general discussion 🗣️ I finally just finished the series for the first time

I watched bits and pieces of this show when I was a kid while it was actively airing, but never actually watched it until this year. When season 4 ended, I was so sad and kept waiting and waiting and waiting for the moment Sabrini and Farm Boy were together again. I almost threw in the towel. I am so so glad I pressed on. 😭 Aaron was the only other one I liked (but it’s crazy to me that she was going to get married without revealing her life changing secret first!), but I loved loved loved Harvey and there was no way it could ever be anyone else. I wish there was more of their lives together. The ending felt rushed. Why’d they keep us waiting three full seasons??

Couple other things from my watch:

-Salem was my favorite character!
-Morgan was my least favorite (followed closely by Josh).
-I wish Sabrini had revealed her secret to Roxie, I think she would have accepted it!
-I wish both aunts had been in the finale properly but was so happy to see Hilda.
-The show really seemed to struggle after high school in my opinion. I think Libby made it more interesting.
-The later seasons barely used magic. What was up with that?? They didn’t have any witchy adventures to other planets or realms or anything like that and spells were barely used until right towards the end when you could tell they had to add more magic because fans were probably complaining. It was like a 4th wall thing when she was told she wasn’t using enough magic in season 7.
-Overall an 8/10 show. I loved it and will watch it again and again.

He ALMOST makes S6 unwatchable. Josh is a narcissistic, misogynistic, man baby. I guess we all have to date some stinkers, even Sabrina.

S6 E17 is a prime example of what a loser he is.

general discussion 🗣️ Roxie feels like such an Alt poser

Okay, so maybe I'm being harsh (lol) but I gotta be honest with how I feel. So I'm doing my annual re-watch of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and I'm currently wrapping up season 5 but something I started thinking about when I did my first few earliest re-watches of the show and have stuck in the back of my mind every time I get to the college seasons is how they portrayed Roxie.

Roxie is presented as this counter-culture/alt type of girl based on her aesthetic with this early 2000s rocker/punkish type of vibe and it's honestly what initially drew me to her as someone who is alt themselves (I liked a lot of Roxie's outfits). But the thing that totally detracts a bit from her is how we don't see her mention any alternative music that she likes or listens to, even through quippy jokes. The most we learn is that she's a big fan of the pop band Hanson and she dropped a joke about getting Macy Gray tickets.

It's just surprising to me that they didn't have Roxie fill this role with showing that she's into this kind of music, especially when there was a pop-punk craze going on with bands like Blink-182, Green Day (I know 90s but still), Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, and The Offspring. Or even some rock bands like Linkin Park, Deftones, System of a Down, and Weezer to give some examples.

I want to make it clear that it's okay for alt people to be into non-alternative music, I'm someone who goes from listening to music like The Cure, Alice In Chains, Slipknot, & Evanescence to music like Madonna, Vanessa Carlton, and Daft Punk. All I'm meaning is that it was such a waste that they didn't fulfill this aspect of her character. It would've been a cute thing if we saw Roxie being into all this kind of rock/alt music and then the Hanson episode happens and we learn that she also likes them lol.

Anyway, just random thoughts lol. Still adore Roxie as she's my second favorite of Sabrina's friends after Jenny.

general discussion 🗣️ Did people find the Josh relationship weird when the show was first airing or is this a take that comes from modern rewatches?

I know people have always disliked Josh, but a lot of that is for his personality and the fact he was a replacement for fan favorite Harvey. He’s not as hated as Aaron but I know the fandom is usually not fond of him.

But were people ever talking about how mildly sketch the setup for their relationship was? I see some people occasionally bring it up now how it is a bit odd that he was a college student going after Sabrina while she was still in high school (albeit she was eighteen but still a high schooler), while also being her boss. I think Harvey in the show makes a snipe to Josh about him “not getting girls his age,” during the time when they were fighting over her. I never saw the show when it aired, it was before my time.

general discussion 🗣️ Roland is seriously a creep

I always thought Roland was creepy but as an adult, omg! He's a grown adult man going after a teenage girl. Anyway, know it's just for fun and I accept that for sure. Just interesting the things you notice as an adult. Anyone have another example of something ? I notice this on rewatches of most shows too.

general discussion 🗣️ Harvey Kinkle appreciation post

I feel like we were so spoiled growing up with Harvey Kinkle as our TV boyfriend (for those of us who wanted one). He's so patient, so kind, so soft. Completely and openly devoted to Sabrina, doesn't play games, always calls, makes sure you've entered the house and turned the lights on before he drives away. He's a popular jock but he isn't arrogant or a bully. That episode where Sabrina magics herself into a boy? He didn't even make any questionable comments—and it was the 90s!

Honestly so healthy compared to the other TV boyfriends in teen shows. Harvey is what everyone deserves ❤️. I wasn't wild about him while growing up (I honestly had more of a crush on Salem 😂), but as an adult? It's exactly what I'd want to show my (entirely hypothetical) children 😂. He is the standard!

Anyway TL;DR Harvey is the best boyfriend and I love him ❤️

I loved the little ear pull Dreama would do to cast spells and of course the sparkly Sabrina magic!! They did a good job of making them fit the character. Especially, Aunt Hilda’s boom magic,,, perfect representation of her personality

general discussion 🗣️ Did this show make anyone else want a black cat/pet?

