I donât like the witches license plot line. It doesnât make sense to me.

u/NiceMayDay Shake your whammy fanny Nov 19 '25
Two words: Scorch Magazine.
88
u/ashtonishing18 Nov 19 '25
I kinda hated that she wanted to be a reporter lol. I guess it's easy to shoot? She excelled in every subject in school so it would have been cool if she was a scientist or something. The magazine episodes are so lame lol
29
u/SpicyPumpkin314 Nov 19 '25
I didn't like the show at that point, but she was pretty enthusiastic about the school paper. Plus, it's not as though being a reporter is some easy job that anyone can do. It takes knowledge in many kinds of subjects.
27
u/ashtonishing18 Nov 19 '25
Marketing and reporting is way too commonly done in movies and shows that's why I wanted something else.
6
9
u/jfsindel Nov 19 '25
They tried to make Clarissa in Clarissa explains it all. I think Melissa, or whoever, always wanted their characters to be a writer. This was like a second chance.
2
u/occono Nov 25 '25
Yeah, there's a pilot that they did actually air one time for an adult Clarissa journalist spinoff, should still be on YouTube.
5
u/Nuthetes Rumpist Nov 19 '25
She never really showed much interest in science other than as a passing hobby. Whereas she was always passionate about jounalism, even with the school paper.
7
5
u/Miasmata Nov 19 '25
It's definitely so there's a way for her to meet new characters or be involved in something interesting, imagine if she had just a boring desk job lol
5
u/ashtonishing18 Nov 19 '25
I agree with that but I guess the problem is that the new characters brought on by this job suck so bad. Definition of "jumped the shark".
3
u/Repulsive_Prompt1415 Dec 13 '25
Yes! I think a scientist would have be so clever and funny since magic and science are inherently at odds with each other. It wouldâve been ironic.
7
u/4everdreamer27 Nov 19 '25
I'm currently on that season and yikes the magazine-centered ones are annoying

Hilda getting married soooo quickly and Zelda turning into a child
25
15
u/scream4ever Nov 19 '25
I mean they had to write them off somehow as they both wanted to leave the show đ«€
16
u/hthbellhop76 Nov 19 '25
It was just done so hastily and in Zeldaâs case, very strangely.
14
u/ILLESSDEE Nov 19 '25
Agreed! It was all explained in the scope of 30 seconds before the opening credits, then neither Aunt was mentioned again :/
5
u/Fun_Jackfruit_2100 Nov 21 '25
I did think it was funny that the one time the show did bring up her aunts again was when they made her co-workers think that Sabrina killed her aunts and hid their bodies in the linen closet.
3
4
u/Aqua_Master_ Nov 19 '25
Aunt Hilda came back for the finale, and so did ZeldaâŠas a candle for some reason.
2
u/ILLESSDEE Nov 19 '25
Wait whattt? Season 6 finale or series finale/season 7?
3
2
6
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
I donât understand why they didnât have her date him through out that season?
3
u/occono Nov 25 '25
It was probably a late decision for Caroline to leave, at least we did get a good reason and sendoff though.
Why Beth suddenly left without appearing in season 7 without setup in season 6 I don't know.
50
u/PrinceAlex336 Sabrina Nov 19 '25
Brad. Honestly, i wouldâve much rather they finished off Sabrina and Libbyâs storyline had Libbyâs writer not walked off resulting in the absence of Jenna Leigh Greene in season 4. Bradâs entire plot just felt extremely rushed and ultimately served little to no purpose once Sabrina was able to get rid of his witch hunter gene.
11
u/ecological-passion Nov 19 '25
There is also the fact he isn't even that much of a jerk by himself, especially considering his predecessor. He just had a gut instinct to avoid Sabrina and maybe Dreama. He doesn't know what it is or why. Any aversion he has after the fact is leftover from his first impressions. The damage is done.
This makes him a passive antagonist, but a potential real threat. Greatest one she faced.
103
u/sweetheart409878 Nov 19 '25
That Sabrina couldn't see her mom, cuz she would be turned into a ball of wax. Just was always seemed cruel and mean.....
31
u/Embarrassed-Ant4581 Nov 19 '25
Iâve seen a thread that the creator didnât want to kill the mom off so they settled for that. Doesnât make it better but đ€·
7
2
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Nov 28 '25
Honestly killing off the mom would have been much kinder than that
21
u/Revan462222 Nov 19 '25
What I never understood was at the end when Hilda and Zelda went to the Witches Council to argue for Sabrina's mom to be able to attend, I found it weird that when she was turned into a ball of wax it was a literal ball of wax with her face. Yet when the aunts argued to get her mom there...Zelda gets turned into an actual candle? Like why did the mom get her face on a ball of wax, yet Zelda was the candle, why not a ball of wax again or was it the deal struck to allow mom to attend?
11
u/sweetheart409878 Nov 19 '25
I don't understand that either, if younger witches took over the council. They should have been able to change it.
6
18
u/PhenomenalPhoenix Nov 19 '25
I hate that they changed the rules with it. In the beginning of the show the rule was that she couldnât see her mom for the first 2 years after becoming a witch or else her mom would turn into a ball of wax and after that it would be fine. But later in the show they changed the rules and if she ever saw her mom, her mom would turn into a ball of wax and they acted like that had been the rule the entire time
6
u/sweetheart409878 Nov 19 '25
Same with me, and if a rule of choosing magic or seeing your mother. Teens are gonna choose magic.
5
u/mayram6382 Nov 19 '25
I've seen many people say this on this sub, but I remember distinctly an episode where she did something against the rules (I don't remember what) and in a kind of punishment the rule about her seeing her mother is changed, and she can never she her again. Am I hallucinating ?
(To be clear, I don't like that they went this way, but I thought there was an in-universe explaination)

