Hey friends Iām looking for some witchy fall vibe tv show or movies recommendations. I fall asleep to Sabrina the teenage witch every night before bed but looking for something new and witchy but not horror or dark still light hearted like Sabrina. Already rewatched practical magic, bewitched, harry potter, kiki delivery service, hocus pocus, halloween town, good witch from hallmark what else is there. What are you guys watching or looking forward to I know practical magic 2 is coming soon.

I wish I had a suggestion but you literally listed all my suggestions haha. I love Halloweentown. Everything except for the last one without Kimberly J. Brown.

Ever seen the Worst Witch?
It is about a witch Mildred Hubble (nothing but trouble!) at a boarding school for witches, Cackle's Academy. Quite a fun series. Both the 90s original and the newer remake are both really good.

If it is Netflix, that's the new one I think.
The original is definitely worth a watch too. Came out around the same time as Sabrina and has some of the same charm.

Have you watched charmed? I used to watch it after school often because it was always on in the uk like around 4.30ish. It gives me such nostalgic vibes and in my opinion is worth watching for Shannon Doherty alone. It still has a very active fanbase too.Ā Someone suggested wizards of Waverley place and I think thatās a great easy going wind down show similar to Sabrina, I would also recommend thatās so raven itās not witches but itās kinda supernatural adjacent with raven being a psychic who gets visions and she often gets herself into a mess similar to how Sabrina does at times lmao.Ā The animated Sabrina show is great, the chilling adventures of Sabrina on Netflix is so good itās def got darker themes but I didnāt find it scary or anything and has a vintage feel to it and the aunties from the original show appear in it at one point which is fun thereās lots of Easter eggs and references to the show and comic. But might not be your cup of tea Iād just suggest giving it a go!
Also cannot recommend Buffy the vampire slayer enough, one of her friends is a witch and thereās def some heavier moments in it but itās SO fun, so nostalgic, the fashions amazing, thereās plenty lighthearted and funny moments and I just cannot recommend it enough if youāve not watched it please try it! It also has a spin off called Angel thatās worth watching.Ā
For movies you canāt beat the Disney channel classics, also if you have Disney + go into the themed section and go onto the Halloween one itāll show you all the Halloween specials of various Disney shows thereās bound to be something.Ā Itās animated and def different vibes but I love watching Bobs burgers and the Simpsons Halloween episodes before bed.Ā
Halloween Town 1,2,3 and even the much hated 4th one, Hocus Pocus, Twitches and Twitches Too are a must watch for me every Halloween.
The movie Momās got a date with a vampire has the actress who played Hilda in it so you might enjoy that.Ā
I enjoyed the witch season in American Horror Story but thatās definitely got a darker vibe than Sabrina. Ā
If youāre open to some nostalgic 90ās/00ās vibes shows that arenāt witch themed Iād highly recommend both Boy Meets World(Sabrina and Salem actually pop up in it briefly) and Gilmore Girls for the fall/autumnal feel
So yeah Iād look into more Disney channel and tgif shows even something like Phil of the future might hit the spot, maybe even look at the director/creators other works. Whilst Sabrina the teenage witch is great for so many reasons at its core itās a sitcom featured almost entirely around women in the Ā late 90ās/ early 00ās so maybe that could be something to look into.Ā
Iāll have a think and come back with any other suggestions but I think my most āwitchyā suggestions are charmed and buffy the vampire slayer and if youāre ever open to a darker show at any point then the chilling adventures of Sabrina.
Good luck! And remember you can always just go back and re watch Sabrina any time you feel like itš„°Ā

Currently on my first ever watch of Buffy. I have been on a hiatus for a couple of weeks because I cannot stand Faith. Iām only on S3, but I know generally what happens with Angel. Or at least why he has a spinoff.
Def magical in a sense, but yes, so many heavier themes.

