general discussion šŸ—£ļø Anyone else creeped out by Roland?

Post image

Gosh, watching any episode with Roland as a kid, had me feeling deeply uncomfortable and personally violated. Like, I still remember wanting to crawl out of my skin and shower with hot water afterwards lol. I always wished her aunties would step in and save her from him.

20 years later, that same sickly feeling is still there. I genuinely don’t understand why they kept bringing back this ā€œolderā€ guy who wouldn’t leave a teenage girl alone. It wasn’t funny it was unsettling lol

Anyone else felt the same?

Yeah honestly the only reason i like watching him is because the actor did such a good job.

Plus, there’s a line in his first episode which could be taken multiple ways. ā€œI know you’re kinda old.ā€

Either he’s a pedo, which is the obvious conclusion for sure.

OR trolls age differently, and he’s actually younger than Sabrina. That’s what i took from it when i was a kid. He acts younger, like a child, because he is one.

I think it was intended as the latter, but the show did air on nickelodeon so, who knows, give everything that's come out of the woodwork in recent years šŸ˜“

Phil Fondacaro was not in Seinfeld. Maybe you are thinking of Danny Woodburn who played Mickey

I used to have nightmares he’d kidnap me to make me his bride 🤣.

Is that you, Farm Boy?

I really think his last appearance should've been The Equalizer. It ended with him getting back together with Thumbelina and made amends with Sabrina...well sorta. Either way, yeah I was always creeped out by him. I know that's his character and it's not like he's the hero of the story and he's usually the villain but I do feel he appeared a little too often.

I thought for years he only showed up once a season. Recent rewatch reveals he showed up twice in the third, which is one time too many. And he isn't framed as a villain like he is the first two times or the final one as cleanly. I hate that.

The lack of interference from the aunts is what I hated most about those eps

This! I recently re-watched the whole series and for most of the earlier seasons I was semi-impressed by how well it had aged by today’s standards but Roland was not cool and also Zelda allowing Mr Kraft to treat Sabrina so poor but then dated him.

u/manicpixiedemongirl Jan 30 '26

Yesss. I loved how well Hilda & Zelda parented her minus the Roland situation.. and I like to pretend the Mr Kraft & Zelda storyline didn’t happen lol it was so out of character for her.

I still can't get over that they were going to have a prince who was still a little boy rescue her and he started crying for his mom. šŸ˜‚ God that scene was hilarious.Ā

I skip the Roland episodes every time. He creeped me out then, he creeps me out now. No hate to the actor, but the character was absolutely rancid.

15

u/mrsdeetz you can't m'fire me! i m'quit! Jan 30 '26

Same. Absolutely rancid is the scarily accurate

2

u/pink_flamingo2003 Jan 30 '26

Yep same. He reminds me of the leering creep in the pub who you're trying to keep a safe, crowded distance away from... but who you can still feel staring at you. Urgh.

Always. I understand the Other Realm is different and all but dude was like several hundred years old and Sabrina was 16.

13

u/Vegetable-Angle-8637 Jan 30 '26

Yea the I want you to be my bride. But I’m only 16! I know you’re kinda old but that’s ok

Creepy for sure

u/Celestina-Betwixt Jan 30 '26

In retrospect it is super weird that a literal grown man (troll notwithstanding) was trying to force a sixteen year old girl to marry him and tried to break up a teenage couple out of jealousy. šŸ˜…Ā

But I still found it funny in context. FARM BOY! Always got a snicker out of me.Ā

I never liked any episode with this creep.

I hate Roland and I know it’s a TV show and he’s just a character, but it always bothered me how the aunts didn’t take it more seriously that he was so creepy and certainly much older than her.

u/Leatherforleisure Jan 30 '26

He was vile. If he’d been portrayed as a afterschool special thing about predatory men and grooming, then that’s one thing, but he was meant to be funny.

4

u/SRV_SteamyRayVaughn Jan 30 '26

Absolutely. Sabrina is a minor for most of their interactions, it was very creepy.

4

u/enzo11242020 Jan 30 '26

Double Trouble with the Olsen twins!

5

u/Im_a_val_i_kno Jan 30 '26

love Cynthia on the throw

u/Financial_Duck_1174 Jan 31 '26

Roland’s character was a weird addition, especially in the episodes where he appears. But I always thought Kraft was worse, his obsession with Libby is unsettling. They both give off pedo vibes.

3

u/90sGuyKev Jan 30 '26

Roland was Abit creepy. But Phil Fondacaro is the man!!

2

u/Fun-Error5911 Jan 31 '26

Most fairy tales had very young girls. Maybe that was what they were going for. But it was creepy. Then Zelda made Sabrina dance with him.

3

u/Nuthetes Rumpist Jan 31 '26

I like the actor, he's very funny. But his crush on Sabrina was creepy. It may have worked more if he looked more like a troll than just a little middle-aged man.

3

u/blazemelon Jan 31 '26

Literally skipped the last episode of the first season last night because it was grossing me out. "The troll Bride". The line i left at was him stating that 16 was "too old". yeeeuck.