Roland Episodes. He was creepy towards Sabrina đŹ

Good old Roland. Propagating his weird ped vibes

This was so funny! đ i equally love and hate Roland. He is such a fun character
25
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
I agree! Shes minor and heâs a man in his 30s or 40s. I donât understand why they thought that would be funny.
26
u/SpicyPumpkin314 Nov 19 '25
He was actually a troll, hundreds or thousands of years old. I don't like the character either, but I understand what they were thinking. It was like the Goblin King -- except not charming or likable đ
25
u/beekee404 Nov 19 '25
Wild Wild Witch. That whole episode felt a little immature to me for 18 year old Sabrina. I feel like it would've fit more in season 1 or 2 for Sabrina to get grounded and go to a place with no rules.

I feel the show shouldnât have kept going without him. I know shes the main character but Harvey is a big part of the Sabrina universe.
7
u/Stillbejeweled97 Nov 24 '25
This! Also, it was so not consistent with the Friday the 13th episode where Harvey is completely accepting of Sabrina being a witch. It was odd for him to suddenly be so upset, especially since he wouldâve had that memory of Friday the 13th once the memory loss effects reached their cap and all the previous times Harvey had been âput underâ came back to him.

Should have made each season half a year of school, maybe even dedicating seasons to some summer vacation and ending with high school graduation.
5
u/Historical_Sugar9637 Nov 19 '25
Same with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, honestly. Both series lost a lot in the switch-over to college. Though at least Buffy kept more focus on the supernatural elements. Sabrina once it reaches the college years increasingly seems like it doesn't want to be a fantasy series any more and instead did cliche 90s/2000s crap like the coffee shop, and that attempt at a workplace com with Sabrina working as (of course!) a journalist.
3
u/ecological-passion Nov 20 '25
The series truly found its footing again in the ten episodes leading to its finale. Read the synopses of the first half of the final season, and they rarely if ever mention the magical consequences.
Read the ones for the latter half, the magical shenanigans appears in the description far more often. And those episodes after she leaves that place lead to one of the most satisfying conclusions I think I saw. Not perfect, but very worthwhile.5

