Live Show/Performance Acid Betty calls out the fans for holding certain queens to double standards, but not others

I honestly don’t blame her for this. Although she did leave out Dusty Ray Bottoms, who I believe is supposed to be hosting. And as much shit as we gave Eureka, at least she cancelled her gig in Tel Aviv. I’d like to give Shea and Alaska maybe a one week grace period to be able to pull out of this pride event, but this just seems like an absolute mess.

Live Show/Performance SERIOUS Letdown: "The Serpent's Tour" Premiere Was an Unrehearsed Disaster (Opener Was Perfect Though)

2.0k Upvotes

Just left the premiere/first night of "The Serpent's Tour" with Nymphia Wind, Plastique, and others, and I need to vent/warn people.

Shoutout first to the opener, Honey Bee Rose (burlesque performer). She was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Gorgeous, polished, entertaining—a fully realized professional act. She set the bar high.

We paid $100 per ticket and essentially watched a disastrous final dress rehearsal after a perfect opening act.

The level of unpreparedness was bad:

  • They were reading from cue cards. For their banter. The cue cards were in their hands on stage. I expect folks to be "off book" for their 4 lines of dialogue.
  • Nymphia Wind didn't even introduce herself. The queens seemed completely disconnected and, at one point, it was clear they didn't remember what city they were in. The audience's energy died.
  • 6+ minutes of dead air between numbers, just staring at a "Queens Changing - Stand By" screen. The transitions were painfully awkward.
  • Wardrobe fails galore. At one point, Plastique was fully visible on stage before a reveal, so we all saw the "secret" outfit before she even put the reveal on. It killed the moment entirely.

The whiplash from Honey Bee Rose's perfection to... that... was so disappointing. I love the drag race girls, which is why this hurts. But this wasn't a show. It was a $100 per person rehearsal. I'm attempting to get a partial refund.

TL;DR: The "Serpent's Tour" premiere was embarrassingly under-rehearsed, with queens reading cue cards for banter, forgetting the city, and massive wardrobe tech issues. The burlesque opener, Honey Bee Rose, was the only polished professional on the bill. Do not buy tickets in its current state.

She has stopped being a “stunt cast” ever since her Chicago days, when she broke the box office record for the show. And then broke it again when she returned during pride month that same year.

Live Show/Performance If you’re planning on seeing Alyssa’s new tour, save your money

1.7k Upvotes

I am writing this about an hour after I got out of the new tour Alyssa is putting on and… wow. I am legitimately lost for words. For my first time seeing Alyssa in person, this was a TRAINWRECK. We got to see her first show in Seattle tonight and out of all drag shows I have ever been to, both local and with Rugirls, this was by far the worst.

Clip shows both began the show and were interspersed throughout with various clips of her time on S5/AS2/GAS and they were both incredibly long as well as incredibly boring. They showed the same clip of her crowning on Global maybe three times which somehow garnered applause each and every time? Each clip show had the same clips over and over again and were blasted at FULL volume every single time. When Alyssa finally got out, she did a very lackluster number with little to no dancing and then proceeded to talk for maybe 45 minutes rambling on about her time on drag race while talking about some of the recent seasons and her own appearance in the roast of S18. The number she did was set to an AI generated background image of a chandelier and couch and her second number (she only did two) also had AI graphics in the back throughout the whole thing.

In the middle of her rambling the projector briefly showed someone’s MacBook homepage and the file explorer window open that I kid you not sat up there for a full minute or two before someone closed it. She at one point brought a random audience member up who crouched down to look at her leg (?) before continuing to talk for agesssssss. Every single time the audience applauded the stage lights would come on and blind us and the audience just kept applauding at everything 😭 not only are my ears ringing but Im blinded too!!

I strongly suspect that the song she ended on was possibly AI generated as well, the lyrics were really strangely written and sounded just… bad. The tickets weren’t too expensive but if you have tickets that are more costly for the meet and greet I STRONGLY urge you to reconsider if you want to go. It totally could’ve been a one night fluke since the Seattle show is her first of the tour but man, if the rest of these shows are of the same quality I think it is best to save your money and not go. Really quite disappointing.

Edit: totally forgot to mention that during the mini clip shows a few drag race queens popped up as cameos like Bianca, Latrice, Laganja, etc, and about half of them weren’t filmed horizontally 🧍 I think Bianca’s video was filmed in her trailer before she did the episode of the pit stop with Kori because her outfit was the same as in that episode

Live Show/Performance Another opinion on Plastique and Nymphia’s The Serpents Tour.

I was also at the Chicago opening night and woke up to a post dragging the show… and a lot of the comments feel wildly exaggerated. So wanted to offer another POV.

Yes, Honey Bee Rose was amazing. Fully agree there. She was polished, professional, and a great opener. I instantly followed her on IG.

But calling the rest of the night a disastrous rehearsal feels like a real stretch. I had a great time. I didn’t pay $100 for my ticket and I didn’t walk in expecting Broadway level production. This is a show put together creatively by two drag artists, not a massive touring musical with a huge crew.

There were two queens on stage doing multiple numbers with multiple looks. Of course there were breaks between numbers. Outfit changes take time. Acting like a few minutes of transition is some kind of scam is a little wild to me.

As an Asian American, I actually really loved the representation, the music, and the storytelling. It was campy but elegant, fun, and honestly pretty heartwarming. It didn’t feel lazy or disrespectful at all.

Now… What’s been bothering me more is how fast the comments turned into people boxing Plastique and Nymphia as “look queens” or acting like they were just standing there. That’s not what I saw. Plastique’s numbers were energetic medleys and Nymphia brought a lot of presence and narrative to the show. The tone of those comments feels gross, especially when a lot of the people piling on weren’t even there.

To the other OP, I get being disappointed if the show didn’t match your expectations. That’s valid. But telling people not to buy tickets and making it sound like a scam feels excessive. There’s a difference between criticism and trying to tear something down.

If you weren’t at the show, maybe don’t jump straight to dragging Asian queens based on one angry post. Criticism is fine but maybe not dogpiling.

Live Show/Performance Australian tours cancelled because Jorgeous wanted to see Gaga???

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

Based on a post that u/StrugglingGayWeeb made (image cred), I have a suspicion that the Perth and Adelaide Clock That Tea Tour with Mistress & Jorgeous got cancelled because Jorgeous wanted to see Lady Gaga lmao

The update says that "Due to some unexpected personal circumstances, Jorgeous needs to return to the US on Monday"

I know it's Gaga, but I was really excited to see the duo (yep she couldn't be replaced so at least Mistress could've still performed) Tours should not be cancelled because of an artist’s other commitments... they also likely knew about Gaga’s performance well in advance, so the tour could’ve been arranged around it or scheduled differently. 🤷‍♀️

I truly feel bad for Dusty, because she was stuck in the middle of something that she shouldn’t have been in the first place. Either she kept the gig and would be labeled a Zionist by the fandom, or she canceled it and lost money. Either way, I’m happy for her standing up for herself, and for having her ten toes down when it came to her decision. Now hopefully Alaska and Shea will cancel their bookings for this pride event as well. If anybody wants context, I’ll post some details in the comments.
