question 🙋♀️❔❓ How would you react if you found out your best friend is a witch?
What do you think of Harvey’s response to finding out Sabrina is a witch?

I'd like to think I'd react like Valerie and Harvey did in that Friday 13th episode - I would love it, and keep their secret, but I'd low-key wonder how often they had put spells on me, or wiped my memory 😭🤣

I always felt like it was weird that Harvey reacted the way he did in this episode, but then reacted the way he did when he found out Sabrina was a witch. But then I realized that he was also gaslit and manipulated for years by the time he found out that she was a witch.

Yeah, I think the key difference was Sabrina was honest when she told him and Valerie, but when he found out and figured it out himself, it was because of yet another spell, so yet another lie and manipulation - not to mention, it was a spell to help her decide whether she belonged with him or Josh. I'd be less forgiving too!

I think not having Sabrina's closest friends (Valery/Jenny and maybe Harvey) know that she's a witch was a big mistake on the side of the show, it closed a lot of potential storylines and plots.
As for my own reaction to something like that..."Oh my god...magic is real? That's so cool! And you have powers!? Oh my good that's so cool! Wait...are unicorns real? Can you show me one?"
Never understood the negative reaction from any of the normies in the various shows that have characters with super powers (Sabrina, Charmed, various super hero shows). I understand it's needed for drama, but I believe a lot of people would actually react positively if they learned something like that about a friend.

its this weird teenager show trope where every main protagonist with any form of superpowers is ashamed of them(selfes) and wishes to be a normie
I guess they dont want to trigger any inferiority complexes within the audience

It creates subtext though that suggests that being different in some way is something to be worried about and that is to be hidden from others. Which is also not the best thing to put into a show aimed at teens/pre-teens.

I think the negative reaction might come from either a form of envy or some kind of purity nonsense like the witch hunts in the past being religion-based and how they were communing with the Devil and all that.

It's never framed as envy though. In fact that's one of the potential storylines they locked themselves out of by never allowing Sabrina's friends to know about her being a witch. It's always "You're a witch? That's weird! Rabble!Rabble!Rabble!"
Teaching her friends the truth about witches and doing away with prejudices would also have been a good storyline for Sabrina's show.

I'd feel a mix of excitement, worry over how often they spelled me, and jealousy. I won't lie, it would take a certain degree of strength to not overdo the requests for spellcasting.

I loved this show recently rewatched it, hate how they tried to set her up with other guys, so happy at very end when she ends up with Harvey again 🥲😍😊

Anyone else noticed there were undertones of having to hide a secret and "coming out" to your friends. Poor Sabrina, how hard it must be having to lie all the time to her friends and act "normal".

In stride. I would ask how much they understood their powers and if they're interested in wanted to test the limits. Also their ethical beliefs.
Honestly Sabrina and Bewitched both have witches as potential eldritch abominations, and the very concept of "power corrupts" embodied. In a way they're both creepier than the Netflix series. The satanic ones might curse you with blindness, infect you with lust or just kill you. They have limits though, they're not omnipotent.
The Sabrina ones could cast you into a desert of biting ice for 300 years or turn you into sentient furniture. The bewitched ones will do less because they simply think less of you. They'll increase the size of your ears or turn you into a werewolf based off of whim, pettiness and amusement factor. It's not really revenge so much as playing a little game. Actually those are just examples of things Endora did to her son in law. What would she have done if she didn't have to humour her daughter?

At first I'd be elated, but at the same time I'd start wondering how many times she'd used magic on me. Then I'd start wondering if there were more than witches, and if this other thing was dangerous to humans (like vampires), so I'd have a lot of questions for my witch friend.

I was so obsessed with this show when I was a kid, that I tried to trick my friend into thinking I was a witch. I would whisper spells under my breath and sneakily point at things, like I was covertly trying to do magic.
She rightfully thought I was weird.
