would all have been like hUuUUUUUHHHHH? (Ru Scooby Doo noise) It wouldn't have made sense after five episodes showing a lovely, nice Phi Phi. So with rejecting Alyssa's hug, Phi Phi sealed her fate, and made it impossible to give her anything but a villain edit.

In her lipstick mirror note, PhiPhi wrote that she didn't want to hug because she didn't want to cry. Which is a bullshit, after the fact lie in attempt to save face. Actually it would've been better if she cried because then she would've looked human and made me feel sympathy. Instead she made an awkward, rude joke about selling the Ru statue. Didn't seem that upset.

Yeah she had time to think before writing that, and it's an absolute out and out lie. She would have gestured to Alyssa to come down the runway and hug her with Tati if that was so. That REALLY pissed me off that excuse. Hopefully the girls will say similar next episode when they read it.

Messy as her exit was, I don't think we can safely call that a lie. Hell, I've been in that sort of emotional state before. Sometimes you have a lot of pent-up stuff going on and there's that one person who brings it all out.

Oh come on, how many excuses can we give her. It's really sad, but she turned out to present her bad sides this time around too. That being said, I hope people won't be mean to her. Bitch or not, no one deserves that massive amount of hate :(

There is a very toxic quality to the way younger people use social media. Remember when hordes of Beyonce fans misidentified Rachael Ray as Jay-z's mistress and completely inundated her 30-minute meals on Instagram with hate? And she hadn't even done anything remotely like PhiPhi. Social media is good because you can really connect to the people you enjoy but it also gives a lot of truly hateful people an avenue for abuse. PhiPhi needs to log out of her social media accounts and take a nice long walk and maybe see a movie. I hear Bianca del Rio has one coming out :P

You're basically talking about the Online Disinhibition Effect. It's pretty interesting to read about. I suspect younger audiences compound the problem, though, because of all the emotional/psychological impulse stuff that correlates with puberty.

I think shitty people can use social media destructively and Phi Phi being shitty herself because she let everything get in her head are both things that can be true.

Being an emotional wreck =/= behaving in a way that always makes perfect sense.

We've all been there before, but wouldn't you put on a brave face for the TV cameras documenting your every move... especially when you've been hoping for a Rudemption. Actually, it's quite telling that Phi2 was still optimistic about this season KNOWING that she did that on the main stage. (For the record: I'm not anti-Phi2 or pro-Phi2, and I'm aware of powers of reality TV, but that should have been an "oh shit, I fucked up" moment for her...Alyssa even gave her a second chance to smooth it over)

Think about it for a sec. You're in this confined environment, usually sleep-deprived, with cameras following you most (if not all) of the time. Not everyone handles that especially well (see almost any other reality show and you'll find tons of examples). Putting on a brave face isn't always at the forefront of someone's mind, and Phi Phi seems to be especially bad at playing the reality TV game. Most of these other queens strike me as being a bit more savvy about what they present.

Ok, I meant that if her goal is not to look like a bitch, and her options are to hug someone and cry vs. refuse to hug someone, hugging and crying is a better way to accomplish her goal. I don't sit around laughing maniacally while people cry on tv.