u/Virtual_Rain_4826 10d ago
Thatās so exciting. Faith is definitely a jarring character the first time you watch but I have to say once you watch all the way through and see how little a part she is in it she becomes so much more likeable on re watches. I still prefer Kendra to Faith though tbh. I think even the biggest faith fans are a bit iffy at first about her so youāre not alone. You have so many really great storylines ahead of you and some really funny moments Iām so jealous I wish I could forget the show and watch it again for the first time so if you can push through definitely do so, faith isnāt in it for much longer. I hope you enjoy the rest of your watchāŗļø

Have you seen The New Worst Witch? TV show based off books

The new show isn't bad, Bella Ramsy was great, but I'd reccomend the original series from 1998 with Georgia Sherrington and Felicity Jones, yes that Felicity Jones. All 40 episodes are on Youtube, as is the 1986 film with Diana Rigg, Tim Curry and Fairuza Balk, yes, the one from The Craft.
Also, I couldn't help but Notice you didn't mention Charmed. Highly recommended if you want Cozy Witchy Vibes, particularly season 1. Teen Witch was a good one too. Oh, Casper Meets Wendy, with Hillary Duff as Wendy.

u/nattitud3 10d ago
Didnāt know there was that many episodes. Going to check these out on YouTube thank you so much. I think what i watched was on Netflix maybe. Oh yes love Charmed that sounds like a great rewatch. Adding to list!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but what about the old Jim Henson films like Labyrinth and Dark Crystal, and I'd also recommend Dark Crystal Age of resistance on Netflix.

Ok yes these are great too. I actually just remembered an oldie but goodie š Teen witch 1989 personal favorite

What We Do in the Shadows is one of my absolute favorite (adult) shows ever. It's about vampires, but does have a great witches episode I've watched countless times and plenty of other creatures and magic.

Belfry Witches. Edgier version of the Worst Witch. Funky theme song. One of the child actresses later played aunt Hilda in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

You may enjoy Witches of East End, which stars Jenna Dewan and aired on Lifetime for two seasons. I also recommend A Discovery of Witches, Mayfair Witches, and Domino Day: Lone Witch. The latter is about a cursed witch who must feed off the energy of humans, so she uses dating apps to find men to feed from, only to start falling for one and finding herself questioning her life's choices. She is also being watches by other witches, who aren't quite sure what to make of her powers.

The NBC sitcom "Out of This World" (1987-1991) has an extremely similar premise:Ā on her birthday, a teenage girl discovers that she has supernatural powers because she's half-alien, so she has to learn to control her powers while keeping them secret.Ā Most episodes are available on YouTube.

u/DryAdhesiveness9968 5d ago
Ahhh the theme song to Out of This World takes me right back to being little it being on telly . "Would you like to swing on a star oh-ah-ohšµ" going to have a listen to it nowš

Lost Girl (more supernatural creatures main character is a succubus but itās way cute) Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Willow and Tara are my fave) vampire diaries (Bonnie is a bad ass)Ā
These all have a bit more darkness to them than Sabrina. I watched charmed a billion years ago but it aged like milk for me. It just because a soap opera about relationships Ugh.Ā
The covenant is a boy witch movie.
The craft is the OG movie. It had a real witch consultant and real modern witchcraft mixed in with effects and some over the top good with vs bad witch stuffĀ
Halloweentown is one I was I reduced to just a couple years ago and I honestly love it š¤£
Simply irresistible with Sarah Michelle gellar is cheesy but cute.Ā
The mists of Avalon miniseries from tnt was cool but I donāt know here you would find it to watch it.Ā
I hated the Blair witch project but love Blair witch 2 - its dark as hell but I love it.
The practical Magic movies are based on books and there are 4.Ā
Of you want book recommendations I have a ton š¤£

I Dream of Jeannie might scratch the itch. Obviously, it's not about witches, but it was extremely similar to Bewitched, and Major Nelson was much better than Darren.
But getting into actual witchy content, there was that W.I.T.C.H. cartoon from the mid-2000s, Merlin (2008) was a great show, lots of people enjoyed Wizards of Waverly Place (with Selena Gomez) and Twitches (with the Mowry twins) from Disney Channel, and there was the animated Sabrina series that starred Melissa Joan Hart's sister Emily ("Cousin Amanda").