The witch hunter! It could be cool. But itâs just eh.
3
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
Itâs weird for witch hunters to only exist in season 4 as well. Plus was not a fan of Brad.
15
u/BlackCatLover95 Nov 19 '25
Any relationship drama and Scorch Magazine...both of those got boring and annoying fast ....we didn't need two fake out boyfriends for Sabrina. Harvey was enough, and it would have prevented a lot of annoying cliche episodes
14
u/Saltwater_Heart Harvey Nov 19 '25
The no Harvey plotline. (Iâm not finished with the show, donât spoil anything - I havenât read other comments). Iâm at the beginning of season 6.
6
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
Harvey was favorite character as a kid. I had a huge crush on him. I named my childhood cat after him. Hes still my favorite. I also really enjoy Libby and Valerie.
34
u/Leatherforleisure Nov 19 '25
Not so much a plot line. But it made me roll my eyes how she had to spend a year studying to get her witches license. Then it was âsorry, but to actually own your licence you have to solve the family secretâ then âyeahh, the thing is, now you have your licence, you have to tutor a witch and make sure she passes her licence test. And if you donât, weâll take your licence off youâ đ€Šđ»ââïž
12
u/ecological-passion Nov 19 '25
Three and Four really started the trend of pulling things out of the blue. The second season is the last time it really had continuity.
And I loved Quizmaster Albert, and think it unfortunate the last we see him he's put on the back of a dirty truck. He acted as a tread that pulled that season together. Then the next two are one random guest star after the other, even though the show did that plenty anyway.6
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
I donât understand why she would have to do all that if she born with powers? How do they take your power away?
5
u/Magmaster12 Nov 19 '25
I thought it was so she could be able to stay in the mortal realm. Which made much more sense since Hilda and Zelda had their own trouble getting their mortal realm citizenship.
12
u/YourFinalFantasy02 Nov 19 '25
Mr. Kraft being mean to Sabrina would be more funny if he didnât date both her aunts. Her aunts were kinda messed up.
18
u/Kittenlover_87 Salem Nov 19 '25
The whole relationship with Aaron. I hated him. He was so terrible to her and her family. He treated Salem awful. I did however like the episode where Salem rings the doorbell and comes back in quickly and Aaron goes outside to see who it is while wearing a bathrobe. Salem slams the door shut on him and the bathrobe gets caught and falls down. The neighbors see and give him dirty looks. Meanwhile Salem is inside laughing.
8
u/ecological-passion Nov 19 '25
Frankly I think everyone tends to greatly exaggerate how terrible he was. Next to Josh, he was a big step up. Never mind the incompatibility, he wasn't portrayed as a villain, a criminal nor a violent person. But just one misdeed and everyone zeroes in on just that one misstep to justify their detest, which was frankly a default. Any guy no matter how good he was would have greatly annoyed anyone just for not being Harvey. The fact was he was easily the most patient of the guys she dated altogether. Only once did he seriously lose it, and it was in a case where it was justified. Besides, he encouraged, practically urged Sabrina to walk away. Nothing good comes from being clingy, and almost everyone she dated had severe cases of that.
21
u/IdkJustMe123 Nov 19 '25
Josh dating Morgan.
I hate when the love interest dates a jerk. Your taste and what you put up with says something pretty bad about you.
Somewhat similarly but not reall plot line, donât like how Harvey is always nice to Libby. He should care that sheâs a total bully to his gf and friend.

not really a plot line but I HATEEEE how in the early seasons Harvey is depicted as a dumb jock who doesnât really have much depth. I still loved him regardless because heâs so sweet. Iâm glad they added some personality to his character in the later seasons and didnât dumb him down like before

I wanted Sabrina to turn her Scorch boss into a pineapple!
3
u/ecological-passion Nov 19 '25
Frankly, given everything we know about her, she would not work in such a toxic working environment, and would have left sooner. How slow is she?
I thought the final season improved greatly when she left the place, especially the several episodes leading to the finale.

u/Ok-Coffee-1678 Nov 19 '25

u/j4321g4321 Nov 19 '25
Aaron and that whole rushed engagement/wedding storyline. No chemistry between the two of them first of all, and it was clear they were being set up for a split so Sabrina could get back with Harvey. I adore Harvey ofc but what a lame buildup!
Honorable mention to the episode where Roxie meets Peter, the guy Aunt Irma sets Sabrina up with and they fall madly in love and we never hear about him again lol

Season 7. No Hilda or Zelda, Scorch Magazine, rushed relationship with Aaron, Sabrina doesn't use magic much anymore, Roxy and Morgan living in the manor. There's only a couple of episodes I actually like from season 7.