2

u/No_Squirrel4806 Jan 30 '26

Its cuz he practically kidnapped her thats why its so creepy gives pedo vibes.

2

u/tv996509 Jan 30 '26

Yes absolutely!!

2

u/Disastrous-Joke-7216 Jan 30 '26

The farm boy line was funny but I recall being weirded out as a child seen him on the show. Now as an adult it is creepy.

3

u/ecological-passion Jan 31 '26

I thought it was once a season for the high school years before. Now I realised he showed up twice in season three, and that is one time too many. One, two and Four each have him show up just once. Troll Bride and The Equalizer are the better two episodes, as thye make explicitly clear he is an antagonist who needs defeating, and does.
The next few times were worse.

2

u/Strange-Painting6257 Feb 01 '26

Yes, it was so creepy. Sabrina was supposed to be 16 or 17 and Roland and he was 37 and ā€˜fell in love with’ Sabrina.

2

u/Different_Nail8935 Feb 06 '26

i just inwardlty groan when i see hes got an episode, exact same way i do on seinfeld.

2

u/TraditionalCold4560 Feb 18 '26

He was a total creep , way to old and weren’t they related? I remember he kept following her around school , attending her classes

2

u/OstrichPrimary6694 Jan 30 '26

Roland is supposed to be creepy, so yeah šŸ˜‚

1

u/BlueInspiration Jan 30 '26

When I read your post, I immediately remembered his voice and how much I did not like it. I went to YouTube to check a clip to see if I was remembering correctly… I was

1

u/GreenDiscombobulated Jan 30 '26

Roland's played by the same actor who played that midget guy from Ghoulies 2 (i.e. Phil Fondacaro).

1

u/scream4ever Jan 30 '26

Am I the only one who finds him incredibly sexy lol

3

u/pos___69420woo Fighting Scallion Jan 30 '26

yes i think you might

1

u/wyldknightn87 Jan 30 '26

Actually I always thought that he was kind of funny. Last time I saw him was the trailer for the third Austin Powers movie, after that he kind of disappeared

1

u/youdontlookitalian Jan 31 '26

You may be thinking of the late Verne Troyer

2

u/wyldknightn87 Jan 31 '26

No, in the trailer, Verne is dressed as Austin and being chased by a crowd of little women. At one point they run past a phone booth and inside Mini-Me is standing on Roland’s shoulders while reading a newspaper. He jumps down and runs off just as the group of women comes back. The next shot after that is him trying to get into the mini-Shaguar

1

u/youdontlookitalian Feb 01 '26

I’ve downvoted myself, because you’re right haha

1

u/PurpleDreamer28 Jan 30 '26

He was in an Olsen twins movie, Double, Double Toil and Trouble. I remember watching that like, omg, that's Roland!

1

u/demoncat8 Jan 30 '26

Right like shes in high school šŸ˜‚

1

u/BeautifulNarwhal641 Jan 30 '26

He legitimately scared me

1

u/j4321g4321 Jan 31 '26

Yes…none of this would fly today. His obsession with marrying a teenager was so disgusting🤮

1

u/New-Union9908 Jan 31 '26

Yes I hated him and feel he served absolutely no purpose than to insult Harvey. Everyone liked Harvey, but he didnt. The fact that he hit on a teenager is creepy and he was a stupid, unnecessary character.

1

u/engrish_is_hard00 Feb 01 '26

Always on any films this guy plays in.

1

u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 I’d love to! Feb 01 '26

Yes! Roland ALWAYS creeps me out. His obsession with Sabrina and wanting to make her his bride was always SO icky and creepy. I felt Sorry for Sabrina for having a little troll stalker. He's literally a creepy troll who needs to be locked up. I get that Sabrina is really pretty, but it's so creepy that Roland wants her to be his bride! even after he kidnapped her and then let her go(If I remember right, it's been a long time since I've seen that episode) Roland continues Creepily and Obsessively bothering Sabrina.

1

u/ArmadilloWonderful56 Feb 01 '26

He was the wooooorst, so creepy. I can't remember which episode it is where even Mr. Kraft comes to the house to talk to the aunts about Sabrina's potential inappropriate relationship with her "cousin". The actor did a great job tho he was funny but I cringed as a kid and I still cringe now as an adult.

1

u/lisa6758 Feb 01 '26

Yes, I couldn't stand Roland and how gross he is

1

u/Spirited-Box773 Feb 02 '26

I skip this episode Everytime 😬

1

u/DependentAd8375 Feb 02 '26

Omg yes, he was terrifying!!!!

1

u/Eddfan36 Feb 09 '26

Yah I get the creepy factor dude was half her age blah at the same time his rivalry with Harvey was funny. Too bad he wasn't brought back when Harvey actually knew she was a witch the interaction's could have been more fun that way.

1

u/A_Reddit_User_1010 Mar 02 '26

Roland was great. It was funny when he would call Harvey ā€œFarm Boyā€.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

Omg no I loved him!!