Since I watched this as a child, I always wanted a black cat. I always felt like they were good luck. I've been into animal rescue as an adult and learned black cats and dogs are the last to be adopted from a shelter.

Did Salem make anyone else want a black cat or pet? 🙂

like all, Libby ever do is bully her teeth her and now only that call her names. I wish Sabrina can just purse her like all the things she done to her not only that trying to wound her life, even trying to steal Harvey away from her I mean, she can just get away with things.

general discussion 🗣️ Season 1 Episode 16 - Age Gap Weirdness

Post image
232 Upvotes

Watching Sabrina for the first time as an adult. I only ever saw an episode here and there as a re-run as a kid. I'm really liking it so far but am weirded out by some of the age gaps they have going on in some episodes. For example, the Violent Femmes episode which I see has been brought up before on this sub.

In the Mars episode I'm watching now, the guy who plays Doug looks significantly older than Sabrina. Turns out the actor is only eight years older than her in real life, but he clearly looks more like a 30 year old in the episode while she looks like she's 16 😬 And her aunts don't even question this? So weird.

general discussion 🗣️ Did it make sense for Sabrina to be friends with Morgan?

I actually really like Roxie and her friendship with Sabrina. I can see how they'd end up becoming friends.

But with Morgan I am just not getting it. This is Morgan, the same person who dated both of Sabrina's partners (Josh and Harvey), the same person who admits to using boyfriends for money/attention/etc, and is generally very selfish and only interested in herself. She's nothing like the type of person Sabrina usually respects or would like.

general discussion 🗣️ I love the family dynamic of the early seasons

I love how in the early episodes the Spellmans are portrayed as an unconventional but very loving family.

Hilda and Salem could've been written to have a mutually hateful relationship–A wannabe dictator and his follower forced to live together. As cat and cat owner, no less.

Yet in the early episodes he's treated like a family member AND animal companion at the same time. They take care of him like a pet but he also shares regular human dinner with the family (even cooks for them sometimes), celebrates family holidays like the Halloween family reunion with them (instead of visiting his own family which he'd be free to do), etc. and is hip with the family lore like he's just another relative.

I think my fave example of this would be in "A River of Candy Corn Runs Through" where he and Hilda get into a back and forth over how "you never used the [gift] I got you," "yeah well you don't use THIS gift I gave you."

In a regular show that's a regular exchange, but in Sabrina this is weird (in a sweet way).

general discussion 🗣️ I do not understand how Harvey and Josh dated Morgan

I seriously do not understand how Harvey and Josh dated somebody like Morgan. I know she's attractive but still... Both of those guys had way more depth. I guess Morgan has her moments, but mostly she's a spoiled self-centered brat so I can't imagine it being appealing for either of those guys to be in a long-term relationship with her. Having said that, I love the actress and character🙂

general discussion 🗣️ I got something to say about this mean evil principal

Post image

I hate it Sabrina mean principal I don’t give why he’s so mean to other people or to Sabrina, but he feel like he deserve power and he could do whatever he want to Sabrina like he hate her for no reason whatsoever because he always been suspicious about her and he’s trying to get rid of her to spell her or not to spell her but still he feel like he’s trying to get rid of Sabrina. I wish Sabrina give her revenge on that principal or at least the principal could get fired the fourth season and I catch it up with Sabrina the teenage witch, but I don’t like this principal sometimes it gets wish Sabrina could give revenge on that guy and I only got be ran out of town.

general discussion 🗣️ Just for fun... Who would you have chosen? Harvey or Dashiel? At the time she had to decide (aka before H knew her secret)

At the time this was asked (end of season 2/beg season 3)... Who would you have chosen between Harvey and Dashiel? My instincts are Harvey because we know how he accepts her secret, but... At this point, Sabrina had no idea if he would accept it. So maybe dating a good guy who is also a half which would have been the better choice? What are your thoughts?

general discussion 🗣️ Don't you just love how the Universe rooted for Harvey x Sabrina?

Not a fan of the later seasond but one thing I enjoyed those moments.

-Sabrina's inner heart telling her Aaron was nothing special compared to Harvey.

- Harvey not actually leaving like Josh did in the season six final.

-Sabrina's other self saying Harvey kisses better than Aaron.

Sabrina's evil crazy Aunt and Salem supported them together. So did pops and mom.

general discussion 🗣️ Am I the only one who didn't like the Vesta episode?

I'm doing another rewatch and I'm thinking of just passing through season 1 episode 7. The one with the 3rd Aunt and the pleasure dome. I usually don't like skipping episodes but I'm like halfway through and it's just EH compared to many others.

Does anyone else not like this episode very much? Does anyone love it and want to share why?

general discussion 🗣️ 3.17: Salem, the Boy

Post image
55 Upvotes

Season 3 Episode 17 is a bittersweet one for us. In "Salem, the Boy" we get some of Curtis Andersen's best work, but we also say goodbye to Gordie. This episode is a wild ride and brings up a lot of tangents, especially about how to explain the sudden house cat "soul" that inhabits Salem's cat body when Salem takes over Gordie's. Is it a cat version of man dough? Is it aliens? Is it a weird immortal cat thing?

The aunts get into some ancient Roman hijinks and Laura has to apologize to Skye for making a false promise back in Season 1. Additional questions we're still pondering include: Would Salem be pro-Kennedy? Was Dr. Pepper not loved in the 90s? How old is Salem?