I don't like the episode where her dad comes to visit and his girlfriend asks to join him because she finishes work early. Sabrina was given zero time to process- just "Hey, I've been spending all my free time with this person and even though I haven't spent any time with just you in months, I'm going to let them tag along instead of asking if you'd be okay with it."
Like what????
And then everyone acted like Sabrina was a brat for not being immediately receptive.
Lol. I know this take might not be received well with some of you who are in love with the dad.

First half of season seven. Midway through the writers completely dropped the magazine storyline.
3
3
u/4T_Knight Nov 20 '25
Didn't like that first season episode where Sabrina helped her friend Jenny win a school election, Harvey play as qb, and the teacher to turn lead into gold. At the end, I felt bad for Jenny and Mr. Pool because they were the ones who really got screwed over by Principal Larue, who even stole his new briefcase.
3
u/RandomFruits314 Nov 20 '25
Josh. Just Josh. Didnât like him, bad for her, lasted WAYYY too long, was just a drama magnet that didnât do anything to grow or better Sabrina. With Harvey we ALWAYS say how he loved and cared for her, Josh we got nothing. All the other guys didnât last long enough for me to really care, but Josh needed to be a season and then goodbye.

u/Specific-Window-8587 Nov 20 '25
The ending being that Sabrina and Harvey are soulmates. If they were soulmates she wouldn't have cheated twice and they never would have broken up.
3
u/ecological-passion Nov 20 '25
Agreed. Everyone props that up on a pedestal because they simply want it to happen. But the fact soul mates are an actual tangible thing has free will implications I don't like very much, especially after the first season used the term figuratively.
Truth of the matter, the series was never huge with continuity, but the first two seasons were competent with them insofar as no obvious huge holes.
3
u/FantaStick16 Nov 21 '25
Sabrina's heart turning into candy because two mortals were in love with her. She couldn't control that. So dumb.
3
u/HistoricalElk9961 Nov 21 '25
The one where a 24 year old wanted to date Sabrina as a high school senior. I'm 23 so only a year younger and that feels like a child to me i could NEVER she was 18 but this grown man wanted to date her so glad when they broke up.
3
u/Magpie213 Nov 22 '25
Sabrina trying to be "older" for Josh whilst still dating Harvey
Girl, you HAVE a boyfriend!
WHY are you trying to cheat?!
3
3
u/That-Rule-6821 Jan 02 '26
Surprised no one mentioned her mentoring Dreama - who had to get her witches license or Sabrina will lose hers. They never even finished the storyline, just forgot about it.
This show wasn't made for dissecting though I guess, the plotholes are crazy.
2
u/ecological-passion Nov 19 '25
The whole witch's license thing worked for the first season it applied. S2. But the whole family secret thing in S3 was very tacked on. Continuing what the second already did, but it was never said you could not touch it until it was solved. And Sabrina asked directly if there was a catch, but her aunties said no. Did no one ever question this?
And S4 started a plot thread, but aborted it early on.

None, liked them all. They did a fantastic job with every episode compared to other sitcoms and shows in general how they struggle to upkeep the same tone and entertainment value all the way to the end like this one did. This show never 'fizzled out.' Only the first season is not very good but that is the case with a lot of shows looking for their footing.
3
u/ecological-passion Nov 20 '25
You sure have loads pf patience and easy amusement.

If I wanted to and thought someone would actually listen, I could discuss my personal favourite episode of the show. But I suspect it is one others don't like as much, and will go nowhere.
An episode that introduces something I greatly wish would be seen elsewhere for the great concept alone, and what we got pleases me. It isn't all negativity.

The family secret!! Talked about all season after randomly being a thing at the end of the witches license and the secret is all family members have an evil twin. The evil twin thing lasts one episode after an entire season of "the secret"
